TV show description:
This sci-fi police drama takes place 35 years into the future, in the year 2048. It’s a world in which police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.
Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) is a cop who’s survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. He wakes up after a 17-month coma. He can’t remember much — except that his partner was killed. He’s lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. He suffers from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD and the “psychological rejection of his synthetic body part.”
John returns to work at the encouragement of his longtime ally, Captain Sandra Maldonado (Lili Taylor). Every cop must now be paired with a robot and, despite his passionate aversion to androids, John is no exception.
He’s partnered with a battle-ready MX-43 model. He abruptly terminates this pairing after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. As a result, technician Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook) introduces John to Dorian (Michael Ealy), a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.
Although these responses were deemed flaws, it’s these “flaws” that John relates to Dorian most — John is part-machine and Dorian is part-human. John and Dorian’s understanding of each other not only complements them, it connects them.
As he adjusts to working with his new partner, John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, like the sharp and insightful human intelligence analyst Detective Valerie Stahl (Minka Kelly) and Detective Richard Paul (Michael Irby), a distrustful man who doesn’t welcome John back with open arms.
Episode #13 – Straw Man
Kennex and Dorian revisit the past when a string of murders are similar to those committed by a serial killer who was put in jail by Kennex’s father. Dorian gets his first performance review after being reactivated.
First aired: March 3, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like the Almost Human TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for another season?
We love this show. It is different, inventive and a terrific premise. Love the cast and the chemistry.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW.
I think Almost Human should be renewed. It’s well done. I agree with an earlier comment that this is a show that is soooo much better than all the contrived “reality” shows. I will be a loyal fan of Almost Human! Don’t take it away!
Great show – entertaining with the tech stuff and the interplay among the main characters. I agree with another comment made – get rid of all the crap reality shows. I guess I am one of the few that is repulsed by trying to enjoy the staged phoniness of reality shows. Only morons could get hooked on that garbage they are feeding you.
Love this show. Hate fwhen they pre-empty it to show other shows.
Another interesting show that appears headed for the scrapyard! Why don’t you take some of the crummy “reality” shows off and put more on like Almost Human. The storyline is novel and the writing has shown flashes of some real talent behind the scenes. The personalities of the characters make for an hour of true escape from the drudgery of everyday bad news and provide entertainment. That is something certainly lacking in the “inspiring” shows about cooking, running thru a jungle naked and a host of other such offerings or even the terribly talentless “cartoon characters” that have enjoyed long… Read more »
Love the show needs more emotional makeup with Minka Kelly. Also having a super criminal to put some pressure on the leading character. Put more twist in each episode so keep the interests up.
Great show but please cancel so my family will stop watching and wasting time and electricity. Then I can shut off my sat dish and do some productive. I love the show PLEASE TAKE IT AWAY
Once again TV has presented us with an exceptional science fiction series. The last one “Firefly” was cancelled. Please, do not let history repeat itself and renew Almost Human. It is well-scripted, well-cast, offers glimpses of shows to come (what is over the wall?). Every week it is one of the few shows that I do not want to miss. And I watch it on TV. My vote should count! There are so many “popular” shows that are being renewed such as Bones, Two Broke Girls, New Girl (any more Girl shows?) that I can’t get through one episode of.… Read more »
I watched it in 3-4 week DVR’ed patches, usually due to my hatred of commercials, and that I could get more into watching three to four hours at once. I’m hoping that they will renew Almost Human for a 2nd season, there aren’t enough good SIFY shows as it is, and because FOX is severely lacking in watchable programs! I can’t say I loved it as much that I’d pay for a DVD, but as a package on my cable, so worth it!
Should not be cancelled excellent show, very enjoyable!!!
This show should be renewed. There are so few shows worth watching.
I really hope Almost Human gets renewed. It’s a quality show that deserves better treatment than what it has gotten so far from Fox. We need something to counteract the intellectual vacuousness of “reality” shows like “The Bachelor” and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”.
Love, love, love this show! Chemistry between John & Darian is very funny yet endearing. The tech stuff is cool & thought provoking. Great story lines & interesting characters.
Please renew this outstanding & difference from all the other crap on TV show.
I REALLY hope the executives at FOX are reading the comments being made- not just here, but many other sites- involving this great show and it being renewed for Season 2. There are many great story directions for this show to follow, including the possible attraction between John Hennex & Valerie Stahl .
There are many aspects of this story that could go in a I, ROBOT (robots wanting to be seen as living beings), to something seen in the ANIMATRIX (robots fighting for their existence). All in all, I truly believe this show deserves to continue.
Almost Human is a great show. Finally done decent acting with a futuristic theme. What a great chemistry the actors have, and what a plot. So menu ways to go with this show, and what about”The Wall”. Not even scraped the surface on that subject.. keep it on. Check the DVR ratings on it, it has to be good. How do too expect any show go you against . THE VOICE, really?? Too start something great and then you just throw it all in the trash.
