When a new film is released, the studio and everyone else involved with the movie essentially hold their breath. They hope and pray that it’ll get good reviews, word of mouth, and make a boatload of money. Director Mike Judge is hedging his bets by creating a review of his own — starring Beavis and Butt-head.
This weekend marks the release of Judge’s new comedy called Extract. It revolves around the owner (Jason Bateman) of a vanilla extract factory and his problems both at home and at work. The film also stars Ben Affleck, Kristen Wig, Mila Kunis, Dustin Milligan, Gene Simmons, and J.K. Simmons.
To help give the movie an additional bit of attention, Judge has resurrected his Beavis and Butt-head characters to give a review. As you might expect, the pair of dim-witted, heavy-metal loving characters don’t exactly give intelligent commentary. Still, in these crazy times, it’s reassuring to know that they haven’t changed in all of these years.
Could the former TV stars return in a bigger project? Judge certainly still has a great fondness for Beavis and Butt-head. He recently told Collider “I like to keep the door open on Beavis and Butt-head because it’s my favorite thing that I’ve ever done. It’s the thing I’m most proud of.”
Judge also said that he’s considered making another movie but the two year commitment to make it would be really tough. he doesn’t rule it out though and says that he continually stockpiles ideas that could be used.
Judge said, “Sometimes an idea will come up, like “let’s have them work tech support,” and I think God, I’d love to do that and I wish I was still doing the show. I’ve kind of accumulated oall of these ideas that I never did and maybe I’ll be able to come up with something to do with them.”
He concluded, “The more people who ask me, the more it makes me want to do it, you know?”
What do you think? Would you like to see the characters return? In a movie or in new episodes?
