Black Box: Has the ABC TV Show Been Cancelled?

Black Box TV show canceled or season two?ABC recently cancelled several shows (Mixology, Suburgatory, Betrayal, etc.) and renewed many others (Resurrection, Revenge, The Goldbergs, etc.). What about the new Black Box series that airs on Thursday nights?

The show revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.

The show debuted on April 24th to a poor 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. The ratings have gotten even worse as the weeks have progressed. This week’s installment hit a new low with a 1.1 rating and 4.31 million.

While ABC hasn’t cancelled Black Box, they surely will. The ratings have just been too low to be renewed for a second season.

The question now is, “Will all of the episodes air?” There are nine episodes remaining. If the ratings keep going down, the network could easily pull the show and replace it with reruns. Hopefully they’ll either air or release them so the show’s small audience can see them.

What do you think? Do you think that Black Box should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Do you think ABC should air all of the episodes they have?

I love this show! I’m so sick of good shows being cancelled because of a select few. It’s unique & the acting is terrific. Give it a chance, please!

I have enjoyed the show.
It’s not “House” but does try to use realistic technology and thus is informative, or at least interesting to the audience. A bit of sexual tension doesn’t hurt either- most of the characters seem almost human.
I will miss it. If more of the US tv audience used DVR to watch prime time I think it would be more appreciated.

Took me 3-4 episodes to understand the star character’s type of bipolar (I am bipolar II). So I hung on – when she said she has “musical hallucinations”, I could relate. But, I DON’T like that every patient in the series featured ends up having an organic illness that they usually treat and or cure. This is soooo not real life – esp in a hospital like that one. The only mentally ill patients are in the background. For that reason alone I am disappointed. I am “joe average” when it comes to what I like – if I like or don’t like something, so does the rest of my demographic. Which tells me it’s probably going to be nixed.

I look forward to watching this show. Please don’t cancel. Love the actors and plot lines. A show with some thinking to it does appeal to us. There are enough mindless fluff shows on. This may fill the void that House left. Give it some time. Bipolar disorder and other mental health issues need to be addressed and this show may be a vehicle to bring it to the public.

I have mixed feelings. Star character is the only person on the show with a Mental Health disorder – all of the patients present that way, but they are all organic illnesses and she cures them or that hunky surgeon cuts out the problem.

I’m 58, why isn’t my age group considered? We are usually the ones that watch the good drama shows. The age group you are rating watches mostly reality shows. This is a great show that is giving recognition to brain diseases. Something that more and more families are having to deal with.

Please please PLEASE don’t cancel this show. Yes, I will agree that the first episode was a little too much, but it gets better and better with each episode, as the characters and the storyline develops to find its true identity. Give it a chance, PLEASE!!! It is sooo good. Yes, it’s unrealistic. It’s supposed to be. It’s a show. On television. C’mon people.

Please not this one too. Seriously they need to take into consideration how some people watch this show and other shows. Not everyone has cable so a certain amount of ratings should automatically be added to these awesome shows. Stop cancelling the great shows and get rid of the stupid ones that have been on, thanks to the elite probably, enough is enough.
