Deadwood: The HBO Series Will Return, Sort Of

HBO's Deadwood series will returnCan fans save a show? Well, if they act quickly, try hard enough, and use financial pressure, the answer seems to be “Yes!” When it was announced that HBO would we cutting the wild-west Deadwood series short after three seasons, fans of the HBO series got, well, downright ornery! They signed petitions, took out an ad in Variety (a Hollywood trade paper), sent letters and made calls indicating that they would cancel their HBO subscriptions at the end of Deadwood’s third season (which recently started airing).

As a result, HBO and Deadwood creator David Milch have now come to an agreement. Deadwood will return following the third season… sort-of. Rather than a full-blown 12-episode season to complete the series (which would have been quite costly and now, very difficult to coordinate), HBO and Milch will instead produce a pair of two-hour movies.

But wait, hadn’t HBO previously offered to pay for a six-episode fourth season? How is this better? Milch has said that he wasn’t in favor of doing a six-episode season because each episode of Deadwood has typically represented one day in the lives of the characters and South Dakota area. Shifting to two-hour movies will allow him to break that format and to be able to complete the storytelling he had for the final season. Milch has said that he’s thrilled that they worked out a way to continue Deadwood past the third season.

But what about the series actors that were released from their contracts over a month ago. Can HBO get them back? Though Deadwood cast members have not been signed for the movie projects as yet, it seems clear that HBO intends to do all it can to work out this aspect as well. One source has reported that HBO intends to “make it worth their while.” No doubt. Wouldn’t want to upset these fans . . . TV Series Finale home page

Mick, an avid Deadwood fan Says:

Deadwood would have to be the BEST TV SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! created. All my mates, (and I ), were hanging on for the next installment of Deadwood, only to be crushed by HBO. HBO must have rocks in their heads to think that something as brilliant as this would go away without anyone kicking up a stink.
All the actors in the show played their parts to perfection, making me want to go and live in ‘ A Hell Of A Place To Make A Fortune’.
Ian McShane, John Hawkes, Robin Weigert, Timothy Olyphant, Powers Boothe, Paula Malcomson, Gerald McRaney, Kim Dickens, W. Earl Brown, William Sanderson are all people who brought the whole Deadwood experience alive.
Living in hope that season 3 won’t be the last.

    Long live Deadwood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just finished watching season 3 on dvd can not believe something so good both writing/acting superb beyond any other TV show i have watched …….it was so real you could taste the dust..as for the swearing……yes it shocked me in season one,it was beyond anything i had ever seen or heard before, thats what made it so real..it wasen’t sugar coated or white washed like so many other programmes on TV…
surely something that got people talking/thinking/ looking into the history of your country is worth a 4th season …..

No Deadwood…NO HBO!!! Simple as THAT! We have all three of Deadwood season’s and have watched them over and over, and will continue to do so! Every show you put on that is good, i.e., Rome, you cut it. I have never used bad words (much), but your actions show that your CEO’s, or whoever is in charge, are all a bunch of Fuc*** C***S******, if you get my drift.
And, try as I might, I can’t EVEN get a Deck of Deadwood HBO Cards Anywhere! {unused ofc.} even on e-bay, “watch as i may”. You can’t tell me HBO didn’t prosper from this Series in more ways than one! Stupid C**********! I was in business and know the “no more than 3yr. Rule”…But when you got a good thing you keep going with it…till it starts to pan out, like Gold. OR Money, for those of you at HBO who don”t know the difference! Until we meet again, judy P.S. DEADWOOD FANS:
Please DISCONTINUE HBO until we have our Beloved C********** BACK!!!

I was so hooked on Deadwood I almost felt I was in that town..It just about made me want to kick the tv in and send it to HBO..The only thing that really started making me uncomfortable was how every other word was ****–It didn’t need that many f’s.To tell you the truth I thought it might have been taken off because of that!!!!!!

I think people should start to cancel there HBO subscriptions until the Deadwood series is completed. After all there are no good shows on HBO now anyway

  10. 108
    Frank Says:

HBO, I hope this message gets back to the brass, because they need to grow some brass and do what is right. That is to satisfy their customers!!! How about doing business the old fashion way, with spit and a hand shake and get this thing done. HBO has an obligation to its loyal customers. Step up and do what’s right!! Remember, there is something called RESPECT!!!!

    denise Says:

I only signed up for hbo because of your series specials . Six feet under,, sopranos,DEADWOOD,Big love. Your network is 3 month old movies after they leave the video store. I have already seen 95 percent of your movies played . Your mini series are the best on the tube. Please don’t stop filming deadwood.

  12. 106
    Mike Josephson Says:

You already buried your first successful series’Six Feet Under’ go ahead and bury this one too along with your reputation and many subscribers, if you bury it you’re nothing but a bunch of Limberdicked Cocksuckers in my book.

  13. 105
    Lorrie chambers Says:

Dear HBO, please do not discontinue Deadwood, I am waiting for another season, what kind of Limber#%&*’s are you anyway, you could continue this Series if you want to, it is the only HBO program I watch and look forward to it and have been patiently waiting for the 4th Season. Surely you pay enough money to branch forward with many new excellent episodes for upcoming Seasons’, now get your asses in gear and beg all the cast back for some more Deadwood drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!I would really appreciate it, I would also like to add along with my complaint a very sincere Thank-You for the Seasons 1-3, I have watched the collection numerous times.

