Shark: CBS Gives James Woods Series the Hook — No Season Three
CBS has decided to cancel Shark after two seasons on the air. What killed the series?
Shark debuted on September 21, 2006 and stars James Woods as Sebastian “Shark” Stark, an arrogant and cutthroat prosecutor. The TV show did pretty well in its first season on CBS. It ranked 24th for the season with an average of 13.7 million viewers. The one downside was that the show’s viewers tended to skew older. But, in a season littered with prematurely cancelled drama series (Smith, 3 lbs., The Nine, etc.), the show’s ranking and survival was an impressive achievement. The series was renewed for a second season.
Season two kicked off on Sunday, September 23, 2007. In that 10pm timeslot, Shark had to compete against ABC’s popular Brothers & Sisters and consistently lost in total viewers and the all-important 18-49 demographic.
Like most shows, Shark’s production schedule was interrupted by the writers strike. When the strike was over, production resumed and four more episodes were created. After a long absence, new episodes began airing in late April. In the show’s new Tuesday night timeslot, it was easily beaten by ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen in both total and 18-49 viewers.
The show’s chances for a third year were still up in the air until just recently. Ultimately, the combination of Shark’s inability to attract younger viewers, the writers strike, and CBS’ excitement over its new dramas is likely what led the network to cancel the series.
Woods tells the LA Times that the cast and crew were “very saddened” by the news but were trying to stay positive. He continues, “We’re a little baffled by the decision but we’re very supportive… None of us can figure out quite why. But we have no bad feelings. This show did an enormous amount for me personally. We all won doing the show.”
The current season, cut short by the writers strike, is made up of only 16 episodes. Shark’s series finale is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th. It’s unlikely that the episode will offer any kind of closure for the series. Stay tuned!

An absolute joke. I am 18 from ireland and was disgusted to see the show missing from the saturday night schedule…very sad day for me to find this out…:(
saturdays wont be the same for me….
October 10th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I’m 44 and my wife is 27 and we loved the show. Woods was at his absolute best. When it started it was in a great time-slot with little or no competition and had it been left there it may have survived. We anticipated the show every week but lost track of it as it moved to different days. Its a shame CBS decided to put a new show up against long standing well established shows. This only ensured its failure. My wife and I hope that Woods will eventually get cast in another similar role in the near future.
October 8th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I have to say that I had forgotten about Shark until I read it was canceled, of course I said “oh yeah” but I did watch it and it was a good show.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
CBS really does neet to get their act together, James Woods was intense, and i am not a fan of his , he kind of scared me growing up as a child waching him on tv. . He played every show as intense as if he was fil\ming a motion picture. the show it self was great . How could they take it off the air.
October 6th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
I absolutely adored Shark. They put some shows on this season that are ridiculous. Bring it back on the air, Please. CBS really needs to get their act together and know which shows are great and ones that are not.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
What a bad deal……we are under 50 an wouldn’t think of missing an episode. I am surprised at the short mined thinking of the network execs on this one……..
October 4th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
It’s really sad that Shark got cancelled because of the lack of “18-49″ year olds watching it. Problem is, these kids are too busy with the next episode of Jackass, and Kenny vs Spenny to catch the important messages in Shark.
It’s thier loss. They can’t be bothered to put the bong down long enough to understand real life. Instead “Brothers and Sisters” gets prolonged.
This show should have stayed in the previous time slot, and catered to the refined adults, as opposed to brain-dead morons currently taking up the “18-49″ year old demograghic.
October 4th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I am very saddened that Shark was cancelled. It was a great show and we looked forward to watching it every week. James Woods and the rest of the cast were wonderful. It will be greatly missed and I do wish that someone else would pick it up and bring it back. Why is it that all the good shows get cancelled. I don’t think you people know what you are doing. You are losing out.
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Shark was a show that will be sorely missed. I can’t understand the networks taking it off the schedule.
September 30th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
I just found out that it was cancelled =(
September 29th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I just read ALL the blogs regarding the Shark, and not one of them were for the cancellation. Granted, 100 blogs isn’t a great many, but a lot of them were like me and didn’t hear of the cancellation till around September. This is a travesty!. James Woods is one of the finest character actors in the business!. Frankly, I’m getting so sick and tired of watching Jeff Probst snuff out candles, I could just puke. Bring back the good shows. Bring back the Shark!
September 29th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
I am really going to miss this show! Especially Jeri Ryan in her sexy skirt suits.
September 29th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I think this is a bunch of ****! One of the best of its’ type and it’s cancelled? Gimme a break! It’s hard to get a cast together that clicks like the Shark cast. Woods was superb. The stories were a combination of great detective stories with a good bit of serious issues that grabbed your heart. Dancing with the stars will be a flash in the pan and then what? BRING BACK THE SHARK!
