2006 Cancelled Shows: CBS Cancels a Few Favorites
CBS is playing it particularly safe this fall. The Tiffany network is introducing only four new shows, therefore sticking with most of its current schedule and canceling few programs. The few casualties (mostly sitcoms) of the 2005-06 season are:
Courting Alex - The quirky show starring Jenna Elfman and Dabney Coleman started as a mid-season replacement show but never quite caught on. The eighth of the 12 episodes aired in March and the show has been off the schedule since.
Love Monkey - The Tom Cavanagh sitcom was pulled from the CBS schedule after only three episode airings but VH1 started airing the remaining five episodes in April 2006. Viacom owns both VH1 and CBS and no further episodes have been ordered.
Out of Practice - This doctor-family sitcom starred Henry Winkler and Stockard Channing on CBS’ big night of comedy. Unfortunately, it didn’t perform as well as How I Met Your Mother or the more recent The New Adventures of Old Christine. To date, 14 of Practice’s 20 episodes have aired and has been off the air since January 2006.
Still Standing - After four seasons and 88 episodes, CBS has pulled the plug on this family sitcom. The last episode aired on March 8, 2006. There was no official closing episode produced but reruns will begin airing on Lifetime in the fall.
Threshold - CBS’ answer to science-fiction programming (ABC had Invasion, NBC had Surface…) didn’t catch on and was pulled from the schedule after nine of its 13 episodes had aired. You can however find all of the episodes here.
Yes, Dear - This family sitcom aired for six seasons and 122 episodes. Though you can find reruns in syndication, it will not return to CBS in the fall. It’s unknown if it was intended to be a series finale but the final scene of the sixth season featured a sentimental scene between Greg and Jimmy.

Whats wrong with you CBS for cancelling STILL STANDING we loved it at our house!!!!!!
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:10 am
Sitcoms like King of Queens, Still Standing and Reba are going the way of the dinosaur! I am sick of the Reality Garbage! why can’t the networks develop more sitcoms or bring back shows like I mentioned
April 12th, 2007 at 9:58 am
First of all, I think that Leah Remini is too fine. King and Queens is a great show. I wish someone would tell me why the show is being cancelled. I realize that there are always going to be core fans and the network brass are only looking at the big picture, but I wish the show could go at least a few more years. Thank God for reruns and putting seasons on DVD.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
Please don’t cancel King of Queens it’s the only funny show left on t.v. that’s not corny. There’s only three shows my husband and I watch faithfully Rescue Me, NipTuck and King of Queens. It’s the only t.v. series we collect on DVD please keep it on the air. Besides CSI (Las Vegas) it’s all CBS has left!!!!
March 26th, 2007 at 10:58 am

February 7th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Anita: The New Adventures of Old Christine hasn’t been cancelled. It’s on hiatus right now. My best guess is that it will be back in a month or so and will be renewed for another season.
February 7th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Why still standing funniest show on CBS…This viewer is gone somewhere else…..
February 7th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Just when Old Christine started catching on and being funny, off you go again, cancelling a very entertaining show. Please stop cancelling the good shows and trying to compete with ABC which you don’t need to do. The majority of the time, CBS is continually my favorite station.
Thanks.
January 22nd, 2007 at 11:40 pm
where are the days when what the viewers thought and desired counted maybe CBS sponsors are the ones to notify.
PLEASE BRING THIS SHOW AND OUT OF PRACTICE BACK AND KEEP KING OF QUEENS
January 19th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
Bring BAck STILL STANDING!!! ITS A GREAT SHOW!!! WHAT WRONG WITH YOU CBS?
January 13th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
Still Standing is the greatest show, please bring it back .
December 17th, 2006 at 1:54 pm
i was real disapointed when smyth was off the air it was like watching a movie but on tv that was cool
December 15th, 2006 at 1:56 am
I know it sounds stupid, but it apparently works for TV and business to have things grouped together, such as every kind of restaurant or store in 1 spot or a bunch of good TV shows on at the same time. For some reason, this generates more viewers or customers than if all of the shows or restaurants were spread out all over the place. For example, the top 2 soap operas for ratings, Young and the Restless and All My Children, are on at the same time. The biggest ratings in pro wrestling history were from 1997 to 1999 when WWF Monday Night RAW was on at the same time as WCW Monday Nitro. Competition brings ratings and success which is the American way.
December 7th, 2006 at 9:36 am
PLease… dont cancel KING of queens.. !?!?!?!?
why is it the final season ? who’s decision was it.. ??? b/c i heard Leah R. say that they’d rather go out not doing well, and not on top..like Seinfeld did yrs. ago……………. I’m so upset..
