The Dead Zone: USA Series Cancelled, No Season Seven
![]()
On the previous episode of The Dead Zone, Johnny (Anthony Michael Hall) and his son JJ (Connor Price) were having new visions of Armageddon. Apparently the end was closer than they knew.
After six seasons, USA Networks has chosen to cancel the science-fiction series. Coincidentally, Dead Zone’s last episode aired on the same night as The 4400’s which has also been cancelled. It was suspected that time was running out on both series as they’ve both been on the air for several seasons and have grown more expensive. USA reportedly searched for ways to cut costs so the shows could be renewed but they ultimately decided to pull the plug.
Of the two cancellations, USA exec Jeff Wachtel said, “We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it’s with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable.”
There’s been no word of any plans to bring the series’ unresolved storylines to a close. Stay tuned!

Why not compromise and do a made-for-tv movie, like scifi did for Farscape fans? I swore up and down I would NEVER get involved in another scifi series, because they so uncerimoniously pulled the plug on it. I didn’t even know it was cancelled - there’s such big gaps between “seasons” on cable. But scifi did the right thing and summed up the series in a really good tv-movie, and I think something like that could be done here. Hows about THAT?

Please bring back the dead zone. I just loved that show and I had been looking forward to it each season. I know you need to have room for more CSI’s and other new shows but the dead zone was one of the best, I like House also, but the dead zone was mine and my husbands favorite this is one tv show my husband would watch.
Thanks
Gina

Skeezics says: Put the dead zone back on. It is my favorite program and thank you Mike for doing a wonderful job. Otherwise I plan to get rid of my TV as I don’t consider any other program equal to the Dead Zone.
October 12th, 2008 at 1:42 am
thanks, USA - your decision to cancel “Dead Zone” has solidified my decision to throw away my old t.v. set - “Smallville” is not compelling enough to justify clinging to this window to the wasteland
September 18th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
im very disappointed usa pulled the plug. i no longer watch that network.
September 6th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
USA might have time to air these two wonderful shows if they didn’t show a Law & Order every hour on the hour
August 28th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
It’s a real heartbreaker to hear that these two shows have been cancelled — they were among your best, USA. You should bring them back. I know I’m not alone when I say that I’ve lost two BIG reasons for watching USA. A shame.

Please…enough with those rediculous reality shows…give us some real entertainment. Watching TV stinks, commercials are getting longer and longer, too.
The Dead Zone was real entertainment. I’m only on Season Two on DVDs and now I find out it’s been cancelled! For God’s sake…PLEASE….don’t let them cancel DEXTER too!
July 3rd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Reality TV Sucks but it’s cheap to produce. No big stars to pay or special effects to create. I never though USA would crap out on us but looks like they followed the lead of the major networks. It’s not about what the viewers want, it’s all about how much money they can line their pockets with. I only watched 4 shows on USA. The Dead Zone The 4400,Monk and Psyche. I”m sure Monk and Psyche will be next as they cost money to produce and in my opinion are not as good at the 4400 or Dead Zone. Just wait nightly expisodes of Deal or New Deal repeats (the stupidest show on TV) are soon to make the USA line up.
June 22nd, 2008 at 9:18 am
TV has become a WASTELAND with these crappy reality shows. I’ve had it. From now on I’m turning off my TV and renting shows or movies from Netflix. At least I can rent decent stories and interesting programs. These stupid network executives! Every decent show I’ve gotten into has been cancelled (with the exception of Cold Case). I’m not watching TV anymore. And now I don’t have to deal with 7 commercials every 20 minutes either.
June 17th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Why? All I ask is why? You just stopped the greatest 2 shows on USA network and replaced them with all that reality garbage! And you stopped them without closure! You will lose all of your viewers, including me!
June 17th, 2008 at 6:55 am
I really look fwd to these shows all winter. I can’t believe they were both canceled. and that we were just left hanging….I can’t stand “REALITY” T.V. I have enogh reality in my life. Without these shows…I really don’t have any use for USA network. I really wish the network would reconsider!
June 12th, 2008 at 8:14 am
I think that ending Dead Zone without giving us any closure was wrong. I hate when they cancel a series without wrapping things up.
I hate reality shows and the Dead Zone was one of the few I watched. I loved Anthony Michael Hall in this. He was doing such a fabulous job! And, now we’ll never know what happened.
June 11th, 2008 at 6:33 am
no closure, and more shows no one will watch. BRING BACK THE DEAD ZONE for one more season….I am boycotting USA until they do so.
June 9th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
USA must have some really dumb people running the network. Dead Zone and The 4400 were the only two shows worth watching on USA. Other than the WWE I cant see anyone watching USA unless they run some older movie that has a high fan base. Just a completely dumb move on getting rid of the only two shows USA has had been worth watching for years now.
June 7th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
The Dead Zone is the best show TV has given us in recent years. I even rate it above Medium which I absolutely love. I own all of the DVD’s for every season and have shared them with many people. Needless to say, everyone that I have shared them with is hooked on the show and cannot believe that it is not coming back. I’m with everyone else … give us one more season for some closure!
June 5th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Please, bring back The Dead Zone. Please bring it back for one more season, so we can have some closure
May 31st, 2008 at 8:26 pm
This was such a great show the took thought, not like most shows with little or no substance. I loved this show. Looked forward to every episode.
May 29th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I am with the rest of you about them canceling the 4400 and the Dead Zone. We love the shows and now they are gone and incomplete with no closing. I hate those phony reality shows and therefore will not be tuning into USA network again unless they bring back these shows or new ones that do. I have stop watching the other public stations that show reality shows too. I have now plenty of time to do internet and watch dvd movies.

