This David E. Kelley spin-off of The Practice revolves around the staff of Boston-based legal firm Crane, Poole & Schmidt. The series mixes comedy and drama with social issues while the characters continually push the boundaries of the law. Attorney Alan Shore (James Spader) is the star litigator of the series and shares a special friendship with eccentric senior partner Denny Crane (William Shatner). The pair’s antics frequently frustrate fellow partners Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen) and Paul Lewiston (Rene Auberjonois).