I loooove this show. !!!!!!!!!!!
=(
December 5th, 2006 at 2:20 am
i think CBS should give in to K.J.’s demands and pay the big fella more cheese. that show simply rocks. after that, Leah should dump a few pounds, dump her hubby, and drop by my pad for a little Remini on ice…oh that’s nice…Papa Spooner can just stay in his dungeon and stare out the window at the Incredible Hulk’s sagging bottom; he had his chance with Spence’s hideous looking mom, so let me and Carrie have ours.
missing nicole sullivan. Deac’s wife wasn’t bad retina candy as long as she stayed within her proper dress size– 14 huffy.
December 1st, 2006 at 5:56 pm
I am so upset that all of the good sitcoms that had some kind of comedy are going. It was time for Raymond to go, and of course all shows get old at some point, even All in the Family and Seinfeld had to go but I thought Frasier had a few more years, but King of Queens and Still Standing and Yes Dear were still in their prime and had a lot more seasons to be enjoyed. SHAME ON YOU CBS. You don’t really know what the people want. Those new shows How I met your mother is just not funny and the characters do not connect, and now your reaching with some crazy show about classmates all reuniting, like that would really happen. As John Stossel would say Give me a Break!!!!!!!!! I asked my family to get any DVD this year from some comedy shows that I really loved to watch and you cancelled. So you still win with the proceeds and that’s probably want you want, but won’t have to watch those stupid shows that you are showing now!!
November 29th, 2006 at 4:43 pm
I can’t say much about the other CBS shows but I do know for sure , The King of Queens is a side-splitting show,Iam addicted to it I watch it on TBS and CBS,There is not much quality funny shows after the departure of Seinfield,so The King of Queens is my last chance. Please do not cancel this show,I love the cast all of them are top notch in my book.
November 22nd, 2006 at 8:54 am
BRING BACK STILL STANDING!!!
November 16th, 2006 at 5:46 pm
Still Standing was a great show and I can’t believe you would cancel it before Old Christine. That is a boaring show and atleast Still Standing was a funny show and everyone I know loved that show. I hope you can hold on to the other great shows like, Two and Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, and Class. Because I never cared for CBS shows until they started watching Still Standing, then it followed with Two and Half Men, and so on, and so on. You better keep the other great funny shows or you will be back under ABC shows.
November 6th, 2006 at 1:32 pm
I can not believe SMITH got cancelled that SUX. Smith was a great show. You need to cancel some of these stupid reality shows instead of great ones like SMITH.
November 2nd, 2006 at 10:51 pm
I think everyone should just go to the CBS website to the feedback section and demand the network to stop being jerkwads and order more seasons of King of Queens. Or at least a decent final season, more than 13 episodes. This season is going to be way too short because the network doesn’t want to pay the actors the money they deserve. Send CBS some complaint you all and have them make more King of Queens episodes and don’t watch these foul “How I Met Your Mother” Garbage!
November 2nd, 2006 at 10:05 am
I can not believe you canceled Smith.Best show since who knows when.then you but on reruns. know we have another E.R. qreat if I did not live alone I would quite watching T.V., I just watch and complain anyway very little thats good,Smith was great. You could have at least given it a chance.
October 31st, 2006 at 2:22 am
Still standing and Reba are both sooo side spliting funny.
The execs will miss rev’s w/ new fans from lifetime
reruns !!!!!!!!
October 31st, 2006 at 1:28 am
i can not believe that they cancel acording to alex out of practice still standing and yes dear and for what so they could put all these one hour crime shows on i am not saying i do not like crime shows but come on how many do we need you need to spead out your network cbs so there is a little something of everything and not to much of one like to many crime show maybe one day you will listen to your viewers and when you do maybe you might be the number 1 network again
October 27th, 2006 at 1:04 pm
WHY would you cancel KING OF QUEENS? It’s the funniest damn show on tv. We are SICK of all the crime & drama shows. If we want to see crime & drama we will look out the window or turn on the news.
KING OF QUEENS was a much needed funny and relaxing break in our lives. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE LAUGHTER!
I guess now we will have to rely on old Seinfeld reruns.
October 25th, 2006 at 9:04 pm
what happened to SMITH I loved that show why would they cancel it……who are these jerks at the network…but they keep shows like survivor so lame
October 25th, 2006 at 5:10 pm
Please don’t cancel King of Queens. It reminds me of the relationship I have with my wife. We love it when Doug does something stupid and Carrie catches him. I think many families can relate to this show as they are dysfunctional, but warm and loving too.
