Ava Gregory (Lori Loughlin) is a thirty-something rising star in the fashion industry.
She lives in a Southern California beach house with her close friends; on-again-off-again boyfriend Johnny Durant (Shawn Christian), Australian surfer Jay Robertson (Ryan Kwanten), and Ava’s best friend and business partner, Susannah Rexford (Merrin Dungey).
When her Kansas sister and brother-in-law are killed in an accident. Ava is left to raise their three children; 16-year-old Bradin (Jesse McCartney), 12-year-old Nikki (Kay Panabaker), and eight-year-old Derrick (Nick Benson).
She’s determined to provide for her new family but must overcome a wide variety of challenges. With the help of her extended family, Ava tries to help the kids work through their grief, anger, and troubles with the law.