September 28th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
My husband and i are SO very UPSET!!! I am 29 and he is 35 and we loved it…. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!! I could hardly get him to sit on the couch and watch anything with me… and when i finally did all he did was complain about it. this was the only show he would sit and watch with out complaining about how retarded it was!!!
September 28th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
I would ask anyone who cares, to go to the #4 post (from May 19th 2008) on this thread, click on the link, and send an email to CBS, telling them that we want Shark to return!!!!!
I just did that, and also included the link to this thread, so they can see for themselves what’s being said.
Maybe with some effort, and just a bit of luck, we’ll be successful!!!!!
September 28th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
SHARK is a great show. Someone needs to pick this show up. MUCH better than Survivor and a lot of the othercrap on TV these days. Bring SHARK back!!!
September 28th, 2008 at 8:18 am
BAD idea to cancel SHARK, CBS. Young viewers liked it - older viewers loved it. Bring it back and cancel SURVIVOR instead. Enough of the same old same old over and over.
September 27th, 2008 at 7:29 am
maybe if enough people speak up they will bring Shark back, like jericho. CBS, please bring shark back or sell it to USA, TBS, TNT, someone will pick this up.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I’m 29 and my wife is 37… We LOVED Shark, and so did two of my under-30 friends… They’re clueless as to demographics as well as what constitutes worthy programming!
September 25th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
I am VERY disappointed in CBS as a network right now! First news is released that Grissom is leaving CSI, we already know that Warrick is dead, so lets be honest, that show is pretty much over. But then come to find out that there is so refuge to be taken in watching the second best show on CBS… WHAT!?!?!??! NO SHARK!??!??! You’ve got to be kidding!?!?! Without Shark, and with the imminent death of CSI, which is the networks only saving grace… they had better just call it quits right now! Give the show to ABC; at least they have a fairly decent idea about what quality television really is! I once sang praise to CBS, but boy was I wrong!
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I can’t believe they took Shark off and left that sick series on that took it’s place during the strike!!!!!! Please Please reconsider!!!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
I agree with the previous comments. This was one of the only shows that I faithfully watched. Anytime you can get James Woods to be on television you can’t go wrong. This is another example of a network caving in to the famous “how many viewers” a show has but not how good the show is. It is really interesting that I never got a call to see if I was watching “Shark”. Another great show gets cancelled because the 18 to 49 mindless have no clue as to what good programs are. If it has no overt sex or violence it must not be any good.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:22 pm
What air head cancel shark? One of the few program’s I looked forward to watching. What are they going to give us?? another reality show.
September 21st, 2008 at 10:53 pm
I absolutely loved the show and the characters, I cannot believe CBS cancelled this show, Please bring the show back.
September 21st, 2008 at 7:40 pm
My fiance and I were on-line trying to figure out when shark was coming on… we were hooked on watching it every week… We cant believe they canceled it! We agree with Keith… We would trade in CSI for SHARK!!! I HATE CBS right now… They made a bad decision!
September 21st, 2008 at 10:33 am
You have got to be freakin’ kidding me…I loved this show…there is no way that this was a good decision.
I watch all the CSIs too…but would trade all three of them for Shark!! Come on…at least give it to another network…then you’ll see it’s value.
September 21st, 2008 at 10:03 am
Bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best programs! James Woods is the best!!!
September 20th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Another good show off the air while more reality **** stays on TV…..
September 18th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Can’t believe you cancelled Shark. My husband and I are in our late 50’s and absolutely loved this show. James Wood and the cast were great. It never fails when there is a good tv show out there it gets cancelled. You need to bring this show back!!!
September 18th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
shark cancelled?!
come on! i’m 19 and i love shark! but maybe this is only in spain…we love shark.
sad news…
September 14th, 2008 at 8:27 am
This absolutely SUCKS!!! There isn’t much to watch on televison, but if a show doesn’t seem to involve the main characters involved in lurid sex acts, taking drugs, or doing other thing that are unseeming the show get lost in the shuffle. I am so disappointed I can hardly think about it. Here I have been waiting all summer for Shark’s new season, only to find out there isn’t one.
