Behind the Scenes
| • | The series was one of the few hits of the 2006-07 season and attracted an average of 12.35 million viewers each week. |
| • | Ugly Betty is based on a Columbian telenovela entitled Yo soy Betty, la fea or “Betty la fea.” There are many other adaptations around the world but Ugly Betty is the most unlike the original. |
| • | The series received 11 Emmy nominations for its first season. |
| • | The series was originally being developed as a 2001 half-hour sitcom for NBC but didn’t move past the planning stages. ABC and producer/actress Salma Hayek came on board in 2004 and reworked it as an hour-long “dramady.” |