I am very dissappointed that you cancelled both shows (Dead Zone and 4400) especially without closure!!! One more season for each would have been just fine. You have lost quite a bit of viewers…I am one of them.
May 25th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
i am completely disappointed and disheartened that USA would cancel this show. i have followed several new shows - burn notice, psych, etc - it will be hard for me to return or continue to support the resurgence of this network because i feel they will pull the plug on everything when it gets good!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Johnny and sara just started getting good! How could you cancel your best show? You will regret it! A lot of fans will be disapointed, so much for usa
May 11th, 2008 at 1:37 am
Well once again the television are morons!!!! I guess this is our own private Armagedon! You know that the 4400 and Dead Zone night was the best on TV! This is just another way for reality shows and NBC to get into USA Network’s pants!!!
May 10th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
I am so pissed and upset that the show was canceled. I just had my husband rent all the old seasons so he could get into the show with me. If the show brought ratings back to the station they could at least wrap up the series with a seventh season. Don’t just leave the fans hangin thats messed up.
May 10th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Stories like Dead Zone that have a plot and anyone can get involved with characters and can’t wait to see how the next episode ties into it, is positive. This show should never have been canceled to make room for fluff shows that are silly and unreasonable. Show like this had thought and reason.
May 10th, 2008 at 4:19 am
I agree with others you always cancel good shows and then air reality shows that are stupid.. The Dead Zone is a great show.
May 8th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Cancel one of your gay shows I mean come on. Bring back the dead zone it was the best please.
May 3rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I wish the hacks that run our entertainment would at least respect us enough to wrap up their series’. Other countries seem to be content to do shows that have a predetermined end date, I say let’s give that a go.
May 1st, 2008 at 11:48 am
Im not disapointed that the show was cancelled ,I think it was about time !It used to be such a good show. The first 3 seasons were great ,then they kind of ran out of imagination and the story we got attached to quickly went all over the place ! They really lost my interest. It should of gotten cancelled earlier, before they started to run out of ideas . I remember one episode from season 6 about(horses)………wtf
April 21st, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Looks like more space for the networks to put on reality TV. I think i’m going to PUKE!!!!!
March 31st, 2008 at 1:02 am
Why do you always take off the good shows. Dead Zone should not have been cancelled. Please bring it back.
You leave on stupid shows, but take off the shows people really like.
March 16th, 2008 at 8:32 am
All the good shows have been cancelled without wrapping them up! At least Jericho is wrapping things , but I really enjoyed the show. I really liked Journeyman, but of course it was cancelled. I really lilked Invasion, but it left. I really liked Threshold, but cancelled without wrapping it up. It all sucks!!. I would love to get rid of all reality tv! It is horrible!! I am afraid to get hooked into a show because it gets cancelled!!. I would love it if the 4400 and Dead Zone would return to tie up loose ends. There were great shows!!
February 23rd, 2008 at 8:28 am
I can’t believe The Dead Zone was cancelled!!!! One of my favoritesThis is so unfair. Stop replaying all the reruns from House, and the Law and Orders and Give us at least one more season to wrap up the open story lines.
February 16th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
The Dead Zone was a great show. I won’t be watching any new series on USA, as execs there have proved that they can’t properly wrap up their series. Whomever is responsible for canceling this should be fired.
February 14th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Out of all the terrible shows on TV the idiots at USA Networks choose to cancel these two great shows! The only problem with these shows was the extremely long period of time between seasons. That makes it really hard to follow the story line. I’m sure they are going to replace them with some lame show(s).
February 14th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
In my humble opinion, Dead Zone was the best show on TV. It is a shame that one of the major networks didn’t produce it. It would be great if some way it could be picked up by one of the majors. They would already have an audience. Also 6 years of material that could be worked in some way. At least I have 6 seasons of DVDs. Thanks USA!
February 13th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
This is a big load of crap. I have watched dead zone from the first day it aired. I was so excited to here that they were going to make a series of my favorite book. All 6 seasons were great, but there is no end. If there is just one more season it could all be finished the right way. I think a movie wouldn’t be enough to finish. We need season 7 if not 10-15 episodes then 5-10. USA I will not watch anymore shows on your network because anything you put on you will cancel before a proper end to it. You guys care about money and not your viewers. In conclusion usa sucks.