  14. 104
    C Harrington Says:

Please get a grip….. We love Deadwood… There is plenty of storyline left and great actors.
If you have to do this crazy little thing with Deadwood we hope the same actors are showcased.
Please save Rome and the Tudors…HBO was on a roll..Carnivale was canceled at the most crucial moment , however.
WE are fans and are interested in the creative outcome of HBO’s amazing freshness. Please think to keep it alive.

  15. 103
    Dave salley Says:

Drop Deadwood ? HBO should be pistol whipped !! Do they not realize the large group of Americans that were weened on westerns !! Don’t like the language ? Don’t watch ! Simple as that. I know many viewers of Deadwood that were drawn into researching the history of the times more because of that show.
That’s more than I can say about some of the shows out now that surly questions our intelligence to watch !!!! HBO you will loose on this one I’m afraid. “Sit tall in the saddle” and do what you have to do to keep Deadwood alive with the original actors as much as possible. Otherwise you will continue to loose customers……….

  16. 102
    Bruce Says:

I think that this is absolute crap i have now watched all three sessions 3 times now and cannot get enough of deadwood. I have really been looking forward to the fourth session and was willing to subscribe to the channel to watch it. But now they can forget it.

    miles Says:

HBO is making the biggest mistake ever if they remove Deadwood from their schedule. If it’s canceled i cancel HBO period.

  20. 98
    Nic Becton Says:

I sit here stunned. I’ve been waiting for the for the day that the Deadwood series would resume , only to discover that it has been canceled. Are you guys stupid. Deadwood was the very best thing on TV. The cast has been released, so obviously there will never again be another Deadwood performance. It’s madness I tell you. Shows such as Deadwood and Rome were the two things that set you apart from other networks! Now that you’ve “caved”, after 25 years of loyalty on my part, I no longer see the need to continue our relationship. Goodbye HBO. I;m sorry it has ended on such a sour note.

  21. 97
    Jennifer Decosta Says:

I can’t believe that another good show is being canceled on HBO. If it is canceled my subscription to HBO will also be canceled.

  22. 96
    Robert Shaver Says:

Who is the dumb S.O.B. that made the lame decision to cancel this primo flick? Publish his name and I would wager a months pay that he would be hounded into reversing this outrage! We the customers will pay whatever it costs to produce. Hello, can you hear?

  23. 95
    Dave Kropp Says:

I can appreciate the anger vented here. What a tremendous waste, losing Deadwood. But me, I’m just very sad. Its a great series, and now its gone.

  24. 94
    DAVID MCCULLOUGH Says:

HBO ALWAYS HAD THE BEST SHOWS, AND EVERYONE WOULD SAY “THEY ARE THE BEST”===SO WHAT DO THEY DO, CUT COST,TAKE OFF THEIR GREAT SHOWS LIKE DEADWOOD AND LOSE THEIR CUSTOMERS, NOW HBO IS THIS ONE OF MANY.SO WHY SHOULD WE PAY TO WATCH THE SAME THING THAT IS ON SHOWTIME

  25. 93
    John Anacker Says:

Over the course of three weekends, my wife and I watched the entire three seasons of Deadwood. It is by far the best TV we have ever seen. HBO must be staffed with brainless, limpdick, moneygrubbing, c**ksucking, choke-the-chicken over the bottomline lemurs to cancel it. Folly, pure folly.

  26. 92
    Sherri Smith Says:

I agree with the others most of the time when you find a show you love HBO quits.
I now have had enough disappointment, sopranos, deadwood was the final straw and I’m going to cancel my subscribtion to HBO after all they did not care for though’s of us that had no other life than sopranos and deadwood.
Come on some of us only have the fantasy of TV. Our spouces have been of disappointment so we watch TV.Well deadwood canellation was it for me.

  27. 91
    Bruce Lemon Says:

I think that the ones in charge of HBO can go f**k themselves with a big black dick for being so god dam f**ked in the head for not bring back DEADWOOD for a full season. This is the best western ever done and you f**kers have the balls to cancel well “f**k YOU”. I will just go ahead and f**king cancel you.

  28. 90
    robert Says:

we just finished watching all three seasons. it was the best weve watched. the show was great, and we just cant beleive that hbo took it off the air. what the h*ll were you thinking. you cant leave the greatest show hanging like this. how can you keep customers when you keep taking away what we like, and then keep charging more for your freakin network!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. 89
    topcat Says:

I just watched the box set in one week. I think you cocksuckers f**ked up not finishing the battle for dead (f**king)wood as I’m waiting for the end……….

  30. 88
    Justin Says:

Ok everyone, yes Deadwood is/was a great series. It’s over. Move one! And most of your comments on here are idiotic. Due to the fact, that it was announced way over a year ago now that the series was not returning…but you people still keep posting comments to bring it back/or i just found it was cancelled…my question is, where in the hell have you been all this time?

