Moonlight: Fans Mount Campaigns to Save the CBS Vampire Detective Series
In February, CBS gave early renewals for eleven of the network’s popular series. One cult favorite missing from the list was the freshman romantic series Moonlight. The series had been performing decently on Friday nights but, because of the writers strike, there haven’t been any new episodes in months. The network is producing four new episodes for this season and will begin airing April 25th. Before giving the go-ahead for season two, CBS likely wants to see if anyone remembers the series.
Fans of the vampire series aren’t waiting to see if the cancellation axe falls before starting campaigns to save it. “Operation: Renew Moonlight” kicked off yesterday and the folks from three fan sites aren’t April Fooling around. They’ve united to encourage fans to fill out a campaign form and send it along with a clove of garlic to Nina Tassler, the president of CBS. Check out Moonlight-United.com for more information.
In another effort, fans wanting to draw attention to the series are teaming up with the Red Cross and YouChoose.net for a weeklong blood drive. The campaign plans have impressed series star Alex O’Loughlin enough to become a spokesman for the Red Cross.
The “Blood Drive to Save Moonlight Campaign” will be held from April 18th through April 27th (corresponding with the start of new episodes) in cities like Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Philadelphia. There are over 4,000 pledges to date and fans are being invited to donate their time, blood or cash to support the effort and the Red Cross. Blood drive participants will be given a special t-shirt as a thank-you. For more information, head on over to MoonlightBloodDrive.org.
CBS announces their 2008-09 schedule in May so we should know if the fans’ hard work has paid off by then. Stay tuned!

I’m very upset that Moonlight has been cancelled, I guess you goof balls dont know it was a great show. I looked forward to watching it every Friday. I just cant figure out what you big shots are doing. Take a great show off to put something stupid on that no-one watches. Put Moonlight back on Friday nights after Ghost Whisper. If you dont want it, sell it to HBO they know a good show

Hey, guys! Moonlight is way too fun to not have on TV. It brings some class to a really different take on the standard detective show. I have enjoyed its every episode! And thanks, by the way, for *not* making everything revolve around rolling around in bed! Leaving something to the imagination is *so* much more powerful than trying to justify being just another show trying to exploit *** to keep going. Please reconsider keeping this show on — there’s not much left that merits watching, even in the name of fun.

Where is the sign-up sheet? If Jericho can be saved (which I was not into that series), then Moonlight can be saved or at least put the episodes on DVD for fans like myself can buy the series. Besides if you cancel Moonlight, where will Alex O’Loughlin go? I miss him and his sexiness already.
47. Beverly Ferguson said,
Love Moonlight. Wish you would show the reruns instead of a double dose of Ghost Whisper or Numbers although Numbers is up there with Moonlight. Moonlight never got a chance because of the writers strike and needs a chance to really prove itself. After all it did win a peoples choice award for best new drama. Or does that not count for anything. Let the People Speak. Networks do not always know what is best. Some of the crappiest shows are being renewed.

Moonlight is what made my Friday Nights come alive . I cannot believe that CBS would cancel this Awesome show. I will turn my tv to a different station and not watch CBS if they do not return it . I was just amazed how awesome this show was .
How many reality shows do we need .
CBS Return My Show Moonlight back . if not I will turn you off.
Give Us Back Our Show , after all we are your ratings ..without us where would you be .

Moonlight was an excellent show. I certainly hope you are not considering getting rid of it. I never cared for anything involving “vampires” but this show is sophisticated and just plain fascinating. How about returning it? If anyone could keep a show as stupid as The Nanny on for so long, surely, someone will have sense to continue with Moonlight.

What in the world is wrong with the “big wigs” at CBS. Don’t they know when they have an excellent show. Moonlight certainly brought something new to the viewing public. I couldn’t wait for Friday to watch. By the way, wasn’t it voted the ‘BEST’ new drama at the People’s choice awards? Hey, CBS, are you not paying attention to what the people want???? Hopefully, someone else will see the merits of Moonlight and pick up the best show CBS dumped.

Even though Moonlight was ?vanquished? by The Eye(CBS) of Mordor, fans will continue to fight for the return of their show and to do good works in its name.
Figures from the activities held at MoonlightCon 2008 held this past Memorial Day Weekend:
- The Saturday auction brought in $6,500 for the Los Angeles Food Bank.
- Fifty pints of blood were drawn from fans who attended MoonlightCon by the American Red Cross Blood Drive.
- 37 people, who also attended MoonlightCon, were added to the National Bone Marrow Transplant Program registry.

“Moonlight” fans: Devoted, grateful and worthy of a little respect
Recently it was reported the TheCW network decided against picking up Moonlight; but Harry Werksman, one of the show’s co-executive producers and showrunner, told the fans who attended MoonlightCon, that the Sci-Fi Network is indeed interested. When the fans learned of Sci-Fi’s interest, they decided to begin a “grassroots” campaign to make Moonlight a more attractive property to Sci-Fi by contacting DirecTV to encourage them to sponsor Moonlight as they did with NBC’s Friday Night Lights.