September 13th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
What brilliant executive made the decision to cancel Shark? It was THE ONLY show I watched faithfully of all the series on TV. I looked forward to it every week. A really good show goes and the junk stays. Nice going.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:15 am
Very disappointing that “Shark” was canceled. James Woods is a wonderful actor and we were so lucky to have him in a tv series after all the films that he’s done. This must have been a real slap in the face for him. I too don’t understand why the under-50 generation needs so much consideration. The over-50 population in this country is large and hungry for quality tv. Like everyone I know, I am sick to death of reality shows. Many of them lack intelligence and creativity, as well as being crude and low class. We have become a country which reveres sensationalism rather than quality. “Cane” was also a very good show and many of us were sad to see it go. As usual, several of the new shows will fail and maybe eventually the tv execs will come to their senses and bring back some of the canceled series. I also hated seeing “Commander-in-Chief” canceled, and if it weren’t for “Mad Men” which is probably the best and smartest show on tv (”The West Wing” held that spot in my heart for many years), and one or two other shows, we’d have almost nothing to watch of any substance or quality. It’s like the difference between the Hollywood films, with all their vapid, over-the-top storylines or excessive violence vs. the independent films which are almost always quality films with intelligent stories and incredible acting. If the networks took a vote from the public before canceling shows, I think they would be amazed at the response to keep many of them going. Finally, years ago, “Cheers” was canceled, I believe. Viewers called and wrote in to the network, insisting that it be brought back — and it was. And it was put into a timeslot which allowed it to thrive. Maybe there’s still hope for “Shark” and “Cane.”
September 7th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I am so miffed (I’m trying to be PC about this) that they have cancelled Shark. There are a lot of us (over 45 years) that really enjoyed this show - I am certainly not a reality show watcher. Why do studios play around with the time slots for shows - they sure seem to make sure that the reality shows timeslots are not changed. Why can’t they do the same for quality shows like “Shark”?
September 4th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I totally loved “Shark” also., and never missed a show…never took any phone calls during it either! James Woods is fabulous in anything he does, and was superb in this. Everyone in the show did a great job. There’s hardly anything good on with any substance, and it is EXCEEDINGLY disappointing “Shark” will not be back on.
Hope you get to keep working, James Wood, in something you like!! We’ll miss you terribly.
September 4th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Shark was great. It was nice to see James Woods on the screen again. I really enjoyed the series and the story. I wish CBS would give their heads a shake. Who cares about reality TV and isn’t even reality. If any other networks read this it would be foolish not to pick up the show again. For the amount of money TV executives are paid you would figure it would come with some form if intelligence. FYI CBS the younger viewers are not the ones paying to watch your network, we are!
September 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 am
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! To say that I am disappointed that Shark has been cancelled is putting it mildly. I am FURIOUS!!!!!!! With all the reality **** on tv I was glad to finally find a show with substance. I never missed an episode and was never disappointed or let down by the plots or story lines. James Woods is a great actor and only he could carry this role. SHAME on you CBS for cancelling this show. They say that hindsight is 20/20 and I hope that you realize this before another network picks up this awesome show.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I am just extremely disappointed that CBS took Shark off the air. With the number of stupid shows like, Worst Week, there are those of use who enjoy real acting from seasoned actors such as James Wood. The role he played in this series could only have been played by James Woods.
May one of the cable channels like USA or TNT could pick up the show.
August 20th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I must say after only noticing this show when advertised on uk tv, i searched for more info. From the start i was hooked. I think James Woods is excellent in this tv show. I’m 30 years old and never thought about the being a lawyer, after getting so infrawled in this show it really makes me think.
This show really has entertained me, i’m sad and disapointed to only see it last for just short of 2 seasons.
The wrighters strike has really caused why to much damage now.
Just like to thank james woods for an excellent 2 years.
August 19th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I have to agree that this is just awful, I was so looking forward to it!!!! The **** on tv these days isn’t worth watching. I’m fed up with reality tv and have no interest in watching it! Shark, Jerico and yes House will probably go next….and now that I find “The Cleaner” with Benjamin Pratt a good watch they can’t possibly keep it going- no one gets killed, there is no blood and guts, heaven forbid! It’s all about the more gruesome and gory and compettive and step on everyone else to win in this me me me me world which is of course geared towards the younger demographic- it’s scary where it will all end up. Here’s hoping something worthwhile comes along……… I LOVED James Woods. He was awesome…. although I have to admit the cast wasn’t very ‘dynamic’, well except for is it Jerri Ryan? She rocks…. but it was kind of a one man show- even so IMO he gave a stellar performance and I loved every episode.
August 17th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
wtf maaannn,,,every time i find a show that i can actually sit through, it gets canceled or they change the actors. how long before they throw “house” on the chopping block?guess we dont have enough reality garbage on tv, gotta make room for another. and wtf does age have to do with it?? are they saying that because more 50 yr olds than 20 yr olds watch it, its not worth showing? what kind of fck up **** is that???
August 13th, 2008 at 10:52 am
TV executives must have their eyes and ears closed when choosing programs. I am very disgusted with the shows that are aired presently. They are silly and ,most of all, stupid. When a good show is aired, such as Shark, without warning it is taken from the schedule. The same thing happened with the lawyer show starring Don Johnson..it was good…so it was discontinued. Reruns of MASH and Frazier are about the only viewing worthwhile.
