Black Box: Has the ABC TV Show Been Cancelled?

Black Box TV show canceled or season two?ABC recently cancelled several shows (Mixology, Suburgatory, Betrayal, etc.) and renewed many others (Resurrection, Revenge, The Goldbergs, etc.). What about the new Black Box series that airs on Thursday nights?

The show revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.

The show debuted on April 24th to a poor 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. The ratings have gotten even worse as the weeks have progressed. This week’s installment hit a new low with a 1.1 rating and 4.31 million.

While ABC hasn’t cancelled Black Box, they surely will. The ratings have just been too low to be renewed for a second season.

The question now is, “Will all of the episodes air?” There are nine episodes remaining. If the ratings keep going down, the network could easily pull the show and replace it with reruns. Hopefully they’ll either air or release them so the show’s small audience can see them.

What do you think? Do you think that Black Box should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Do you think ABC should air all of the episodes they have?

Please DON’T cancel the show. I really like the show , I got my daughter hooked on it too. It was put on up against top long running shows. Run it now when shows are sleeping. Give the people a second chance.

Black Box is a great show! Much better than most of the junk on TV. I didn’t know the show existed until I flipped through the list of TV series on my Ipad. I agree with some of the other comments. We need fewer reality shows, more quality. Kelly Reilly is good. I was really happy to see her in another TV series after watching her in the British series, Above Suspicion. Does a show have to appeal to a teenager to make it these days? I hope it doesn’t get cancelled.

I was a little hesitant when the show first aired but as each week had gone on I looked forward to the next episode. I hope they don’t cancel it. :-(

Black Bix is a smart, addicting show. The marketing prior to and during it’s short season was either horrible or non-existant. Please do the smart thing and DONT cancel this show. I will be a return viewer and I’m btwn 18-49 :). Thx

I think the show started rough, it was a bit to fantastical, but the later episodes have toned down the fanciful dancing and hyper sexuality (things that I believed made people really uncomfortable) so that the show now is actually very interesting. I personally think the show is very smart, but that doesn’t always translate well to a public that seems to prefer inane comedy. I think if given a chance the show could develop and be as good as House. That show also dealt with controversial issues and it was very popular. The thing it did differently was to develop an audience before allowing us to see the very big flaws in our main character. Black Box just kind of flung it out there in our faces, when I think they should have taken more time to develop the character before showing the darker side of the disease.
I hope they give it a chance and learn from their mistakes.

We love love this show. It is entertaining, maybe somewhat realistic. The best part of this show for us is the soundtrack. My husband is a jazz musician and loves the pure jazz and solo work of unnamed NYC jazz musicians. Great work

Main character’s psychiatrist by law would have to notify character’s employer about her having bipolar. If main character missed one day of meds it would take more than a day to affect her but who cares…i still like the show

I have been watching the show since the first episode. I work in the mental health field and for me the show is very interesting. This is a show on television but it’s a good show because it actually talks about something that touch on real lives. The world has been so conditioned to watching reality shows and playing video games and texting their life away, they don’t know a good television, unless it was entertaining. I don’t think the show will make it because the world rather keep mental health situations in their family a secret,so they can play the perfect family, what a shame…..

With Reality TV purgatory in full swing on cable TV , Black Box was one of the only reasons to turn on Cable. Too bad it is cancelled. Thank goodness for Netflix!! I for one would rather watch You Tube or Netflix than the garbage that passes for summer entertainment.

Please don’t cancel this show too. Mind Games was canceled and now this show too? Mental Illness needs to be shown and talked about, not just bipolar. It is a great show, maybe expand on more than nerosicense and bipolar disorders, but all mental disorders. It’s so important…. and real. Educate people, don’t dumb them down with one more of the same ol same thing. Copies of all the same shows.

Please don’t cancel the show!!! This show represents people with a mental disease that can function but also has her problems . We need more drama series not reality shows that all you hear is vulgar language every other word and fighting.