They must save MOONLIGHT! This was the best new show of the year… like many others, I looked forward to television on Friday nights just because Moonlight was on. It’s romantic / tragic love story of Beth and Mick mixed with other great characters and character charisma made it great entertainment! CBS had a winning trio going with Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight, and Numbers….the three shows together grabbed the viewing numbers to make CBS the highest watched network on Fridays. Personally I watched Ghost Whisperer and Numbers because they came before and after Moonlight… Moonlight was the highlight of the evening… Now… with no Moonlight - the other two shows WON’T draw me back - I have no interest in what will replace my favorite show. I won’t even tune in to try a new show…. Friday tv for me will be dead.

Moonlight is absolutely the best series I have watched! You just fall in love with the story line, and many people including myself hate to see CBS cancel MOONLIGHT! When I come home on Fridays from a long week I always look forward to watching Moonlight! Now that its gone my family, friends and I have nothing to look forward coming home to!
Canceling Moonlight is a huge mistake, and I really hope CBS fixes this mistake! CBS is going down the drain and Moonlight was keeping it up, too bad!

There are only a few good shows on T.V. and Moonlight was one of those. It is a shame to cancel good shows and leave stupid sitcoms! I don’t like the same stupid cop shows that you keep renewing and the stupid reality shows. Moonlight and The Unit are among my favorites!

Like LORI, I am fifty and the brightest spot on my weekly calendar was Moonlight.
I think the series had its flaws, it wasn’t perfect, but like my other favourite programme The X-Files, I think given a bit more time, it would have become very successful. The potential was enormous and I can’t understand why CBS won’t invest more time and money. Quite frankly, the only decent thing left to watch is Mad Men.
22. Mimi said,
The REALITY of the REALITY SHOWS is that they are some of the least expensive shows to produce. After all, the players are free of charge and will do just about anything on national TV. Sadly, MOONLIGHT was why I tuned in on Friday evenings. I had stopped watching GHOST WHISPERER, a year or two back but with the advent of MOONLIGHT I would tune into GHOST and then segway into MOONLIGHT. Guess I’ll find something else to watch on Friday as I am not interested at all in what they propose as its replacement. CBS, Les Moonves, Tina, et all…you sure pooped a pile this time! This is coming from a 60 year old, college educated professional, if you happen to find this note and want to know the demographics.
21. LORI said,
Friday nights will not be the same without Moonlight. Their hasn’t been a good Friday night in years. Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight are perfect together. My husband and I are both in our fifties and this is our favorite night of tv. If you put on one more “reality” show, we will quit watching TV. The reality is ,TV programming doesn’t leave anything to the imagination. Moonlight keeps us guessing, gives us something to look forward to on TV, and is very entertaining. I am so sad that the executives that make these decisions keep going for BIG reality bucks and don’t care about entertainment anymore. I would rather pay for a movie than watch another reality show. Let’’s face it, you can’t afford to lose anymore viewers. Please consider leaving Moonlight on Friday nights.

I WOULD BE SO UPSET IF MOONLIGHT DIDNT COME BACK.ITS A GREAT SHOW.
ME AND MY FAMILY LOOK FORWARD TO OUR FRIDAY NIGHTS WATCHING GHOST WHISPER,THEN MOONLIGHT,,ITS A AWESOME SHOW
IT A DIFFERENT SHOW INSTEAD OF THE SAME OLD THINGS SOME OF THE SHOWS CBS IS KEEPING WE CAN SURE DO WITHOUT.
MOONLIGHT IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
IF CBS WERE SMART THEY WOULD BRING MOONLIGHT BACK ,THERE ARE TO MANY DUMB REALITY SHOWS INSTEAD OF GOOD A SHOWS.
PLEASE BRING BACK MOONLIGHT ITS GREAT COMBINATION WITH GHOST .
WHISPER IT MAKES FOR A GREAT FRIDAY NIGHT.

Such a welcome oasis in a desert of reality, insipid comedies and game show series. This is not just another vampire fantasy. And yet, CBS couldn’t see what an engaging, exciting show they had on their hands. I’m still shaking my head on this cancellation, and also shaking my head at all the drivel that the networks recycle every year. Every once in a while a surprisingly good series makes it to the schedule, but you have to blink or else you’ll miss it.

Sadly, apparently all of the fans were not enough. CBS decided to cancel Moonlight. A company that bought a time slot on the CW is trying to get the show, but they only have another day to get it, or Warner Bros. is going to tear the set down….

I agree totally with MJ. This is the best show to come out of CBS in a long time. This is the only show during the strike that I made sure was TiVoed (on 2 tvs) so that I could watch during that. I will plan my Friday around that show. In fact I would not let my sister schedule her c-section at that time because of that show. I love this show. I love the cast & the storyline. Please do not remove this show.