Sincerely,
The Haynes Family
October 22nd, 2006 at 1:05 pm
Another show that deserves to die is King Of Queens. Leah Remini hit the wall after having her first child. She is now a fat loudmouthed cow who is unfunny and painful to look at. The show that should also die is Two and a Half Men with that woman beating ***** monger wife and drug abusing Charlie Sheen. The only watchable Tiffany show was Still Standing. I savored every episode and it left much too soon.
October 19th, 2006 at 9:16 pm
So sorry to see “King of Queens” leaving the air. I’m a displaced New Yorker and I’m going to miss the show for nostalgic reasons as well as good entertainment. It had a long run, I think it could have gone on a bit longer, but, it is what it is. I agree with many of the responses, it seems as though all of the good comedy and entertainment shows are gone. Now we’re stuck with those stupid “reality” shows, I am still trying to figure out who is watching them, because no one I speak to admits to it. I hope it won’t be long before we can get back to real entertainment. Good fortune to the cast of “King of Queens”.
October 19th, 2006 at 7:25 am
DO NOT CANCEL KING OF QUEENS!~THAT SHOW IS SO FUNNY—–ITS LIKE A MODERN DAY JACKIE GLEASON AND AUDREY MEADOWS “THE HONEYMOONERS” KEVIN AND LEA
HAVE THE PERFECT CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!!!!!1
October 18th, 2006 at 7:27 pm
I can not believe the show Smith was cancelled, everytime a good one comes out, it goes. Yet, they keep the crap reality shows, and stupid sitcoms. Who rates this stuff?? Who decides what is a good show, and what gets cancelled? We got DVR just so we can record shows like, CSI, Smith, Vegas, Medium. What a rip. I think TV just gets worse every year.
October 16th, 2006 at 7:23 am
Okay here is my take on all the shows that are being cancelled.
Smith Loved the show, hate to see it go. Studio 60, rumors it’s going as well. Ivasion, good show, sucks that no one gets to see what happened. Hated that they did that with the Guardian year before last. Everwood and Charmed were 2 of my favorite shows and damn they are gone too, although I don’t think Charmed had anything to do with it not having good ratings, it was just time to be over for them.
I know TV shows are put on opposite of each other to competitive purposes. But c’mon you put a new show on opposite of any CSI, Greys Anatomy, Law and Orders, House or any big show like that, they don’t stand a chance no matter how bad someone wants to watch it, doesn’t mean the show isn’t good. I am lucky enough to have a DVR so I record the shows I can’t watch, but if you tried taking off some of the reality shows and other crap, you could spread them out so everyone would watch them and nothing would have to be cancelled, I mean sometimes there are 3 to 4 great shows on at one time for example: On Monday nite At 7pm I am Not sure what happened to Prison Break,(one of my favorite shows) in it’s place is how I met your Mother and The Class, gimme a break, the class really sucks!! Then at 9pm, CSI Miami, What about Brian, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip all on at the same time. I betcha if you put one of those shows on at 8pm it would be just fine. I won’t go on any further but it is that way all week long. Except on Sundays, there isn’t a damn thing on until 9pm…somebody need to get someone on these networks that knows how to do a Channel Line Up….Good Luck, I hope somebody figures all this out sometime in the near future. Why should I have to chose between Criminal Minds,Boston Legal and Law & Order SVU……….IT Sucks!!
October 14th, 2006 at 10:47 am
Please don’t cancel King of Queens my husband and I really liked that show. Your Monday night lineup was the best with King of Queens , How I met your Mother then Two and HAlf Men. we both never laughed so hard and truly enjoyed our time togehter. Now you have the Class which he won’t even watch so why not bring back King of Queens so we can be toghter. Why not cancel Survivor I never have watched that show nor do I plan to. Everythig always gets cancelled so why even watch TV. Then where will your ratings be.
October 11th, 2006 at 5:57 pm
The new show Smith did it get cancelled? I scared to watch and new TV shows everything I like gets cancelled. First reunion, then invasion and is it now Smith?
October 9th, 2006 at 8:13 pm
You know I don’t have a clue who is running things up in TV land but canceling the good shows can not be helping these stations any. I mean we no sitcomes now worth Watching Tuesday thru Friday. Everything now is reruns or Criminal Justice shows for an hour or so… what happen to the tradition Friday Family shows? The shows that brought families together? The stuff on now I would not let my 16 year old watch… there is so much murder, crime, nudity, vaulger… etc. Seinfeld, Freinds, Two and a Half Men are shows that have a tone that stretches the limits, however, it works.