  31. 87
    Charles Says:

I too love Deadwood. My wife and look forward to watching it weekly until the network games began. The funny thing is most of the people I come in to contact with watch it. I hear it being spoke of at lunch tables and on job sites. It has a raw feel and I like that. It’s not polictically correct (virginized) and I long for true entertainment. I can remember stories of Grandpa talking about when he saw the James gang ride in to town. What that feeling was like and how the town truely acted. He and I watched alot of western films over the years up until he died and so many times I’ve heard “they would have never done that, it wasn’t like that or they didn’t waste that many bullets because typically you didn’t miss”. I truley believe that if he was still alive and based off what I heard he would have enjoyed watching this series as I do. I think that Deadwood shows a glimpse of an era that was almost all but forgotten. As long as you can run the story and you have actors willing to play these roles and research the characters they’re playing and give a honest representation. HBO should run the show and would be foolish not to with so many viewers. We had to fight for Jerico on another network. So where do I sign up.

  32. 86
    Linda Apton Says:

I sit and listen to the lanuage of Deadwood and believe it to have the best dialogue ever written for a TV series. No I’m not talking about the profanity, although that adds a richness to the mood of the show. I’m talking about the rhythm and cadence of the language. This must be an actor’s dream. Which leads me to the performances and the casting; positively brillant. How anyone can compare the cast of Lost to this ensemble. Bravo David Milch for creating TV that is art. Thank you for taking the risks that are sadly lacking in the medium of television. Too bad HBO doesn’t seem to be able to behave so bravely.

  33. 85
    PISSED OFF Says:

I am just about finished the third season of Deadwood and i cannot f**king believe that there will not be another season. I just got wind of this bullsh*t and think that this is completely unnacceptable. Everyone should band together and border-line harass these cocksuckers until they change their mind.

  34. 84
    Deb Says:

I truely enjoy Deadwood and own the DVD collection. This is the one show that my husband and I can’t wait to watch. My son watched it also and is upset that it is not on this year. This show is out there. The characters are fabulous. I had been to Deadwood, South Dakota prior to seeing the series and have gone back to visit the town. We are going back again. Please bring back the series, it is really worth it.

  35. 83
    Erin Says:

I got hooked on Deadwood. I got all 3 seasons from Netflix, Well I was ready to get HBO untill i found out that they were not putting it back on. SHAME ON HBO!!! That is one sure way to loose all your customers. Bring back DEADWOOD!!!!!!!!

  36. 82
    judy Says:

You have got to be kidding they are going to cancel “Deadwood”? My God its the only good show on Tv. im going to cancel my HBO if thats the case. Why pay for something that sucks. Cancel” Big Love” and put that money into DEADWOOD.

  37. 81
    Debbie Says:

There were only three reasons for me to have HBO… Sopranos..Deadwood..Carnivale
Hmm…They are gone……. so is HBO!!!

  38. 80
    Sharon Litten Says:

I don’t believe HBO is cancelling such a great show. I’m hooked and have bought the whole DVD collection, and have been waiting for season four! I just can’t believe they’re doing that, don’t the fans have a voice? My God! You’ve got a great show, the best characters, the story line is absolutely terrific. The actors are fabulous!!PLEASE PLEASE BRING BACK OUR DEADWOOD !!!!!!

    cyndi gai Says:

HBO screwed it’s subscribers again - 1st no more Carnival, then no more Deadwood - now the latest screw job - no more John from Cinncinatti
HBO truly sucks and after Big Love is over - I will definately CANCEL!

  41. 77
    Dotty Says:

I can not understand why when you put a wonderful show like Deadwood on you can even think of cancelling it. I know the language is bad at times but I am pretty sure from what I have read about the west this comes closest to anything I have ever seem on tv. as it had to be back then when the west was just qrening up and later also.Parents such have enough sense not to let children watch but I really looked forward each week to see it.I even love the reruns on now!!!

  42. 76
    WESTON Says:

I have had hbo for 12 years,no deadwood , no more hbo you guys truly suck ass

  43. 75
    John Conner Says:

HBO is to commended for giving life to Carnivale, Deadwood. And, also, condemned to f***ing lunacy for killing off great shows before they’ve gained their full audience potential. Deadwood is/was full of wit, pathos, action, seduction, greed, beauty, innocence and, innocene lost. I could taste the grit and feel the camp’s life blood — including that spilled. It was like a great book playing out in front of my eyes. There are very, very few other shows that captivated me in such a manner. How is that the drivel, mind-numbing crap on ABC, CBS and NBC can go on and on and on for years while entertainment imbued with intelligence, excitement and humor — that doesn’t insult its audience — is vaporized after two, or three seasons? Keeping things “fresh” in your (HBO) line up is one thing, but the summary execution of Carnivale and Deadwood is not only foolish, it drives away viewers.