This show is truly inspired… The chemistry between Mick, Josef, and beth incredibly mesmerizing.
There are very few shows I choose to watch anymore in this day of instant, regurgitated rubbish. So much has already been done… such lack of originality. This is a shining gem amongst the waste. Very entertaining with characters clearly chosen with thought, care, and foresight of the scintilating storylines to come. We are definitely left wanting more.

It may be a recycling of “Forever Knight.” But, it’s a well-done recycling! Or, at least, better done than Lifetime’s “Blood Ties.” If for no other reason than Mick Saint John was a plain old, 20-century working stiff at the time he got vampirized. Not a 13th-century Belgian aristocrat, or the “love-child” of a 15th-century British monarch.
And, he’s certainly proven that one doesn’t have to be nobly-born to do noble things!

BRAVO CBS you have produced a show that is totally worth watching and become such a phenomenon that the fan base ranges all over the world.
Moreover, there are more people catching on by reading the blog pages and all the fan websites.
You have actually had a breakthrough on what is enjoyable to watch. Before Moonlight, I would watch Ghost Whisperer and then flick from station to station until Numb3rs came on. Not anymore!! You have made the lineup for Friday nights on CBS astral!!
In fact, I have found myself captivated by each show and find myself wondering what will happen next. I blog to all the different fan web pages of the show, but most importantly, discuss it with family out of state and their friends who are totally enthralled by this show. This show is for you even if you do not like vampires!!
Moonlight is the show that everyone is asking, “is it Friday yet?” Moreover, our Monday mornings are no longer lackluster, we gather around at work to talk about Moonlight. It has brought all of us co-worker?s and the attorney?s I work with closer together. It actually has lifted morale of our office with excitement and enthusiasm. CBS you have brought families miles apart and their friends in constant contact and brought an entire office together. You actually have a show so entertaining and powerful that speaks louder than words can express.
CBS? fan base expands the world with this one show. Moreover, the people want it on for a long time.
I know the script is what brought so many good film actors to participate in this television show, and I am so grateful that they did. The changes this series brings to the vampire myths have allowed the lighting to be bright, not always oppressive and dark. The mood is also able to be brighter. The dialogue is sophisticated with humor and quips in addition to drama, and sexuality. The music choices are also excellent and perfectly placed.
Alex O’Loughlin as Mick is the new favorite to watch and is completely gorgeous in addition to being very talented. I enjoy watching someone who can be so expressive with his face, not just words. Alex excels at it. His versatility as an actor is unsurpassed by any of the actors on other shows/movies. The chemistry is sizzling and the amazing acting allows the characters to portray so much without saying a word. The actors are all so expressive that they can speak volumes without ever saying a word and they all have such an amazing working chemistry together
I will follow his career as I am sure it will go far. Sophia and Jason are simply awesome actors! It is the best new show in a long time. The cast are phenomenal, not to mention HOT! The dialogue and snappy comebacks are so entertaining. This show IS THE BEST. . The writing is wonderful and the scripts are full of sarcastic humor and witty one-liners. The set, wardrobe (Mick?s Henley T-shirts & turned up collar), music is the best. Moonlight is my personal #1 show, and I hope that we all continue seeing it for many seasons. It is supernaturally fun and s exy!
Great TV. CBS YOU OUTDONE YOURSELVES WITH THIS SHOW!!
THANK YOU CBS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO FIND A SHOW THAT IS SO WORTH OUR TIME.
One more thing, we are all hooked on Moonlight. I can hardly wait until this Friday April 25th. When the coming attraction/commercial came on as Mick St. John was walking the beach and said, ?So did you miss me.? It literally took my breath away and even my husband looked at me and said, alright.?
The phone started to ring, the emails from family and friends started coming ?Did you see the commercial…?
It would be a shame to loose such a large fan base of all ages due to the strike hiatus. If there?s one last plea it is obvious that we all have not forgot about Moonlight and that is why we are so in touch on the web pages during the hiatus anticipating its return.

Moonlight is an extremely engaging show. Alex O’Loughlin does a superb job. Quite honestly, shows like Big Brother, The Amazing Race, Survivor–suck. They had their moments and that’s it. Time’s up. People get tired of **** like that. Shows like Moonlight, Ghost Whisperer, Numbers, The Unit. Those are engaging, excited and informative to watch. Come on CBS, for years you have been behind ABC, NBC and sometimes even Fox (you should be embarassed about that) Step up your game and leave these good shows on.

I would not like to th ‘f’ word when I think about the management of TV networks, but what the hell are they doing. The cancel all the shows that I (and many others) like to present shows made for low IQ people. Oh… maybe they are in the category. And I am not only speaking of Moonlight and CBS, but NBC, FOCKs and others. The only keep the shows for desperately retarded.

For petes sake, stop stealing all of the good shows. Moonlight is one of the 3 reasons I watch CBS on Friday night. It is bold different and better than having another news show. Put Price is Right back on daytime, and give back the one thing people want. People want different and Moonlight is that, and gives me a reason to stay home on Friday nights.
Stop taking away the good stuff and replacing it with reality shows. We need some fiction in our lives from time to time