King of Queens… I liked this show as well as Yes Dear and now we say So long to these… Please tell me we are not entering a era of more crime based shows, or Wacky Alien sitcomes that are not cutting the edge of the surface… ENOUGH ALREADY pull some average Smo’s in and get back to the basics with a Story line that can last… to much to fast will result in to little to late… “As if you care what we think…” $$$$$$$$$$
October 9th, 2006 at 7:26 pm
NO MORE KING OF QUEENS THIS IS CRAZY FIRST YOU CANCEL NOT CBS BUT OTHER DAWSONS CREEK FRIENDS EVERY BODY LOVES RAYMOND OUT OF PRACTICE O AND WILL AND GRACE NOW THE KING OF QUEENS WHY CAN’T YOU CANCEL SURVIVOR THAT SHOWS BLOWS BIG TIME!!!!!BESIDES KING OF QUEENS STAR KEVIN JAMES IS SO HOTTTTTTT
October 6th, 2006 at 3:54 am
I liked still standing, Yes Dear, and now I hear that King of Queens is going of the air after this season. They are getting ride of a lot of great shows.
October 5th, 2006 at 7:13 pm
King of Queens got me through a difficult period of depression. Laughter is the best medicine. The combination of this ensemble has been fantastic. If you can keep it going, please do. I think this show helps us all of us to just laugh!!!
October 2nd, 2006 at 5:16 pm
What’s wrong with CBS! Yes Dear, Still Standing and Out of Practice were far better than the crap reality shows! Bad move by CBS as far as I’m concerned.

I’m truly disappointed over the cancellation of Charmed. The last episode was wrapped up perfectly. I didn’t know that I was watching the last episode at that moment. Some of us like to watch more than sports, talk shows and comedy shows sometimes. I don’t have anything against those types of programming if you’ve got the time and interest for them. But I guess sports, talk and comedy shows bring home the most bacon since non-cable television seems to be saturated with them.
I read somewhere that TNT was going to air most if not all of the Charmed episode re-runs. I know that there are some if not all of the Charmed season dvd’s available. Charmed was a good show in my book. I liked the soap opera taste of Charmed. I also enjoyed the adventure, the drama, the suspense, the action and the family-oriented tast of Charmed. As I’ve stated elsewhere, people say that you get what you pay for. I am considering subscribing to a cable service to see more of the types of television programming that interest me. Currently I watch less than 5 hours of non-cable television programming on a weekly basis.
Less than 5 years ago, I was watching New York Undercover, The Emergency Room, She Spies, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and another show that I think was called the X-men. Heck I don’t even think that the Outer Limits and the new Twilight Zone airs on the non-cable networks in my area anymore. I’m beginning to believe that it’s not worth the effort to turn on my television until I subscribe to a cable service.
September 26th, 2006 at 8:44 am
Please don’t cancel King of Queens!!!! It is my all time favorite show and I cringe to think what my life would be like without it!!
September 25th, 2006 at 9:11 am
I wish Invasion hadn’t been cancelled, I really enjoyed watching that and Lost on Wednesday nights. There is no closure where the show and it’s characters are involved. That’s a terrible way to end a series.
September 22nd, 2006 at 8:34 pm
they should stop making all the reality shows and more entertaining one that everyone can enjoy.Invasion was really good and they shouldn’t just leave it like they did
September 21st, 2006 at 1:10 am
Charmed should have not been cancelled it was the best show on earth.i love it and i will love it always.
September 20th, 2006 at 5:30 pm
Corinne and Lori:
Invasion aired on ABC and was unfortunately canceled. You can read details here.
The complete Invasion series is available on DVD and features some nice extras!
I’ve got a lead on a few story concepts from season two. Stay tuned for a new post!
September 20th, 2006 at 4:58 pm
Chopshop: Surface aired on NBC and was cancelled some time ago. You can read details here.
The complete Surface series is available on DVD here.
September 20th, 2006 at 4:57 pm
I too have been hanging on the edge for the Invasion premiere. Is it coming back on?
September 20th, 2006 at 3:55 pm
Just wondering what happened to Surface? I never missed an episode…I hope it wasn’t cancelled. Does anyone have any idea what happened?
September 20th, 2006 at 12:34 pm
My husband and I are saddened by the cancellation of “Out of Practice” and “Just Legal”. I suppose the powers that be could care less about what anyone in our age group thinks! I’m 58, and my husband is 60.