August 6th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Shark was a great show! James Woods was at his best. What do we need to do to bring the show back??
August 4th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
One of the best shows ever. Really saddened to see it cancelled. It seems the good ones never last.
August 4th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Just realised that Stark aired its last episode - we’re a bit behind in the UK. I can’t believe it, what can be going on. We just loved every episode. Are CBS crazy?!
August 3rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
The CBS Execs do not have a clue. Shark was the best show in their whole line up. Cane was also one of their best shows. I hope another network pick up Shark and Cane because both show were excellent. The CBS Execs are idiots.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:11 pm
2/8/08
I can’t believe that this show was cut!! From the 1st episode to the last I was hooked and I am in the 35 - 40 dem, my whole family including my kids thought it was one of the best shows on tv.
Bring back Shark
August 2nd, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Shark was a great show. I’d take it any day over any so called reality show. But then again, I represent the over 50 crowd, so I guess I don’t count.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:11 pm
I loved Shark!!! I am 16 so that BS that it didn’t attract young viewers!!!!!! I LOVED IT! I am so sad that it has been cancelled.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:06 pm
from the first episode are family was shark bitten,
we were addicted.
now we are very disappointed that it has gone off the air.
July 30th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
omg you delete this but keep crapy shows like dancing with the stars!
save that **** fit muchmusic,
this was a great show!!!
July 21st, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I absolutely loved Shark! It was brilliant!!! I am so sick and tired of shows programmed for the younger population! They are crappy, voyeuristic, stupid and ridiculous! But, since we’re in an “anything goes” society, what should we expect!?! With the huge number of over 50 folks, it would seem that this would be taken into consideration with network execs! We need to step up and let our voices be heard and NOW! TV is full of **** (says a lot about the younger generation doesn’t it?). Unbelievable! Perhaps a cable network will pick it up and save us older individuals from the pain of the current crop of shows to which we are exposed!
July 20th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
I am from the uk and watch this shows every episode. I cannot believe CBS have cancelled it. The actors and scripts are brilliant. James woods especially is a fantastic actor and no other actor could do this show like him. CBS you are total idiots for cancelling this show and i think you should strongly reconsider your decision, before another network finds out just how popular it is and snaps it up. Someone should start an online petition to SAVE SHARK. I would deffo sign it. All the best James and co. We all have our fingers crossed for you x
July 20th, 2008 at 9:11 am
I hardly ever watch TV… I watch Prison Break, not because it’s a good show anymore, but I got sucked in, in the first season and now I’ve got to stick it out til the end. Shark on the other hand is a high quality program and it saddens me that it has been canceled. It was one of the two things shows I watched every week. Soon enough I’ll never even watch TV. I guess that isn’t too much of a bad thing if all thats on there is this reality ****.
July 18th, 2008 at 7:43 am
The networks continue to cancel the only few good shows that were worth watching. The rest is just ****! I gave up watching local network programs for PPV or rental movies.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I am 61 yrs. old. I am not in the 18-49 yr group and love and miss shark. my husband was shocked that it was cancelled.
most shows on tv today stink. james woods is a fantantic actor. the new upcoming actors/actresses have no talent. put him in another time slot.
what is wrong with tv today?
July 12th, 2008 at 11:08 am
I love(d) this show! I watch the reruns whenever they come on. The network really has to bring it back. I’m so sick of seeing th bachelors/bachelorettes try to find ‘love’ on tv (lazy ********, go out and date like regular people!), stupid beautiful people and ugly nerdy people try to become a couple, or people trying to survive on an island by eating only bugs… I’m so sick of the **** that’s on TV nowadays! Shark was awesome!!! I’m 24, and I know that we’d only make not even a dent on the amount of viewers that watched the show, but my husband and our friends and me would all gather and watch that show together They are ridiculous for doing that… I will refuse to watch anything on CBS now until they bring back a Shark-esque type series that starred James Woods dammit! Stupid network monkeys!
July 9th, 2008 at 8:08 am
Enough with the REALITY SHOWS and bring back shows with content. Shark was a show that appealed to the over 30 crowd and then some even younger. James Woods is a great actor and the rest of the crew was as well exceptional. CBS might want to rethink their decision, as this show will be sadly missed by many. There are few good shows to choose from and if you are not a Reality show watcher you are in serious problems this season. BRING BACK SHARK!!!!! James we will miss you.
July 2nd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
What can I say? The Sharks have Killed the Shark!
TV Network sharks themselves have a history of not knowing what’s in their own best interest. Another great show gone in the bin.
June 28th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Give me back my Shark!!!!!
June 28th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
This was one of my favorite shows. Characters were great. Why do they cancel a show like this and leave one like “Dancing with the Stars?”
