Without the permission of his single mom, 16-year-old Pete Young (Jeremy Sumpter) applies for and lands his dream job as a batboy for the New York Empires. Up until now, Pete’s always been the golden boy while his rebellious older sister, Betsy (Kirsten Storms), is usually in the doghouse with their mother Lynne (Mare Winningham).
On the job, he becomes a part of a new family that includes star third baseman Conrad Dean (Dean Cain), rookie Carlos Tavares (John Ortiz), bullying head batboy Jose Marquez (J.D. Pardo), and gruff equipment manager Lou Russo (Christopher Lloyd) who becomes a surrogate father figure for Pete.
While Pete loves being a member of his favorite team, he still has to learn how to balance his life at home, school work, and in the big leagues.