We still FEEL & ACT like we’re 40…so why shouldn’t our vote count??
September 20th, 2006 at 10:21 am
King of Queens is a funny, funny show. I will miss it. Big goofy man-good looking gal, crazy old father living downstairs-a good recipe. Gave Out of Practice a fighting chance and basically found out fast it was going to be all “man-drama” with the son who lost his woman (insert Boo-Hoo here)- same ole schtick of How I met your mother- just whiny guy drama. Comedies are supposed to make you laugh and take your mind off the drama of real life- and these two don’t. Period.
September 20th, 2006 at 7:13 am
I really hope this will be the last season for Survivor. It is growing old and boring.
As old rock-’n-rollers, my husband and I really like the ROCK STAR shows. It is a huge boost for all of the bands on the show and great publicity. Keep it up, although we always disagree with the choice of the final rocker. Both shows we chose to never buy any CDs or go to the concerts if one of the singers is chosen and looky looky the bands cose the very singer we hated. We do enjoy the music though.
September 19th, 2006 at 6:40 pm
still missing Judging Amy. Any hopes for cpme back?
September 19th, 2006 at 3:46 pm
Just wanted to tell Corinne that while I really liked Invasion as well, it only aired for one season not two. It really left all the viewers hanging in mid air.
September 19th, 2006 at 8:21 am
I am a dwarf and the only happiness I have is to watch Leah on King of Queens. I’m also gay and she makes my head spin. The accent drives me crazy and the only thing I can think about while lying in bed a night is the love of my life. She is my inspiration, my world and my everything. I live for her!!! Please do not cancel the show!!!!
September 19th, 2006 at 8:15 am
Please DO NOT CANCEL King of Queens. Its the best show out there!!! I laugh so hard and it makes me forget my trial and tribulations of being a dwarf. I love this show please don’t cancel it, don’t forget us “little people” like to laugh too!
September 19th, 2006 at 7:31 am
Please don’t cancel King of Queens. I’m a hermit and that’s the only show I watch. PLEASE!! I don’t leave my house or converse with anyone other than my Lizard. This is extremely important to me…..
September 17th, 2006 at 12:02 pm
What happened to INVASION? My husband and I watched both seasons and we loved it. However, we see some of the cast are now on up coming NEW shows.
Have they been cancelled?
September 9th, 2006 at 11:43 am
well, “Out of Practice” was a smart adult comedy,, Sooo it was cancelled, The state of t.v today
September 7th, 2006 at 7:32 am
My family really enjoyed watching Yes, Dear & Still Standing. They were two of the last remaining family shows that my husband and I were comfortable watching with our kids, as a family.
I also throughly enjoyed watching Henry Winkler in Out of Practice - I thought all of the characters were very, very funny.
I think cancelling these three shows was a BIG mistake for CBS.
September 5th, 2006 at 9:15 pm
“still standing” was good because of mark addy and jamie gertz. i don’t know why it didn’t get better ratings. “yes, dear” was a giant steaming bowl of elephant piss and shouldn’t have lasted past the pilot. then again, every stupid-ass reality show that comes down the pike seems to stay on the air forever, so i guess i shouldnt be too surprised.
September 5th, 2006 at 12:23 pm
I guess the family type shows aren’t RAUNCHY enough for CBS to keep airing.
September 5th, 2006 at 11:09 am
Was just wondering if Fox will be airing the final shows for Reunion. I know everyone is dying to know who the killer is.
August 9th, 2006 at 11:41 am
Will there be a finale for ABC Invasion?
July 31st, 2006 at 6:54 am
Bring back Out of Practice. The quality of the writing is too good to be replaced by that other swill.
July 29th, 2006 at 9:04 am
CBS made a big mistake cancelling Out of Practice. I thought the show was a lot funnier than King of Queens,How I Met Your Mother, Or The New Adventures of Old Christine.
June 16th, 2006 at 4:57 pm
King of Queens has been renewed for the 2006-07 season, though only for 13 episodes and as a midseason replacement. It will be the show’s ninth season, making it the longest-running sitcom currently on network TV.
However, actress Leah Remini has confirmed that it will be the show’s final season. Expect to see CBS start to air new episodes in January 2007.
If you can’t wait, reruns of the Kevin James show start airing in the Fall of 2006 on TBS.
June 16th, 2006 at 9:05 am
DID THE KING OF QUEENS GET CANCELLED ?