February 7th, 2008 at 3:00 am
It sucks enough to have every good show cancelled to make way for more crap but atleast have the decency to wrap the series up in the end! I’m sure it would boost dvd sales if the storylines actually reached solid conclusions! If you’re going to cancel it, finish it!
February 6th, 2008 at 1:11 am
I agree with Chris. The Dead Zone story was clearly not over, and in fact was only ramping back onto the Stilson-and-Armageddon storyline. Just one more season to focus on and tie off that long-running backbone of the Dead Zone storyline would have made for a much nicer completion of the series, and left a rather large number of Dead Zone fans a much happier group.
And cutting off also-popular and much-publicized The 4400 before it’s gotten anywhere near wrapping up all of the many plotlines that were clearly forming and intertwining…
One has to wonder if any new program that USA Network puts out will be worth bothering to watch, given this recent history of abandoning successful and popular programs without giving them and their viewers the basic respect of a remotely satisfying ending.
I hope that USA is considering some form of wrapping up these programs — another season, TV movies, something — but so far I’m not seeing it. Anyone?
February 5th, 2008 at 1:22 am
I was way into this show. I’m saddened to hear of the cancellation. I hope they at least bring a resolution to Denoument. Ultimately I would love to see this gem return. Sarah Johnny and JJ you will be missed.
February 3rd, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I am extremely upset to hear The Dead Zone is cancelled. I have faithfully watched The Dead Zone since day 1 and now they are not even going to have the decency to give us a series finale!! That is awful! USA network, you think your ratings are going to go up, think again! I will not watch your network ever again and I am sure a lot of others agree with me.
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
This is just stupid. Thaes were the only shows that got me to watch the network. TV is getting worse every year.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
This is a disgrace, not only to the entire team of The Dead Zone, but also to the fans. It is sad knowing that the television studios need an audience to keep them going, then they just cut us off. the USA Network, very, very tacky.
January 14th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
I am so unbelievably saddened at this news. I’ve been over and over my Tivo’d episodes of Season 6, patiently waiting for Season 7 of TDZ, and what?? No Season 7?? The reasons for cancelling “to give other series room to grow” is just ridiculous. This show has a HUGE fan base. We deserve better than this. VI am very disappointed and for now, I have no use for the USA network — AT ALL.
January 13th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I hearby nominate USA Network for a Darwin Award due to astoundingly stupid judgment.
I hear their new series is going to be a reality based show that follows the lives of 5 girls and asks the important question: Who’s breast implants are better????
January 9th, 2008 at 6:31 am
I am an extreme fan of both of these shows (I have never missed even one episode of either show, and have actually sucked in several friends too) and am SOOOO upset that USA just cancelled the shows with no ending, no warning, no anything! I can tell you right now that I will not be watching any further shows on USA just because of this reason. Why get involved in a show that they are just going to end up cancelling whenever they feel like it, and leaving fans hanging with no closure! USA stinks!
January 8th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Today is January 8, 2008 and I did a search for when the new seasons of The Dead Zone and The 4400 start…
@$#)(&* Stupid idiots @ USA…you have got to be kidding me…say “goodbye to two shows that helped create the resurgence of original programming on your network and all of cable”…like this will inspire me to continue to watch anything on USA if I’m not going to get some kind of wrap on a show love to watch…which by the way I loved to watch both of these…heck that mentality is precisely (#)$*& what ticks me off the most with TV Execs. Well I like to watch Monk & Burn Notice but I’m tired of the Execs thinking my loyalty doesn’t count…heck I watched and recorded to view later both of these shows. I’m ready to say just forget TV shows…news, weather, mindless game shows and MOVIES only! Hummm…that means I’ll be watching very little of USA Network from now on!!! I’m glad you “feel the need to give some of your new shows a platform to grow” ’cause as you can tell my interest in your shows won’t be growning. (period)
January 4th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
They should not have killed off popular character Walt. Story lines began to be predictable. Too bad. Good show that probably jumped the shark earlier than it had too.
January 3rd, 2008 at 4:07 pm
I really dont belive this , you should at least do a season 7 and end it proply not living us all hanging we you can not leave it how season 6 ended we need season 7

I loved Dead Zone and 4400. I can’t believe they’re cancelled. That makes no sense. When you see the unintelligent junk being aired, these shows were an oasis of viewing. Bring them back at least one more season to resolve their storylines!
