TV Exec Drops Hints About Fate of Several CBS Series
CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler had a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter recently and discussed the 2007-08 season that’s coming to an end and the 2008-09 season that’s yet to come. Though CBS’ fall schedule won’t be announced for another few weeks, the exec did drop a few hints as to the status of some of the network’s shows that are still “on the bubble.”
Moonlight — “One thing Moonlight has going for it is it wins its time period. Unlike Jericho, Moonlight is not serialized. Moonlight was a presentation (rather than a pilot). By the time the strike hit, we were still making certain discoveries and exploring new ideas and the show’s mythology.”
How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine — When asked to confirm if the sitcoms would be back next season, Tassler said, “I can’t confirm, but the last two episodes of Christine did great, Britney [Spears] week did great on Mother, and the next week did great, too. Both shows look good.” (There are rumors that, if Christine isn’t renewed by CBS, rival ABC will likely grab it.)
Shark — The James Woods series is still on the bubble; “We haven’t made any decisions yet about Shark.”
Cane — The Jimmy Smits show has been off the air since December and out of production for five months. On the positive side, Tassler wasn’t prepared to call the Latino drama dead yet. On the negative side, she called the drama’s chances of renewal “a real long shot.” No big surprise there.
Which, if any, of these shows will join the list of already renewed programs? We’ll know soon so stay tuned!

Very saddened to hear of the cancellation of SHARK. I am so tired of reality shows and shows geared to teenagers and younger people. What about people over the age of 35? Don’t we get to watch wonderful actors like James Wood? Think of how popular the Law & Order and the CSI shows are. Hopefully you will rethink your decision about Shark.

I respectfully ask that you strongly consider renewing Shark for the fall season–in addition, along with Shark, Cane was one of my favorite shows and really miss it –again, please reconsider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
