Deadline reports that ABC has ordered some extra episodes of several — but not all — of their current TV shows.
Grey’s Anatomy, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, and Black-ish will all now have 24 episodes this time around. Castle and Once Upon a Time will have 23 installments each.
Resurrection, which is way down season-to-season, will have just one additional episode, bringing its season total to 14 episodes. It will be replaced mid-season by American Crime (which will have 11 installments).
Scandal, because of its dense storylines, will stay at 22 episodes this season. How to Get Away with Murder will stay at 15 installments because of star Viola Davis’ contract.
Nashville and Revenge, which continue to struggle in the ratings, haven’t been asked for any additional episodes. Newbie shows Forever, Selfie and Manhattan Love Story are tanking so it seems likely that they won’t be asked for more than 13 installments apiece and will be cancelled after that.
UPDATE: ABC later decided not to order an additional episode of Resurrection after all, leaving the ratings-challenged show at 13 episodes.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that these shows will have more episodes this season? Which are your favorites?
Love Forever! Give it a chance. It is not some “airheaded, brainless show”. Good shows are a rarity. Forever should be around for a while. Great cast and storylines. Please keep it going.
Loving Forever. Hope the kinks are ironed out in the story line and it stays, if nor forever) quite a while.
I love resurrection…….to bad you guys are counseling it…..i do not watch any I f your other shows…..bye bye abc
Save Forever….tv worth watching…..no more so called reality tv
Yes, yes, yes! I love Forever, and Dr. Henry Morgan!
Do not cancel Nashville. The wonderful music in it is sufficient to keep it. Give it some more time and promote it.
Sad to see forever on the hit list. I hope you will give it more time and promo–it is a good show with good acting.
Yes, Forever is an amazing show!
Yes get a bit frightened to watch a show incase it gets axed love resurrection.forever .revenge ..love love longmire ..the bridge..loved tomorrow people ..bitten..atlantis but never given a real chance when u get pathetic reality shows running season after season ..its like reading a book and the last chapter is missing waste of time at least give us the courtesy of an appropriate ending..
i like comedy & drama, i like last man standing
I do not watch any show on ABC other than General Hospital since stupid Brian Frons cancelled All My Children and One Life to Live in 2011. NO GMA, The View, The Chew or any of their Primetime for me and my household. Since ABC is owned by Disney, I also boycott their films, theme parks and products. 3 million soap fans are willing to return, but only when ABC realizes that we want Daytime Drama on our screens not cooking or lifestyle shows!
i second everything you said, we boycotters get these shows cancelled, if ABC and their followers can’t see that, they will continue to lose their favorite shows.
I don’t know why I bother watching tv. I usually record all my favorite shows like FOREVER on DVD so I can watch them on my schedule and watch a whole season at once. But all stations are so concerned over their stupid bottom line. I suppose I should at leaSt thank ABC for not dropping Forever in the middle of the season so I have a complete season on my DVD so my hubby and I can watch a completed thought out season when we have time to watch a good show like FOREVER. If my input has any… Read more »
I love the comedies on ABC, and enjoy Forever, Grey’s, How to Get Away With Murder, Once Upon A Time, and our family favorite Resurrection. The replacement shows don’t hold much interest for our family, so cancelation just leaves us open to invest in other networks, and forget that ABC even exists once more, at least during the times that the shows we work hard to schedule our lives to be able to watch without missing an episode SHOULD be airing.
One should not be scheduling life around TV, instead life should come first and if there is room for TV then watch it.
Who are you to tell people how to live their life? If people want to watch TV instead of going out to spend $ or whatever, it is THEIR choice. Go out and do your own thing and don’t worry about how other people schedule their TV habits.
ABC – PLEASE give Forever more of a chance!!!!!! It is such a wonderful show and the actors work so well together and off of one another. Please keep it running for a full season. It needs that at least to grab more people, especially given its late time slot.
Have to agree with others, I am sick and tired of being dismissed by the networks just because I don’t fall into their precious demo range. I have more money to spend and more time to watch TV than ANY 20 to 30-somethings, and with TWO DVRs, I am the definition of a guaranteed audience. A&E’s Longmire had some of the best ratings in that channel’s HISTORY, yet they claim it was cancelled because it didn’t meet the DEMO goals! Seriously, how far up their asses are these network execs’ heads? Imagine where the Star Trek franchise would be today… Read more »
🙂 They were in charge back then. The original Star Trek show was canceled and only survived due to its popularity gained during syndication reruns.
Forever is a wonderful show. ABC has done minimal promotion and put it in a terrible timeslot. I rarely watch network tv shows because most of them aren’t worth watching. I only started watching Forever because of Ioan Gruffudd and Judd Hirsch, because they are both outstanding actors. They have not disappointed! If this is how ABC treats a show that has an interesting storyline and great characters, I won’t waste my time checking out anymore of their new shows. They need to take a look at the ratings of their other evening shows. From what I can tell, Forever… Read more »
I love forever , and I agree with Jacki R. It has really good actors. There’s a lot of other crappy shows that could be canceled instead and that have outlived there story to the point there writers have no clue what to do next to keep viewers interested. One is modern family which I always watched but it seems empty when coming up with real laughs anymore. Give
We watch very few ABC shows, perhaps our most favorite is Gracepoint, which we hope makes the full run of 10 shows but realize will not be renewed.
Sometimes we tune into Revenge to see the train wreck it has become. It has become even more laughable this season. We thank ABC for it’s unintentional Sunday night comedy.
Other than that we have better things to do than watch mediocre shows.
Major faux paus. Gracepoint is on FOX, so of course ABC wouldn’t renew it.
Anyway that leaves me with zero regularly watched ABC shows. And just one FOX show.
Exactly, I read that and my head was spinning, trying to figure that one out. Thanks for stating what to me was so obvious. OOPS!
