George & Leo
George Stoody (Bob Newhart) is the mild-mannered owner of a Martha’s Vineyard bookstore and has one employee, the sarcastic Ambrose (Darryl Thierse).
George’s restaurateur son Ted (Jason Bateman) is engaged to marry sweet Casey Wagonman (Bess Meyer, then Robyn Lively). Ted decides to surprise his fiancee by inviting her long-lost father Leo (Judd Hirsch), a small-time hood and magician, to visit. Unfortunately she can’t stand her father and Leo is on the run from the mob because he stole their payoff money.
With George’s help, Leo escapes being whacked and, unfortunately for George, decides to stick around.
