Blood Ties: Will It Return for Season Three Or Has It Been Cancelled?
Despite being on Lifetime for less than a year, supernatural drama Blood Ties has developed an intensely devout following. Still, the last two episodes of the season were aired online only. Has the series been cancelled or will the vampire return for more adventures?
Blood Ties is a Canadian series that’s based on the books of fantasy author Tanya Huff. Set in Toronto, the series follows private investigator Vicki Nelson (Christina Cox) who left the police force when she began to lose her eyesight. She ends up partnering with mysterious Henry Fitzroy (Kyle Schmid) who turns out to be a 480-year-old vampire and the illegitimate son of Henry the VIII. The two slowly become attracted to one another, a situation complicated by Vicki’s relationship with her former partner, Mike Celluci (Dylan Neal).
The show premiered on March 11, 2007 on Lifetime Television in the U.S. and began airing several months later in Canada. While the first season of 13 episodes was still airing, Lifetime ordered a second season of nine more (the 22 episodes were actually originally produced as a single season). Lifetime had other programming scheduled for the summer months so the “second season” didn’t begin airing until October 12, 2007.
The show aired as part of Lifetime’s “Psy-Fridays” line-up, alongside Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead and America’s Psychic Challenge. According to TV Guide, because the other two shows ran out of episodes, Lifetime opted to rework the night’s schedule and relegated the two remaining Blood Ties episodes to an online release.
Lifetime hasn’t officially cancelled the show but the “online exclusive” treatment is usually reserved for a series that’s finished. So, if Lifetime cancels the series, is that the end? Maybe, or maybe not.
There is already interest in continuing the series among Canadian broadcasters but a U.S. partner is likely needed to help with the financing. Without that backing, we could have a rerun of what happened to the Falcon Beach teen drama last year. When ABC Family decided against a third season, it wasn’t financially possible for Canada’s Global TV to pay for Beach on its own and the show was cancelled.
If a new U.S. channel is found, Blood Ties executive producer Randy Zalken says the series will certainly be back. He told Eonline, “The sets are still available — they’ve not been destroyed — our talent is very eager to come back, and our show runner, Peter Mohan, is standing by.”
Zalken doesn’t believe the ongoing writers strike would be standing in the way if Blood Ties were to get a season three greenlight. He said, “I don’t think the strike is going to hurt us, because Canadian writers are not hindered by the U.S. guild rules. So, we can be delivering new shows for the fall — I guess that’s more than a lot of [U.S.] producers are saying now.”
Nice as that sounds, Zalken may be underestimating the WGA support of Canadian writers. Blood Ties author Tanya Huff had been writing episode commentary for the Lifetime website but stopped in support of the writers strike. Blood Ties screenwriter Denis McGrath is a solid supporter of the WGA strike as well.
For now, we may have to wait until Lifetime makes a final choice to either cancel or to renew the series. Part of their decision may hinge on how well the Blood Ties reruns perform next month. The entire series will be rerun on weekend nights beginning Saturday, February 9th. Will the vampire series rise again? Stay tuned!

Just started watching Blood Ties on Foxtel here in Australia.
What a fabulous concept, I love the show. I’m sure you could even get a few of the old “Buffy/Angel” fans hooked on this. It’s fabulous!!!

Over here in England, I started watching the second series of Blood Ties only recently on Living. Unaware that the second series would possibly be its last, I became hooked on the show - considering I critique most TV programmes harshly and very rarely become this addicted to one, I can’t understand why there aren’t plans for a third series. I’m ordering the first series on DVD already!
I hope it’s brought back and if so, it better be on Living where us Brits can watch it. I’m sick of missing out purely because I don’t live in the USA.
But. Like I said, I hope it comes back, even for just one more series, atleast for a more conclusive finale!

I need a enjoyable and funny supernatural, vampire show. please bring it back i really want it back because the last one got most of every one watch it want more and making most wonder what happened next. so please bring it back

Please bring back Blood Ties! The show has received so little support from the networks and the fact that the fans remain so loyal to the cause after all this time is a testament to what the show could be. It also seems that it would be a shame to waste all the publicity that has been generated through the campaigns and on sites like YouTube and Amazon which has generated new fans after the show was cancelled.

Please I live in Dover, De. and my Hhusband and I really enjoy blood ties and we hope you bring it back on lifetime or any station so we can watch it , we really miss it . This was a realy good show. Blood ties had everything in it,, It had mystery , love and romance and friendship and it show he really cared so many other things to mention about this show, So Please bring it back to us.. We miss it..

Please don’t cancel out Blood Ties! I absolutely love that show!! I live in Malaysia and has been watching Blood Ties on Star World, so are my friends and family..we are so hooked on that show and again, please, please!! Bring back blood Ties!! I’ll be devastated if the show is canceled!

I hope that it is brought back, Blood Ties is the only television series that I’ve ever been hooked on. I’m not even remotely interested in any other programs.

hey i absolutely love blood ties im alwasy excited for tuesday night becuz thats when i can watch it on tv. Ive been following it for a while now and im officially hooked… actually ive got my family and best frined hooked on it as well.
Im really hoping there will be a 3rd season becuz iw nat to see if vicky ends up wiht henry or mike. Personally i hope and think that vicky should/will end up with henry.. becuz u can tell have have feelings for each other. and also no offense to Dylan Neal or anything but i do not like his character.. i neam the character of mike celluci is ok.. but thats it.. henry’s character is soo much better. so ya
pleas bring back blood ties for another few seasons u’ve got my family&friends and i hooked on it!!!! and we’re waiting for more!!!.

I started watching Blood Ties when it first aired on Life Time . My daughter and son &
daughter -in-law, in other words, pretty much every one I know including friends loved
watching the show !! As soon as we really get into the show and the actor’s in the show it is taken off the air !! What’s up ? Please put Blood Ties back on Life Time !
I know plenty of people that are ready to get back into a really great show !! If it goes
to another network make sure everyone knows where to find it . We all think Life Time
should keep it there. I think they would be making a mistake not getting that show

I love blood ties i have to drive half an hour to my friends house to watch it. Please do not take it off the air. It the only actually good vampire series on tv today. Please im begging you don’t cancel.

i love blood ties i am watching some of the old shows right now there are so many shows on tv that i dont even understand why they are even on but blood ties was really good. i really wish that it could be brought back

We’re still holding our breath in hopes that seasons and episodes will follow. There are few shows I watch on a regular basis, but BLOOD TIES was a definite must. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BRING THE SERIES BACK TO THE US MARKET!!!!!!