June 28th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
i can not believe this series is canceled !!!! probably the only show on TV that i made SURE ,that I watched !!!!! hopefully, someone will rethink this ?????
June 25th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Cancelling Shark is absolutely terrible. You have more CSI’s than anyone can deal with and you cancel Shark??? The one good show..besides Criminal Minds i watch faithfully. The writers of Shark were great! Drama & comedy! What a shame!
June 25th, 2008 at 11:40 am
I WAS SHOCKED TO SAY THE LEAST WHEN I HEARD THAT SHARK HAD BEEN CANCELLED! WHAT ARE THE BIG WIGS AT CBS THINKING? IM 35, IN THE AGE GROUP THAT THEIR TRYING TO ATTRACT. MY NEPHEW EVEN WATCHES IT AND HE’S 11! I HOPE ANOTHER NETWORK PICKS IT UP. OH I LIVE IN THE UK & SHARK IS A VERY POPULAR SHOW!
June 25th, 2008 at 11:01 am
How could you have cancelled Shark???? There are many other Time slots.
That show was absolutely GREAT!! That was the only show I REALLY looked forward to on CBS!!
You should have put it on MONDAY NIGHTS @ 10.
Yes in place of CSI Miami….and no comment
June 23rd, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I’m so disapointed you canceled Shark. My husband and I loved it, it’s your problem it’s on at the wrong day. Try following Survivor, we watch that too.
Sunday night was a bad time slot right after the strike. It took us 2 weeks to even find
it was on Sundays. Too many reality shows. We have a few we watch, but just because their cheaper dosen’t mean their entertaining buy the hundereds.
June 13th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
BAD move CBS. I too watched it since it started and followed it to each new night. I’m so saddended. I would have rather you ditched some of the other shows that leave me empty and bored. Shame on you!
June 8th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
This is horrible!!!! what the hellz was cbs thinking? inabliity to capture young viewers? im 18 now but i watched it since it came on and so did all three of my younger sibs. the youngest is 11 for godsakes!! i just bought the first season dvd too and ive been watching it over and over. I dont know about another network picking it up but that would be smart. The writing and filming was so excellent. casting was also perfect. even non james woods fans could get into it. its got jeri ryan for godsakes. all in all i dont understand in the slightest and i will truly miss the show.
June 7th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Once again a decent show comes on to watch and it gets cancelled. I followed it from the beginning and to each new night. I would love to talk to the person or persons who decide what shows get canned. Just because a show is not #1 does not mean a lot of people can’t enjoy it. James Woods is a great actor and well worth hanging on to. The rest of the cast was fantastic as well.
June 7th, 2008 at 6:17 am
What’s wrong with you people! Finally a good show like Shark that’s not reality **** and you cancel it. Some of us want to see entertainment and not a bunch of people eating bugs, picking out a mate because they can’t get a date in real life or idiots trying to be a one hit wonder. Wake up!!!
June 6th, 2008 at 7:43 am
I too am very upset that Shark has been canceled! It was also one of my favorite shows. I never missed an episode in both seasons. James Woods was really awesome as were all the actors. I don?t understand what happened. I too can’t stand some of the stupid reality shows. They are not worth the time or money it takes to make them. Some of the ridiculous reality shows like Survivor are just getting old and boring. I will truly miss the show as will many of my friends. I hope another network picks it up. They really would be smart to do so!
June 5th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
I can’t believe Shark has been cancelled! It was one of my favourite shows. My husband and I never missed an episode in both seasons. James Woods was awesome and all the actors were superb. I don’t understand what happened. I would much rather see a show like Shark on then some of the ridiculous reality shows like Survivor that are just getting old and boring. The same thing happened with Jericho. We will truly miss the show. Maybe another network will pick it up. They would be smart to do so!
June 4th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
I just don’t get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 These guys are idiots! There is nothing but trash on Friday and Saturday’s why not just air these great shows then??????????????? I know lots of peolpe who would watch them!
June 4th, 2008 at 1:32 am
I’m sad. I was just watching the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and he mentioned CBS cancelled Shark. I really wish these reality shows would cease and good old fashioned drama would return. CBS knows best how to make this work so I just don’t understand why they end up with great drama and cancel it! Glad to see the Unit back on this fall and wish we still had Jericho. Heaven forbit Criminal Minds, Numbers, Without A Trafce or either CSI Miami or CSI (las vegas) were to be cancelled. I love the “whodunit” drama. Still saddened to have Shark gone.
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Shark was a great show. My wife, 12-year-old son, and I watched it every week. I hope some other network picks it up. I’d love to see another season.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:58 pm
TV is changing for the worse. Its pretty sad when an actor like Mr.Woods and his amazing cast is taken off the air and **** reality shows are turning up on all networks.A huge loss to quality tv dramas. Will miss Shark .Whats next.CSI???
