NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
Incredible acting and interesting, suspenseful story. Please give this show more time. There is nothing to watch on television that is smart and does not involve constant bedroom scenes. This show kept you on the edge of your seat and also had characters who captured your concern. Hope it is picked up.
The show is one of the best in years, to cancel it would be a huge mistake, the ratings not bring what you’ve wanted is a thing that can be fixed, put it on a different day and time with all the good shows out there, this show can and will beat out the other ones if you put it on the right day and time, give it a second season and a third, the show just got started and getting better, you have a lot of room to make it better and the ratings to go through the roof,… Read more »
Great show. Should give it a chance. Sorry to see it taken off the air. They didn’t advertise it at all. But yet stupid comedies are advertised constantly. Shame on NBC.
Love this show.. Why was it cancelled? Any shows with plot cannot survive on NBC
I thought the show was brilliant, problem is all networks think Thursday is the only day people at have TV. It has everything just not promoted enough & needs to be on a different night.
What a terrible decision by the network to cancel this MORE THAN EXCELLENT show!!
Cannot build an audience with 5 episodes and very little publicity….RIDICULOUS
Allegiance was a wonderful show! Terrific actors…good storyline…BUT…networks never seem to want to give a good, serious show a chance!! 5 episodes is just not enough to build an audience…I don’t think the network put much effort in advertising this one either…
Disheartening, to say the least…!!!!
Of course they cancelled it, since it is not reality TV. Why can’t networks give shows a chance and listen to viewers. We want TV shows, not so called “reality” TV. UGH!
NBC cancelled Allegiance , a great adult show(since the viewer have to really get to use the brain, making us intelligent ), and now they are coming with Emerald City (the plot sounds great, and yes it will require some kind of intelligence so the viewer will not compare the story with the wizard of OZ) probably it will be cancel after a few episodes, just the way NBC runs their business. Please, bring Allegiance back, maybe it will restore faith in the network
I enjoyed the show….should not have been cancelled
So sorry Allegiance was canceled. Some of the shows on now are terrible and you cancel it so soon. Very disappointing.
I love Allegiance. Why do only brain sucking reality shows stay on???
Sigh. Yet again, ANOTHER show that the network gives up on before it has a chance to find its legs… Good grief, it’s enough to make me stop watching television all together and just stick with movies. At least with them you (mostly) get a sense of closure. If I wasn’t already invested in the Blacklist I’d drop NBC like a hot potato. As it stands, I doubt I’ll check out any of their other programming now. GOID JOB NBC ON ALIENATING ANOTHER VIEWER. Keep it up and you just might kill your network…
Can’t believe its cancelled, my husband and I loved the show. Quite unfair to tease us with 5 episodes and then pull the plug 🙁
I thought this was one of the best shows currently on TV, with a more complex plot development, character development and suspense than 99% of what passes for
television today. Really surprised to see it cancelled because of ratings, especially
so early in the season. The ratings must be either to the poor quality of TV viewers
these days or because it wasn’t around long enough for people to discover it and get
into the plot. Each episode was like watching a Mission Impossible movie. They should
at least have given it 10 episodes
Me and my wife love the show, and we hope another network will be smart enough to pick this great series up. Shame on you NBC, you don’t realize great talent when it is right your on network.