  44. 74
    Melissa & Terry Major Says:

Well, now we know, don’t we: HBO sucks; not as well as Trixie and only slightly better than The Networks!
My husband and I started watching the series in June, this year, starting with Season 1 (thank you BlockBuster!) and are already into Season 3. We were considering subscribing to HBO (we have Dish Network w/ a DVR and no other “premium” channels, cuz we mostly watch the History channel, etc. & DVD’s, so what’s the point?) just to be able to watch Deadwood every week after we’d “caught up,” but now I find out that the best f**king show in production, isn’t!
WE understand, even if anyone else can’t: “THEY” ($$corporate$$ Amerika) are terrified of anything that might make the “sheep” start thinking intelligently, again! AND it’s mighty difficult to slyly SELL to them (using product placements) in shows about eras before SUV’s & Coca-Cola, isn’t it?
What happened? Did HBO hire the exec who cancelled the original Star Trek series.
    Y’all are pathetic!

  45. 73
    Paul W. Smiley Says:

I’ll watch HBO again when Deadwood returns….

    are you kidding Says:

Al gets his finger chopped off, and Hurst rides off into the sun set, come on! It cannot end that way I need more.

  47. 71
    Pam Jackson Says:

Well this is my second letter to you about DEADWOOD. You answered my first one with an apology and “hang in there,we will give you more and a closure” I can’t even explain how devasated I am…and I didn’t even know it was gone until today..I live a REALLY BUSY LIFE and DeadWood was my escape from reality..I was always excited and waited all week for the next episode. I FEEL LIKE SOMEONE DROWNED MY PUPPY
I will never forgive HBO for this..nor will I ever watch anything my Milch…..period

  48. 70
    Fan Says:

Deadwood was my favorite series of all time. Superior acting and very well written stories. Such interesting characters, especially Swearengen & Calamity Jane. I agree with fans, it was a series that became addictive and I could hardly wait for the next episode. Needless to say, I am so disappointed that Deadwood has been canceled.

  49. 69
    Emily Says:

HBO used to have so many great shows, but now their all over or cancelled. They shouldn’t be relying on ratings because not everyone watches the show on HBO. I live in Canada, and as much as I would love to subscribe, they don’t distribute here. My family and I rent series such as Six Feet Under, Carnivale and Deadwood. The way they rate tv shows should really change because they aren’t counting all the people who rent, tape or tivo the show.
I hope at least we will get two movies of Deadwood so things could be rapped up. It’s awful what happened to Carniavale, being cancelled. Shows like Carnivale and Deadwood are really rare to come by, they’re truly works of are, and shouldn’t be thrown away just because some people think it has bad ratings.

P.S.: BRING CARNIVALE & DEADWOOD BACK!!!!!!!!

  50. 68
    CCC Says:

I totally agree that HBO should be dropped from everyones channel lineup. I will be doing so this month. It never keeps the shows that are great and the movies aren’t any different than are on other pay channels. Good Bye HBO!!!
Deadwood and Sopranos had to go and so do you!!!

  51. 67
    Deb Says:

I just watched the third season, volume one. After seeing the video at blockbuster, I REALLY FORGOT, HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! It is very addicting, the cast and storyline are awesome! Leaves you wanting more, PLEASE BRING BACK,”DEADWOOD”!
I dont even mind the laungage, I think that is all part of it. I think, if you could go back and visit that time era, youd find it very close to how it really was! When can we at least expect the 2 hour movie(s) to come out? I NEED MY “DEADWOOD” fix!!!!PLEASE!!??!!

  52. 66
    Deborah Says:

We got HBO for the Soprano’s and Six Feet Under. We loved both these shows and then Deadwood showed up and turned out to be one of the best shows we had ever seen. I can’t believe HBO can let such a great show go. I thought maybe the Cincinati show would be good but so far boring not sure I am even going to give it another try. Bill Maher is another shining star but really he really isn’t on that much. Sunday’s used to be HBO nite but now we don’t really care. We will probably cancel since all the movies on HBO are older anyway. The big wigs choose our movies and our music and life is blah until someone good comes along once in a blue moon, who can make it thru the gatekeepers. Someday we will all wake up and see everybody looks and sounds the same. Wow, I think that is how it is now Can’t see paying 12.00 bucks month for nothing anymore.

  53. 65
    eyvonne Says:

My friends and Ihave spent Sunday evenings together for several years watching the Sapranos. The past three years we sat GLUED to HBO watching Deadwood, forbidden by all to speak until the show was over. We all hated to see the Sapranos end, and by the way the ending really sucked! What? Do they all live happily ever after? that’s a crock of sh*t. Then… HBO topped itself by eliminating Deadwood! Needless to say, we are pissed!!! Deadwood was GREAT! It is typical that it all comes down to monitary gain and the enjoyment of consumers is irrelivant. I have been a HBO subscriber for over 20 years and tolerated the decline in programming content become less and less worthwhile. HBO repeats the same movies that wasn’t popular 20 years ago. What? Can they not afford to obtain and maintain better programming? WE WANT DEADWOOD BACK!This doesn’t mean a couple of 2 hour movies about the series will satisfy our group and we are willing to bet that is how the majority of Deadwood fans feel the same way. Viewers are now plagued by the childish going ons of Entourage, the totally uninteresting Big Love…after all, even from a womans point of view, the majority of men know for a FACT that they don’t want more than 1 wife! Now, they offer John from Cincinatti…which couldn’t grab interest in the first 10 minutes so the channel was changed. The writers of Deadwood did an excellent job of historical information, and the set was truely believable for that type of town during that period. HBO needs to get off thier ass and listen to the people who helped them to become such a strong network by purchasing a subscription to thier services month after month. I doubt if any of our opinions will be considered worth a damn, but this was one series that was worth making time for. For once, it was worth “excessive” graphics and profanity because it didn’t overcome the plot, which is rare these days. Oh well, Welcome HBO to the ever increasing practice of poor quality and substandard services that is so common in the world today. Flixs, Starz, Encore are becoming more popular every minute that passes…WAKE UP HBO