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:19 pm
I recently finished watching ‘Shark’ Season 1 on the DVD boxset I ordered from Amazon and was wondering why I just can’t track down Season 2, which eventually lead me to this cancellation news. I don’t watch tv and don’t have a tv for the matter, but I couldn’t resist myself getting a DVD boxset after seeing the first episode, where James Woods’s presence was highly appreciated. Again.
I was fascinated by this guy and began ordering his movies from Amazon then comes along this disappointing news- I hope some other station is smart enough to pick this series and continue to truly entertain many audiences out there.

ill be looking for revenge, what do they think, that we are all stupids? im going to start an anticbs campaign, this isnt right they shouldnt be able to play with people like this and those kind of abuses cant be left unpunished. i truly hate cbs executives theyve been doing this kind of thing for too long now.

I just found out this afternoon that Shark has been cancelled. What a HUGE mistake. I’m not sure how they get all their stats but I have a 20 yr, 22 yr old , 16 yr old and all of their friends ALL love shark! I’m only 42 and my husband is 47 and we both don’t miss an episode. Hopefully one of the cable channels will see the error in CBS’s way and pick up the series. I was shocked when I found out VEGAS was cancelled as well. There are some fantastic opportunities out there for cable tv if they will jump on them. Believe me, audiences are wearing thin with reality tv. I watch tv to escape reality. I love comedy and drama but could care less about Denise Richards, People destroying their marriages to win a million dollars on a tell all game show or the other stupid ideas we have been subjected to as of late. Creativity is in the toilet anymore. Heck, most of the time all this generation does is copy my generation and REMAKE our stuff. GET AN IMAGINATION!

I cannot believe Shark has been cancelled. I thought it was one of the better shows on TV. James Woods is a wonderful actor and deserves more than being dumbed by CBS. I hope another station has the “smarts” to pick it up. I have no interest in the reality shows that are on.

I live in Greece and have been watching shark on cable tv. I was looking forward to the new season and just now i read that it’s been canceled. Oh no, it’s a fantastic series, i love James Woods and all the cast is great, why cancel it ???? Give it some time and I’m sure the “precious” ratings will increase . All my Greek friends loved Shark as much as Law and Order, its not fair, other garbage airs prime time and we’re sick of these shows……..

I was disappointed to see one of my favorite shows cancelled. I do hope that the powers to be decide to re-evaluate their decision. The cast was great and it seemed like the enjoyed being with each other. I do hope that we all get to see some more of “Shark” tv series. This year was not very fair to any show with the writer’s strike going on - that was a mark against each one. I had each one of the Shark episodes taped so that I could watch it over during the week. Thanks for listening.

I was really disappointed to hear of this show’s cancellation. I’m going to purchase the DVD’s to watch. I don’t understand it! I missed it when it came back on because CBS kept changing the day!! I was the only show I never missed and the only time I tuned into CBS. Someone in corporate has made an error.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:54 am
The major networks are chasing thinking people to the History and Discovery Channels. As it was stated by others, networks are putting out mindless and non-thinking shows that are pure ****! Wake up people, the market the networks are going after is our future learders! We should be scared!
May 27th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Wow… Shark was just awesome, he made the show absolutely jump!; smart, witty, clever as only he can deliver. Guess that ain’t good enough anymore. I will bill CBS for my therapy
May 27th, 2008 at 9:12 am
CBS is stupid to cancel the show. I would be willing to pay $10 per episode to download the show, so come on CBS! This is the best show I have ever watched.
May 27th, 2008 at 1:39 am
I LOVE THIS SHOW AND WHEN I READ IT HAD BEEN CANCELLED I COULD’NT BELIEVE IT! GREAT STORIES, GREAT ACTORS, WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT? ALSO MOONLIGHT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. TWO OF MY FAVE SHOWS WILL BE NO MORE.
May 26th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
I am truly saddened by the cancellation of this show. It was one of the best shows that I can remember in my 54 years of watching tv. I guess I’ll just have to watch the “stars dancing”. How sad!!
May 25th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
I have to agree with all of the previous comments about the demise of Shark. I am so sick of all the trash and stupid garbage on TV now - so it was great to have this terrific show with a wonderful cast headed by the amazing award winning actor James Woods. The execs at CBS are truly idiots for not renewing this program. I wish that they would rethink their decision. Shark would only continue to get better with time as it did over the last 2 years.

I am saddened to hear that ‘Shark’ will be cancelled. This is one of my favorite shows. Its a witty show that allows James Woods to show his great acting and comedic talent. I will greatly miss this show!

I agree with Ruth. Many good shows are getting the boot while reality trash monopolizes the prime-time time slots.
