Moonlight: CBS Cancels Vampire Drama, No Season Two
Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

Moonlight was the best new show in any timeslot on any day. Everytime I get hooked on a show it gets cancelled and **** like How I Met Your Mother and Old (Stupid) Christine go on and on. Maybe the CBS geniuses who make these decisions should have their jobs “cancelled”.

I was getting my recordings set up for my favorite shows just encase I happen to miss an episode. I was looking up season premiers and times .. the whole nine.. I was so pissed off to see that moonlight was canceled. My Boyfriend and I looked forward to snuggling up on the couch and watching the vamp series.
SHAME ON YOU CBS!!! Personally I don’t watch ANYTHING else on your network but Moonlight and NCIS

AHHAHA! i bet there kicking themselves in butts right now. because EVERY teen and twenty something girl love Vamps now all because of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series.

My husband and I discovered Moonlight at the end of the season last year. We fell in love with it, the characters, the storyline, the interaction between the characters….everything about it was GREAT! We bought Season I and have been watching it in preparation of Season II. What a disappointment to hear it has been canceled. We rarely find such well done shows and find TV less and less interesting. Please reconsider this show. It is one of the Best!

CBS please bring this show back, ontop of making everyone happy a season 2 would end up making YOU money… whats the problem??

I’ve been waiting all summer for a new season of moonlight but now i find out that it is being CANCELED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was the BESTEST (dont care if its not a word) show that i have ever seen and i can garuntee no show that cbs brings on will b as good. I’m really pissed about this

Moonlight is an amazing show. Get rid of Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother(each of them have over 10 seasons…I think they may be getting a little old). Its time that these shows retire. Bring back the vampire drama !

that figures cbs is dropping shows like cane and moonlight the writers strike i feel is to blame ,the series was going great for both shows and when it gets to the highpoint ,drama you idiots either move the time slot and change the day it on or you just cancel the show,i wish i had their job, ratings are not all what its cracked up to be some shows are worth more than ratings

Whatev! I cant believe it’s been cancelled! Moonlight is the BEST show out there. My ENTIRE sorority watches it. In fact we all meet (used to meet i guess) at the house to watch it. Most of us have bought the whole first season on itunes as well. This is SO upsetting. We were really looking forward to the second season. Please bring Moonlight back!