  54. 64
    RM Miller Says:

HBO SUCKS. Let’s all take a stand and boycott HBO and generate as much publicity as we can to give HBO a taste of it’s own medicine. Most people think that it can’t be done. I know other wise. Unite to regain Deadwood or unite to kill HBO.

  55. 63
    tom alexander Says:

Iloved rome and deadwood. Sopranos disappointed.Really like Etourage. What else? Oh, thats it. Damn, one fricken show for that much money does’nt seem worth it.

  56. 62
    Chick Stephens Says:

I can’t believe it. Life now officially sucks. I was waiting on season 4 and just found out there will not be one. I have told everyone that I know to watch this show. There is nothing better on television or at the movies. I wouldn’t let anyone in the room with me while I watched it, if they were going to talk. It was so intelligent that you needed to concentrate and you didn’t want to miss a minute. I just got Season 3 for Father’s Day and have never been more excited about a gift. I sat down and started watching it right away. Yea, life sucks!

  57. 61
    aaron Says:

what the F**k is wrong with HBO? How in the hell do you get rid of such a great show, guess what…….tomorrow I get rid of HBO, look there goes another customer…see ya HBO

  58. 60
    Dave Wobbema Says:

HBO cancels shows like Deadwood (just an awesome show) and replaces these great shows with Big Love and garbage like that and expect us to stand by them, well that is not going to happen, what the hell do you think you are doing over there, wake up before it’s to late!

  59. 59
    Bill Marshall Says:

The only reason I have HBO is for the Sopranos,Deadwood and Rome. Guess what? Sopranos and Deadwood are gone.

  60. 58
    Cage Says:

Like an idiot, I have been waiting and watching for Deadwood to begin. I just thought maybe somebody at HBO had gotten smart and figured out how to keep viewers from canceling during off season by spacing out the great shows, creating multiple back to back seasons instead of running them all in the same season/ months: Rome, then Sopranos, the Deadwood - smart business right? WRONG!!! When Sopranos ended and I did not see Deadwood on the cable guide for this weekend, so I searched Google and to my dismay, found out the series is not coming back. To add even more salt to my wound, in reading the above comments, I find out ROME has also been canceled. ROME, DEADWOOD and Sopranos were the only reasons we pay for HBO in my home. Makes you wonder who is in charge at HBO and how they got there since they apparently have no sense of what will keep their viewers happy and loyal and therefore their pockets lined. My household will be joining everyone else in canceling HBO (as soon as I finish writing this!) I can only hope enough people cancel and take their money elsewhere. Only then will HBO know and feel our pain, our disappointment and the emptiness that they have given us, the paying viewers! PS…If you liked ROME and DEADWOOD, switch to Showtime and give TUDORS a try. First season just ended. You can still view all of the first seasons shows “On Demand”

  61. 57
    ObladeeObladah Says:

Let me get this straight. Deadwood is cancelled. Arrested Development is cancelled. Sopranos is over. And the replacement for this sh*t is more reality tv & John from Cincinnati? What’s next? Entourage? How could this show be cancelled? It was nominated or won 22 Emmys or something like that? This was the best show that not only made us think (really who had an easy time deciphering what they were saying at times?) but entertained us thoroughly as well. I was really looking forward to the new season, especially since Sopranos is over. This sucks.

  62. 56
    Tom Rickenbacker Says:

If I can’t get a definitive answer — and soon — about whether the 2 2-hour Deadwood movies are alive, HBO and I are quits. They did this with Carnivale (which I liked ever more). I’m not taking it a second time. Wrap up the series — don’t cancel them on the break. Now that the Sopranos are gone and now that I’ve seen the horrid John from Cincinnati, there isn’t much left to pay for. Netflix, here I come.

    Bob Volpe Says:

I have been waiting for Deadwood to return, only now did I find out that it will not happen. I kept HBO for two reasons, the Sopranos (biggest disappointment) and Deadwood. I will cancel HBO tomorrow morning no sense in throwing money away. Added comment, I will not watch anything (movies or reruns) of the Sopranos, it was getting bad and progressively gotten worse (made you think it had to get better), well the ending was just a hype - TERRIBLE. HBO you’ve lost me and I am sure many others, personally I won’t stand for your viewer abuse.

    srose95709 Says:

You know, every season between the Soprano and Deadwood I had to shut off my subscription to HBO. My husband likes to save a dime. Talking him into turning on HBO for Deadwood is all for mote, I just asked him the other day, I wonder when Deadwood is going to be back?”Well I guess never.