I understand that television is a buisness, and that reality shows are inexpensive to produce, and are therefore, all proffit for the networks. But for Vader’s sake! Why the hell would these moronic execs take out good shows when there are pleanty of cookie-cutter dramas and sit-coms that could die.
The problem here is people are just dumb. I’m not being mean. It’s just true. People don’t like television that challenges them or makes them think. That’s why reality television still exists. There was a brief period of time when television started to look up with more intelectual dramas like Cane and Studio 60. But leave it to the networks to cancel them because America doesn’t want to watch anything that makes them talk, debate, or, God forbid, think.
If people refuse to watch the reality garbage that appears every 30 minutes every night on one of the four major channels and across all of the hundreds and hundreds of cable networks, studios will get the idea and start record GOOD shows again.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 am
CBS has messed with way too many shows that we enjoyed–starting with Cane and now cancelling Shark and Moonlight. Give me a break! My family and I loved these shows. I cannot believe that the reality shows are still on. They are garbage and the really good shows are cancelled. I’ll be watching other shows like American Idol, etc.
May 22nd, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Why does CBS & FOX Always have to cancel the good shows and leave the ones that suck on the air. Way to go CBS with yet another screw one but I guess you have to keep up with FOX on which company is the biggest screw up in history.
May 22nd, 2008 at 4:46 pm
NOT SHARK!!!
Man is there anything we can do to have them change there minds??
CBS is REALLY MESSING UP!!
May 22nd, 2008 at 12:04 pm
A briljant show, great cast and good story’s, some things a lot of shows don’t have! And yet this great show is being cancelled . Unbelieveble.
May 22nd, 2008 at 9:27 am
I GUESS PEOPLE OVER 49 DON’T COUNT. WELL, CBS FEELS 18-49 WILL SUPPORT THEIR SPONSORS AND WE ARE DOOMED TO GAY HAS BEEN CELEBRITIES WITH NO TALENT, AMAZING DOGS, CHRISTINE(!!! I’M SURE EVERY 18-49 IS WATCHING THAT) AND EVERY FREAKIN CSI CITY ON THE PLANET.
CBS IS LUCKY TO HAVE A SEASONED, TALENTED AND PERFECTLY CAST ACTOR IN JAMES WOODS. THEY TOOK JERICHO, THE UNIT AND NOW SHARK. JERICHO AND SHARK HAD NO PERMANENT TIME SLOT DUE TO THE WRITERS STRIKE. THE UNIT DID AND WILL BE COMING BACK. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU, CBS???????????? BRING THEM BACK, GIVE THEM A HOME AND THEY WILL PAY THE BILLS. GET SOME SEASONED PERSONNEL AT CBS AND GET RID OF THE KIDS.
May 21st, 2008 at 7:23 pm
The reason that shows like this get cancelled is that the 18-49 demographic is getting smarter, not dumber. They know that the empty suits at CBS, Fox, ABC, NBC, etc., will cancel anything of a high quality or that is enjoyed by people with an IQ, so they don’t bother to tune in. After all, why get involved in a show and invest timewise and emotionally in a show and the characters if you know that the show is doomed to cancellation as soon as the show fails to reach some magic number, when it is put against mindless (and dirt cheap to make) shows like American Idol, Hell’s Kitchen, etc. And the networks also refuse to actually build a viewership, so if a show isn’t a hit right away, off it goes.
As an example, I’d probably enjoy the new Joss Whedon show, Dollhouse, coming to Fox in the fall (or so), but I probably won’t watch it, because I know that Fox will cancel it within 6 episodes being aired. And I feel comfortable saying that before the first episode is even aired. After all, this is the same outfit that cancelled “Drive” after only airing 3 episodes.
Network Execs: If you want us to watch your shows, how about making us feel safe and secure that you won’t cancel all the good shows we want to watch, and keep the crappy ones we don’t want to watch. Maybe a different ratings system needs to be created for unscripted shows, so that the quality programming ratings are not mis-judged against the ratings of those of the insanely popular but mentally unchallenging fare that passes for television these days.
May 21st, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Shark was always a great show, and I’ll miss it a lot. James Woods is a great actor, and Shark was a wonderful character for him. All I can hope for is repeats.
May 21st, 2008 at 6:19 pm
I can’t believe the show is being cancelled. I am 14 and I watch the show, they said the younger audiance isin’t attracted but I really like the show. James Woods is a great actor, and he’s not the bad guy this time! Ha, I am going to miss this show.
May 21st, 2008 at 3:17 pm
This was a quality show which, unlike many, actually could be counted on to be reasonably accurate most of the time. Maybe it will be picked up by FOX or one of the DISH or cable stations. I thought it was exceptional, and I am pretty hard to please. Maybe that was its problem: it wasn’t stupid enough for the average viewer!
