October Road: ABC Cancels Bryan Greenberg Series, No Season Three
Word has come down that, after a less-than-impressive sophomore year in the ratings, ABC has decided to cancel October Road.
The news has been suspected for some time and was cinched by the network’s interest in the U.S. version of Life on Mars. Boston Legal’s creator, David E. Kelley, owns the rights to do a Mars series in the states. He had been committed to write and executive produce the series for ABC but recently decided to bow out. As a result, ABC execs have been hot to sign Road creators Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, and Scott Rosenberg to the new series. They’ve now closed the deal and sealed Road’s fate.
ABC had attempted to find another home for Road but were unsuccessful in finding a buyer.
All 19 produced episodes of October Road have aired. The series finale aired on March 10th but unfortunately didn’t offer viewers any closure. Will we ever know the identity of Sam’s father? Stay tuned!

I am very very distraut at the cancellation news. October Road was a great show with good writing and had a future until people seem to decide its fate who probably don’t even watch the show. Boston Legal has run its course and back and back and back; with not much of a future left….. If you were smart you would listen to the millions of people that watched the show and bring it back. Fox finally realized it and brought back Family Guy for God’s sake and that show stinks…….

October Road stands a far better chance surviving a 3rd season as some of the crazy shows that TV brass comes up with (re: Cavemen, etc). The writer’s strike had everyone a little confused as to what was new shows vs re-runs and I think TV viewing was down as a whole. October Road is a great show with a wonderful cast, and if it’s not given another chance to prove itself, I for one will NOT be watching any more serial type shows. Why get involved with a storyline, when it may just (poof) disappear and the viewers are left with no answers. At least a season finale could be aired that will give the LOYAL viewers some closure.

Still am in shock over the fact that Ocotober Road was cancelled. The one show on that people could relate to was cancelled , go figure.
But we are still fighting, three months after the season finale and we are not giving up. ABC needs to know that they made a HUGE mistake,
They need to bring this show back.
NO MORE REALITY SHOWS!!!!

How do you expect a NEW show to do well when you don’t keep it consistant? Ocotober Road was a GREAT show! It only had 19 episodes in 2 seasons. The average season is 22! Not to mention the huge hiatus after the first few epsiodes and the writers strike. I don’t think it was given a fair chance. If you go to Savemyshow.com, October Road was one of, if not THE, highest voted show to keep. How much could giving it ONE more REAL season hurt? And if you won’t give all the loyal viewers/fans that, you should AT LEAST give a 2-hour REAL finale. What will 15 minutes do? I know it’s better than nothing but I think the cast deserves it just as much as we do to have a little more than closure.

I hope the CW picks this show up……..it would be worth it for them to do so!! Everyone should write to the CW and ask them to do it…..
Well what are you waiting for?? Start writing!!!

why cancel a show without closure and you expect people to continue to tune into your station and watch new shows why waste my time well abc is off my list!!! wont even continue to watch dancing with the stars lets just keep shows like greys anatomy that isn’t even what real life is like on just because your not the most popular doesn’t mean that you aren’t liked do a real survey I’ll bet you’ll see that people do want it back.

It sucks that October Road was canceled. I looked forward every week to watching the show. I just can’t believe it!!!!!!!!!

It’s BS that The Road isn’t coming back. We have unanswered questions and it is a great show. There is too much reality and other **** on T.V. I know many people who watch and have road chats the next day. ABC should give it a chance. Sometimes ratings don’t mean everything. Oh and Nick and Eddie are HOT!!!!

There are so few shows on television right now that center around people who are just like me: mid to late twenties, living back in their hometown, and trying to make it all work. Not all of us can live in huge apartments in NYC and live that type of life a’la “Friends.” Not all of us can be sex starved doctors a’la “Grey’s Anatomy.” It is so refreshing to watch a show about people like ME. It is so frustrating these networks are so driven by money and have forgotten about delivering quality programming.
Shame on you, ABC. I hope another network picks up October Road and it is a smashing success. It would serve ABC right.

I cant believe that this show has been canceled there goes another family show that was good. there is nothing on t.v. to watch except for stupid reality shows and I hate theme so I guess I will be renting DVD’s for now on.

May 30th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I agree about October Road! This is an amazing show and we are left with no closure. It seems as though they do this alot…a good, no great, no amazing, no fabulous show comes on and they take it away. Please bring us just 6 more episodes to prove that the ratings will skyrocket! Long Live October Road!

this isnt funny at all, we love october road, i say we boycott ABC until they bring back the ridge

Who is doing the canceling? If your not listening to the viewers then shut down the whole network.. It’s like telling a joke with no punch - line. They left us all hanging after we bonded with the charactors and people were talking everywhere about the show, anxious to see the next episode, Poof! gone, and no news flash for all the loyal viewers. What a shame.. Get out of the business if you can’t stick it out who ever makes the rules here really stinks.
This was a great show with a fantastic cast.