    Michael Herron Says:

HBO has slowly over the past years began to really suck. HBO at one time was great. You had good movies, mini series and other interesting programs. Deadwood is about a piece of history that we all need to be in touch with. It is so well written aobut a civilation becomming productive and developing a society. If others don’t like the cursing then don’t watch. It is about time that networks such as HBO be more apprecitive of the people that watch HBO instead of a bunch of ego driven idiots deciding what we like or don’t like. Before you end a program why don’t you give the public a chance to have a say. If the actors don’t want to continue on in a series get rid of their ass and get someone that wants to really be an actor. HBO is in a sad state of affairs. Now that Deadwood and The Soporano’s have been discontinued I am dropping your damn program and spend the money on something worth while. I have tewlve HBO channels and they all suck. Same ole s*** over and over. Thanks for nothing HBO. You executives go and enjoy the money you ripped off from the public and be sure that you don’t trip over you freeking egos and break your neck.

    Anne Marie Says:

It truly is a shame to find that Deadwood won’t return this year. Personally, I don’t follow the doings of networks. For some odd reason, I believe that brilliance will be its own reward by being able to continue unimpeded. Amazingly, that is not the case.

I couldn’t be more disappointed in HBO to cancel this show. It had a lyrical quality of language that was both luscious and brittley beautiful at the same time. It was cocksucking Shakespear in cowboy boots.

  67. 51
    MARY Says:

i swear why even start a series if you can’t keep it going. hbo do suck mucho..what’s the problem? i’m thru watching all of their “so called series” i love the sopranos but i can see it’s gonna be a bullsh*t ending.

Deadwood; Rome and the Sopranos are the reason I pay for the HBO movie channel. I don’t get to watch much TV but I make an effort every Sunday to relax and watch this enjoyable true to life entertainment. Please stay the course. I “never”!! watch sit-coms. Can’t stand it.. Thank you for the opportunity to express my concern..

    christlike in Austin Says:

I was away from any kind of television watching for a few years due to incredible moronity on their part. By a fluke I caught the very first episode of Deadwood and was astonished. Superior writing, acting, design, historical context, etc. etc. I immediately ordered HBO. Sadly, that’s been long ago now. I really thought that HBO’s incredibly artistic original content was going to provide a new era for television. No. Just more of the continuing ignorence of before. I’m cancelling HBO and basically don’t give a sh*t what you do.

  72. 46
    Mark Says:

When is HBO going to start production on our “pity movies”? I have been debating on canceling HBO, but like most are waiting until the movies at least get aired….I cannot believe that management can loose so much touch with the CUSTOMER…..Remember this HBO; in the end what keeps you around is US, and when we get enough of your stupid sh*t, you will go away just like all the other bad products that the consumer is wise enough to stop wasting time and money on. You have built an inteligent customer base and have the lack of forethought to act like this? BAD MANAGEMENT!!!!! You need to start watching your 2nd and 3rd quarter returns, because I feel that you will see a dip….

    Scott W Says:

All I can say is I agree with just about all of the comments before me. This is the second time HBO has f**ked me. The first time was when Showtime canceled Huff, another great show, whats next, Weeds? Why not? it is a hit show with a large following. I am canceling my subscription to HBO. For those of you that need a new fix, try Rescue Me on FX and Weeds! I watched the second season of Weeds in one sitting, it is like crack! Anyone that enjoys Deadwood, will most likely enjoy Weeds and Rescue Me…… f**k HBO **** Suckers!

I keep looking for Deadwood to return, week after week I await my favoriet TV show to magically show up on Tivo. Tonight I decided to Google it. This is a very sad day…

I have been out of the country and couldn’t wait to get back to the US and watch Deadwood! I couldn’t find it after signing up for HBO. I need my deadwood fix! What the hell is HBO thinking? I will cancel my subscription to HBO because a two hour movie doesn’t cut it!! I need my weekly Deadwood fix! I am sick and tired of studio heads showing sh*t on TV and getting rid of the shows that we the viewers that pad their pockets really like! Deadwood is an award winning show what the f**k are you guys thinking?

it is always so rare that a show comes along which captures our interest and desire for more like Deadwood. It’s always tough to see them end,but in this case the show is letting the viewers down by not giving us a fair and satisfying conclusion to a magnificent story.I’m sure it all comes down to the $$ like everything else so i guess we’re left out in the dark again. We all make mistakes and i believe that you have made a huge one here. Canada loved Deadwood….

I also agree it is rare to find “GOOD” shows on tv now days. I have fallen in love with this series, and am upset that it will no longer be on the air. What a disappointment to HBO. Once again they are letting us “The loyal Viewers” down.

hey, Paul, I think you’re confused. william randolph hearst, not george hearst, was one of the inspirations for Charles Foster Kane. Citizen Kane had absolutely nothing to do with the deadwood character. easy enough mistake to make, i suppose, since they are both historical figures, eh?

Please don’t let this series be a flop . I don’t watch much TV, but I find the writing unique and takes me away from the stress of my work at least one day a week. This is great stuff, for adults. It’s the only reason I carry HBO when the series is run.

I ordered Deadwood from netflix and I can watch the whole season at my own pace. I got tired of cancellation, commercials, and lousy shows picked by some brainless wonder. Cancel now! people have the power they just don’t use it. Why pay all that money for HBO? The movies are old and you cannot depend on the programming.