May 21st, 2008 at 11:19 am
Send CBS Shark Teeth, millions of them !!! Hey if they brought back Jericho for a 2nd chance with only 7.7 million viewers for its Season 1 finale, then surely Shark at 10.5 million for its finale deserves a 2nd chance.

I am sad to hear that shark has been cancelled. I was really getting into the show since last season. I liked that they paired up Jeri Ryan on the show with James Woods. There was some great chemistry with the both of them, fighting between each other. I also liked the plot and stories they had put together. I was surprised to see that it was the series finale. I know ratings are very important but at least we should have a little more closure to the series. I really enjoyed last night’s episode with the serial killer and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I am 25 and prefer these type of shows aka Shark over the stupid reality shows that have sex and other things which we prefer to not watch. At least I don’t. In any case, sorry also to hear about James’ Woods brother. Sorry for his loss. I will buy both seasons on DVD though, I will miss this show very much. It would be nice to have a little more closure though for the series. I am bummed that this show will no longer be on any more.

I am saddened that CBS is going to cancel Shark - I just watched the finale and it was the best ever! James Woods is an excellent actor and he had me in tears! I watch Shark religiously every week whether they are reruns or not and I am not in the older age group - I am 46 years old and just think that the show is one of the best - James Woods shines
May 20th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
I can not believe Shark is ending! I am very upset. I never miss an episode. Now what are you going to replace it with another Reality Show? Please change your mind. We learn more from this series than any of the shows.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:56 am
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH CBS? WHY WOULD THEY CANCEL A GREAT SHOW LIKE SHARK? WHY WILL THEY KILL OFF MAIN CHARACTERS LIKE WARRICK BROWN OF CSI? ARE YOU PEOPLE NUTS? WHY WOULD YOU CANCEL ANY SHOW THAT HAS WONDERFUL ACTORS AND RATINGS? I DON’T UNDERSTAND YOUR THINKING…YOU ARE MESSING WITH SOMETHING THAT WORKS…YOU KNOW THE “OLD” SAYING…”DON’T FIX IT IF IT ISN’T BROKEN!”
May 20th, 2008 at 7:17 am
I AM SO UPSET THAT THEY ARE CANCELING SHARK CBS IS LETTING GO ONE OF THE BEST TV SHOW THEY HAVE ON AIR TODAY I THINK THEY WERE LUCKY TO HAVE JAMES WOOD DOING A TV SHOW BUT THEY ARE TO DUMB TO RELIZE IT I THINK THEY SHOULD RECONSIDER THERE CANCELING THIS SHOW
May 19th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
I am 24 and I dont miss an episode. I love shark. i am saddened to see it go. It is well thought out and complex. I thought when his license got reinstated it would be ok. My husband told me that I was wrong… Guess he was right
May 19th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I am so disgusted over the cancellation of so many quality shows this season. “Shark” is one of the best, and James Woods is an actor of such depth, that I was surprised he was even doing a TV show. Guess you have to be a mindless twit, who is entertained by the likes of “Big Brother, which is nothing
more than a bunch of air heads getting it off on prime time; and the “Bachelor” which is a pathetic illustration of how shallow our youth is becomming. “Woman’s Murder Club” is also an extremely good show, based on a great book series by an outstanding Author. Guess most of CBS’s viewers don’t read or think that much.

Their cancelling all the good shows, Crossing Jordan, Vegas, Shark, Women?s Murder Club, Wildfire, 7th Heaven?what is up? Keeping shows like the bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother, and the Donald Trump show, The Amazing Race, give me a break all of the networks suck!!!! Do you have to be a ?Reality Show? freak to find something good to watch? ABC, CBS and NBC need to wake up and smell the coffee!!! Younger people are not sitting in front of the TV, they are out with their friends. It?s the older generation that sits on the couch and watches TV. Stop cancelling all the good shows and get rid of all of the reality ****!!!!!!
May 18th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Love this show, one of the few series I buy the DVD boxsets for. Hate to see it go. =(
May 16th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
CBS is “dumbing down the network”. They say they are going for “character driven dramas”. What do they think “Shark” was. James Woods is the definition of a “Character” driven dramatic actor. He is smart, witty, and challenging. Too much for the network to follow? I missed the 18-49 demographics by 1 year, but I think younger, (18-49ers) could use more intellegent, creative, well written shows, like “Shark” and less mindless reality based non-stimulating fluff. All the shows I watch have been canceled…”Shark, Moonlight, Woman’s Murder Club, and New Amsterdam”. I’m very disappointed in the network’s decissions. Who’s running the network anyway, 18-25 year olds. Even my 9 year old, 3rd grader is reading on a 6 to 8th grade level. Try challenging your viewing level a little.
