Men in Trees: What Happened to ABC’s Anne Heche Drama?

Anne Heche of ABC Men in TreesABC surprised more than a few people when the network renewed Men in Trees for a second season. Great, but where did it go?

Marin Frist (Anne Heche) is a best-selling author and relationship coach who helps women find the right man, using her own life as an example. On a plane trip to attend an Alaska conference, she finds out that her finance has been cheating on her and realizes that she doesn’t know as much as she thought she did. Marin decides to stay in the remote town (where the ratio of men to women is 10 to one) so that she can truly learn how to find and keep a good man, and write a new book. The cast also features Abraham Benrubi, Emily Bergl, Seana Kofoed, Suleka Mathew, Derek Richardson, Sarah Strange, Cynthia Stevenson, Lauren Tom, James Tupper, and John Amos.

Men in Trees debuted on September 12, 2006 on ABC. Trees followed the Fall debut of Dancing with the Stars and attracted over 12.1 million viewers. The second episode lost a third of the audience and attracted just over eight million in its regular timeslot. Despite a season of ratings ups and downs, ABC renewed Men in Trees for a second year on March 21st.

Men in Trees
has been off the air however since March 8th. ABC pulled the series to make room for the debut of October Road. Trees was originally scheduled to return on April 12th but ABC has reworked its schedule more than once, delaying the return each time.

ABC has now announced that Trees fans will have to wait a whole longer to see new episodes — probably five months. The remaining five episodes of season one will now be part of Trees’ second season, bringing the sophomore year episode total to 27.

Though frustrating and unusual, this isn’t unprecedented. Grey’s Anatomy and Boston Legal both had 27 episode sophomore years. There have been rumors that ABC may change their mind and decide to air the rest this season. We’ll keep you posted so stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

I was shocked when I couldn’t find Trees in the guide. That is the ONE show I actually made it a point to watch. I am seriously disappointed. Please bring it back soon!

I looked and looked on the guide, newspaper, etc. for it. This was the few of the tv shows I have time to watch. Why did you take it off? Who makes these decisions. It certainly are not the fans. Take a poll, you will see!

It seems that I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed Men In Trees. What makes all of you think that ABC will actually put it back on tv? We all loved it but ABC has jerked us around and still might do so. There are no guarantees about anything on tv except for stupid reality shows that seem to assume that we are all watching them. I just turn the tv off. I don’t want to waste my time watching dumb people making dumb choices. We need to stop watching tv until they get something good on it, like Men In Trees. What can we do to make sure that this great show is going to be back on air and will stay on consistently?

PLEASE keep Men In Trees on…its the best show on tv. It has meat instead of the silly sitcoms and especially the reality shows which have no soul.

    Thanks

I lived in Alaska also & the show is so right on. My husband & I were very disappointed to not have it air again. I am not going to beg you to put it back on the air. We will just quit watching ABC. WE have just had it. Just give us the last 5 episodes, but you need to advertise so we don’t miss it and get punished by saying the show had missed viewers. What a bunch of crock. WE JUST GAVE UP when you all pulled it. WAITING, I just have to start a fan club. Just email me and I will share some personal stories to hold up some other viewers. ALL TRUE. I will begin by telling you there is a sign in one one the bars that states”More whiskey, faster horses, wilder women”.It gets so cold in the towns near the water, you can’t walk, you can get literally blown away. I dated someone that worked on one of the boats that went out on “Deadliest Catch”. Hot, and I mean Hot. Really sweet. That was when he broke his arm on the boat. Talk to you soon fans. I haven’t oil painted since I left. See ya, Racoon.

ABC what are you thinking??? Who is in charge out there who would sacrifice the best show ABC ever had and for what? Stupid reality shows? Please fire this guy. Please, give us a break and bring back Men In Trees. And bring it back after Grey’s on Thursdays. Oh yeah, what happened to Six Degees?

This show has that “x” factor, it’s hard to describe. The photography makes me cry - I love how they shoot for maximum coverage with the outdoor shots. Can almost feel the chill, and smell campfire! The relationship issues are realistic and interesting, and sometimes just cute and silly! Stuff you can relate to, and stuff you can ponder. I NEVER watch reruns of shows - I don’t know why. But I have watched EVERY rerun of MIT so far, and I see new things in them I missed. The agent just cracks me up, love the whole Plow-Guy drama. It’s a TRUE feel-good show, and so different from all the other stupid stuff. I love everything about it. I am looking forward to her new cabin in the woods! We can live vicariously thru her. ;)

    Anne Says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the sane and rational people in programing. “Men In Trees” is such a treat. I was afraid to get involved with it because a show as entertaining and well written as this surely couldn’t last. The decision to renew a thoughtful program has reinforced my faith in the powers that be.