For pity sake please at least wrap up the story lines before you cancel Deadwood. Everytime there is a Great show that takes a little concentration to understand it get cancelled!!!!!!!!!!! I have heard that George RR Martin’s Fire and Ice saga will be made into a series by HBO. If that is true please don’t bother. That would also be a great series but the subject matter is fantasy so I am sure it would be cancelled! It could not possiblly survive in a culture where I love New York and Celebrity Fit Club are considered fine viewing. Smarten up HBO. The only reason for my subscription is programs like Deadwood, Rome etc. Maybe it is time to cancell YOU!!

The Sopranos was a disappointment last year and all we really have to look forward to is DEADWOOD for 2007. Is HBO caving and ending the best show on premium channels because of pressures from the Religious Right or the FCC and their ridiculous rating standards? We spend well over $100 a month because of programs on HBO like Deadwood, Bill Maher, Carnivale, etc.

    Joe Says:

I can’t fathom why they cancell the best show on tv.
I so look forward to every episode and don’t want to see it end.

As much as I love the show and as disappointed as I am with it being cancelled, I think it’s the perfect way for it to be. Specifically, it’s a top notch show going out on top, not slowly falling apart over a number of years with declining writing and forced storylines. Three seasons of memorable television (and the supposed movies) to be cherished via the box sets for years to come. Good job, HBO - now do it again!

  96. 22
    Tom Says:

I am a television producer and very rarely watch any kind of program with the exception of movies on DVD. After veiwing Deadwood at a friends house, I was instantly hooked. I have never seen a better job of writing. While the language may seem harsh to some, one must remember that this is an accurate depiction of the era. I can not believe that it has been cancelled! Let´s just shoot ourselves! Paramount did it with Firefly, another great series with tons of potential and now HBO. Just when I think there is hope for my artform!

We really like the Deadwood HBO Series. We live so far out that we don’t have cable and the satelite HBO just got turn OFF so we ordered the whole series to watch and keep….Now What! are we going to get the Third series to buy and what about thees movies…Why can’t they just stay with the program.
There just aren’t any WESTERN shows any longer. They were part of our Baby Boomer TV life style. Seems that older I get, the more they forget about US Baby Bomers. We spend 2 weeks almost every year in the BLACK HILLS of South Dakota, (Bike Rally). We love the area and the history. The Deadwood Series takes us there through out the year.Come on HBO, get your act together! Indiana love’s this show.

    Tillie McGee Says:

I used to think that network execs thought the viewers were too stupid to understand good tv when it came around. Now, HBO is doing it too. We subscribe to HBO for the quality of the shows, the exceptional actors and the interesting stories. Please don’t lower yourselves to the network’s level. We need some intellegence here! The Sopranos scheduling is just a joke and many of our fellow watchers say “who cares?” now. It has been jerked around so much that we’re not interested in waiting a year or two for it to air again. Carnivale? That was a very good show that disappeared. Everyone has bolted from the networks to watch the cable/satellite stations. Where else can we go?

  100. 18
    Dwight Lilly Says:

Yes….once again we are screwed by HBO. The only reason I pay for the channel is for the original programming. I realize that the production costs are high for quality, however I thought this was offset by not using A list actors.

HBO needs to make a decision on what direction they are going to go and then inform the subscribers. They are either going to be just another cabel channel with old films and sophmoric series or they are going to be high quality viewing worth the subscription price. Personally I would pay a higher premium for premium offerings like Deadwood.

    Frank Mccoy Says:

I have been watching HBO since 1997. First was OZ , which I thought was ground breaking, you took that away from me.Then you tease me with the Sopranos, forcing me to wait years between seasons. Thankfully , I won’t have to suffer waiting for the Sopranos to finalize, much longer. Now another great HBO show: DEADWOOD , an enjoyably graphic western that I really got into. You have partially taken that from me too. All I have left is ROME.Keep this up, and you won’t have me watching HBO anymore, because i’m going to cancel my subscription.

    Robin Freeman Says:

I really like Deadwood so much as I took a vacation to Deadwood 2 years ago. It looks like the show for sure.
While we were eating lunch in the Gem we were told that some of the cast were in town for the day and we got to go to a meet and greet it was cool.
Please continue with this interesting story.
    Thanks…

It is so depressing to think that my favorite tv series is now a rerun (which is better than nothing). I can’t believe that such a high calibre show is cancelled yet reality shows succeed ( Pleeeze no more f***king, c**ks*cking crap. The language issue is mute , ever see Caligula ? There were lots of naysayers to that movie, but it was truth and it was brilliant! History, people ..keep it real or else it is just more hollywood fodder. I believe the dumification of our tv culture is set. How sad, how sad.

  104. 14
    Dale Says:

I agree the story may not have a lot of remaining ground to cover. However with each episode covering a day in Deadwood would that not leave at least 600 plus episodes for our enjoyment? At least before the main characters move on to other pursuits.
I sure miss the show! I hope we can get the movies at least to offer some type of conclusion.

