The ABC network has been announcing its new Fall 2006 schedule this week. As part of that, they’ve been telling us what won’t be returning, much to the dismay of some TV viewers. It turns out that none of the scripted series introduced on ABC last fall will be returning.
Commander in Chief – ABC will begin airing the remaining new episodes on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Fans of the series will be able to purchase Commander in Chief on DVD in the Fall. I would expect there to be some interesting supplemental materials concerning this promising but troubled series. (Download Commander in Chief on iTunes)
Crumbs – The outrageous comedy with Jane Curtin, William Devane and Fred Savage is not on the ABC Fall 2006 schedule. Five of the existing eight episodes were aired.
The Evidence – This Rob Estes drama shot six episodes (aired four) and has been off the schedule since April.
Freddie – ABC will show the unaired pilot episode of the Brian Austin Green and Freddie Prinze, Jr. series on Wednesday, May 31, 2006.
Hope & Faith – After 73 episodes and three seasons, the season finale that aired on May 2nd will be the show’s last. Repeat episodes can be seen on Friday nights beginning June 2, 2006.
In Justice – The Kyle MacLachalan drama has not been picked up for a new season and only produced 13 episodes (all of which have aired).
Invasion – There were reportedly some initial talks of the show being picked up by the new CW network. That became unlikely due to high production costs. The complete Invasion series is available on DVD and features some nice extras.
Less Than Perfect – You can see new episodes starting on Tuesday, May 30, 2006. After four seasons, the show is not on the Fall lineup.
Primetime – For the first time in over 15 years, the veteran news show is not on the fall schedule. The show may return in the form of news specials or if an entertainment show currently on the schedule fails.
Rodney – This show has been missing since February but will return on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 to air unseen episodes.
Sons & Daughters – Fans of this quirky comedy can check out co-creator and series star Fred Goss’ blog for his thoughts on the cancellation.
Other shows that had been cancelled previously include: Alias, Emily’s Reasons Why Not, Hot Properties, Jake in Progress, and Night Stalker.
Keep in mind that, though unlikely, it is possible for shows to be resurrected, especially after a new season starts and new shows don’t garner the ratings that the network hopes for.
According to Jim, What About Brian and George Lopez, which were all on the brink of cancellation, have been renewed for another season.
ABC needs their heads examined. You NEED to bring Rodney back. It is one of the funniest shows I ever saw. I looked forward every week to watching it. I love According to Jim, but yes Rodney was funnier. I would love to see both shows air back to back again. Does ABC not think that with all the sadness going on in the world, that people could use some gut hurting laughter in their lives. Instead of all the police dramas and reality shows that are always popping up year after year, starting keeping the great comedy shows on.… Read more »
My husband & I are not into watching the LOCAL television as we have DIRECT TV HOWEVER, during a STORM one evening we saw the VERY First Invasion and have followed it ever since. We then started to watch LOST and are Wednesday nights were set. If we had to work late we used our DVR and recorded them and watched both LOST and Invasion together when we arrived home! We are so sad to see you have RUINED our LINE UP!!! We are glad Lost will return but Wednesdays will NOT be the same without Invasion…. Although we see… Read more »
According to Jim on ABC is by far one of the funniest shows on television. It is a true family comedy and my children look forward to what Uncle Andy does each week along with seeing Jim and Cheryle mix. Where and when will it appear again on the ABC lineup? Rodney was funny but didn’t have the same timing as According to Jim
ABC and NBC Exec’s are idiots!!! Both networks cancel two really good shows. First ABC cancels Invasion and then NBC cancels Surface. I think another network should pick these programs up and show them how stupid they are when that networks ratings start going way up.
I am disappointed to hear that Invasion will not be returning this fall. It was one of the better shows amongst the crap your network has become known for. I cannot understand why you would cancel a show that has the potential to become really big. What you should have done was try another time slot, before taking such drastic measures. You could have at least tied up the story lines before cancelling it.
You may as well cancel your entire network. Shows like Invasion would have kept you afloat……….now I’ll be hard pressed to watch anything. You treat your viewers with such complete lack of respect……such is the view I, (and many of my friends) now hold of you. I don’t think the “A” in “ABC” stands for “American”……..
You just gave me a reason to pick up my book more often. Thanks
I am saddened, like the others, that Commander In Chief was cancelled, but hope that it can be resurrected by the same, or another network. It was so well written, and I enjoyed all the characters, especially Gena. Please bring them all back…soon! Thank you!
What a disappointment the viewers of ABC have expressed here on this page. The cancelling of Invasion, Commander in Chief, Rodney, and even Freddie have people wondering just what ABC believes that their viewers want to see. Personally, I dont watch reality TV. Ive never watched it and never will. I think its boring plain and simple. Im a drama fanatic and truly enjoyed Wednesday night just as many have expressed so far in these postings. Lost will continue to be good and then with Invasion after it, I had 2 solid hours of great drama to watch. I even… Read more »
Invasion is a series that should have continued. Left the fans hanging on wondering of the out come. It was a mistake to cancel it. If you do not want to contine the series, should at least give it an ending. Very disappointed that a good series like invation could not have continued, while others, not half as good as invation are continuing.
ABC you have missed the boat in cancelling Rodney.
That was the only show my husband and I looked forward to watching every week. We won’t be watching ABC this fall. Who wants to watch another new show and have ABC’s upper management cancel it. There idiots. They don’t even know a bright funny show when it’s layed in there lap.
commander in chief was ok but just okay, it wasn’t as good as west wing. real life was more interesting than c and chief and the one episode were the kids take over the white house and have girls and guys and beer in the white house was STUPID DUMB AND STUPID they don’t let a bunch of dumb kids run around the white house even if their mother is the president. the secret service and the white house security still stay. and having a bunch of STUPID DUMB teen agers promoting underage drinking and boys and girls running around… Read more »
Regarding Invasion. I am very disapointed it has been canceled. I enjoyed watching Lost and then Invasion. Could have sworn or thought it would have been a great story line to find out in the end that the two shows related to one another. You know the “others” were actually the “Invaders”- wouldn’t that have added a great story dimension to the mystery,
i cant believe that abc has cancelled 2 really great shows. invasion and rodney were the best shows. invasion kept us on edge and rodney just made me pee my pants with laughter. so far the only show left for me to watch is desperate housewives. abc is making very big mistakes cancelling these shows.
Two good shows have been cancelled – “Invasion” & “Commander in Chief”.
Invasion was getting better & better with every episode and then they leave us hanging with a cliffhanger and we will never get to find out what happened. “Commander in Chief” was great from the beginning. The network ruined it by having too many weeks between episodes & then moving it to a different night. That was a great show & Geena Davis was great in it.
Hi here in the UK we have recently recieved ABC1 which mainly shows all of ABC’s comedy progs and also Commander in Chief. Have to say that Commander in Chief is great and that my wife and I think that Rodney and Less Than Perfect are just fantastic shows. We are also great fans of Mad About You. We are very sad and angry to hear that these shows have been axed, especially Rodney. Luckily we can now get FX which I think seems to be your Fox channel. Now I can watch NCIS and Sleeper Cell etc. without having… Read more »