  105. 13
    John Says:

HBO should continue the series just as it was. But first run the whole series from begining to end. I missed the first part and started from the end of the 2nd season. I was hooked rather quickly. This is the only series that I really enjoyed. If this does return to HBO I hope that it is with all of the original actors.

I have never been more in love with a TV series before Deadwood and was very bummed out when I heard that the series was cancelled & the actors released.
But on further study about the actual time & place that the show Deadwood is set in, I’ve concluded that there really isn’t much more story to tell. In the next couple of years along this time line, the Gem burns down….a couple of times, along with a bunch of other buildings. The Gem is rebuilt into a theater of sorts….and burns down, and most of the colorful characters move to other parts of the country within a few years. They actually found an ok stopping point.
    http://www.legendsofamerica.com/WE-DeadwoodHBO.html
I am very much looking forward to seeing what David Milch has in store for us and really hope they can get all or most of the actors back.
They really are the heart of Deadwood!
A logical spin-off of this series would be to follow the life and travels of Seth Bullock.

I have been e-mailing every week since I first heard that the had plans to kill of Deadwood. Unfortunely I’ve been e-mailing HBO. They obviously do not read their e-mails, or they just can’t read period. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be makeing the BIGGEST mistake in HBO history. Deadwood is without a doubt the BEST show on t.v. There is true history being shown with the best actors on television today. What idiots. I’m cancelling HBO. I like Big Love. But not that much.

    Paul H Caldwell Says:

I travel the world often, and can’t find HBO Deadwood where it’s not greatly sensored, such as in the Philippines. Then I have a hard time seeing each episode. So my solution was tto buy the HBO Deadwood Box Set. Season one had me hooked! The best and most realistically historical show I’ve ever seen on TV. I let friends see my box set and they too were instantly hooked. I have many friends that have boght the box sets 1 and 2. They were super. I wish I could buy season 3 box set now as I missed it. When you have such a “Masterpiece” of story telling with characters that we begin to really care about and then for what ever reason just cancel it. It reminds me of the “suits at some studios that turned down “Superman the movie” or Star Wars, who are now forgotten and in a different line of work today. It would be a blesing if the Creator of Deadwood and HBO (or maybe Showtime?) will find a way to keep this true quality acting, story telling, and production alive and well for many years to come. Thanks so much.

It is quite astonishing that the decision was made so far in advance of the final showing although it appears really well set up for a return. How could Hearst just ride off into the ’sunset’ without any retribution from Al, Seth and even Johnny who really paid such a high price in the end.
The truth is the show has been a storming success here in the UK and how good it was to see an actor who typifies Englishness play the lead as Ian McShane has done but to be honest even the Deadwood set was star quality. I do sincerely hope the story will continue even if it is just to make sure Hearst gets his due deserts

I can’t believe they have cancelled Deadwood. Why not cancell something that people don’t care about. I am sick of the games that the networks play.

While I really enjoyed the first two seasons of Deadwood, this season was fantastic. Michael Harney as Steve was hilarious, and Gerald McRaney was so creepy. I’ve grown to love some of these characters, and except for the way he spared Trixie, found him even likeable this season.

Timothy Olyphant, as always, was great, and the writing was so intelligent. I had to reference the dictionary each week because I wondered how these crass, uneducated people in the late 1800s had a larger vocabulary than most of the college educated people I know. Some of the phrases that came out of these characters mouths was so poetic.

Wouldn’t it have been nice had someone killed Hearst for good, but then we might not have had “Citizen Kane.”

    Rab Says:

I just watched the season finale of the best show on television . I don’t understand how HBO couldn’t see that or listen to the fan response when all the talk about cancelling Deadwood was going on. I understand that there is more than likely a lot of other things that can complicate keeping a show on the air. Contract renewal, money issues, and other related topics. It’s just to bad for all the fans. I’m pretty much a TV show junkie and through out the years of my time with television this is one of the best shows I have ever watched. I am looking forward to the movies if they come out.

F**k HBO you suck, first you get rid of Carnivale now Deadwood, and I bet Rome will “cost to much” in the next year or so . You used to set the bar for shows now you follow network t.v. in shutting down good shows because “They cost to much” well now its going to get harder because not only am I going to cancel my subscrption to HBO but I know about 10,000 people in Indianpolis and I’ll do everything I can to get them to cancel, I’ll rent as many billboards that are available in the city to show that HBO sucks.

    Karla Mays Says:

I am so sick and tired of finding a great show to watch and then told it’s going to be taken off the air. Deadwood is by far the best show on TV because it is fresh, different and the only wild west show you can see every week for all those western fans out there. You would think an award- winning show like Deadwood would produce enough funds to keep it going. I’m sick of the hollywood folk making decisions without public opinion. We are ones who make or break shows (and stations) and it is about “f***ing” time someone listens to us.
(Also if people don’t want to hear the word “f**k” don’t look at the show or HBO. You only know what they are saying if you’re watching it. Remember people this is HBO not regular TV.) Although, if HBO doesn’t get their act together, I will be cancelling my subscription. I’m still upset about Sopranos, because you never know when and if they’re coming back, and once again we are getting screwed with the Deadwood series. Two movies is not a substitute for losing an award-winning series.
