Black Box: Season One Ratings

Black Box on ABC ratingsABC gave Black Box a straight-to-series order and ordered 13 episodes without seeing a pilot first. They held it until late in the season (typically not a good sign) on Thursdays at 10pm as a replacement for their hit show, Scandal. Will Black Box live up to expectations? Will it be a ratings success and earn a second season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.

Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

8/7 update: ABC has cancelled Black Box after one season.

Final season averages: 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.41 million total viewers.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

What do you think? Do you like the Black Box TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a second season?

Kelly Reilly is great. Not to mention an absolute babe. I saw her in a couple of episodes on British tv. She was so good, and So blessd with physical beauty, I knew she would be coming over here soon.–Just not quite this soon.
Too bad the series is so blatently unrealistic. Anyone with her intellect, and her bi polar disorder, would have learned long, long ago the importance, nay the necessity, of med compliance. The fact that her character hasn’t figured that out yet, is a telltale sign that her character, as well as the show, are nothing but $3.00 bills.
As a Total waste of time, I hope thay cancel it real soon. Kelly deserves a much better series. She would be a great replacement for Capt. Raydor in the disappointing and declining Major Crimes.
She could play an independent, self-assured, rebellious prodigy, from Scotland Yard.

“Unlike any doctor you’ve ever met,” goes the tagline. And a good thing, too. If you ever find yourself under the care of doctors like these, run away. Very fast. This show is fantasy, all right, but it isn’t like Alice in Wonderland. It’s more like House in Hell. No, it’s like Seinfeld Through The Looking-Glass, where all of the characters are ALWAYS at their most insufferable and obnoxious. It’s reassuring to see that despite the posters here who inexplicably like tbe show, most viewers are savvy enough to be voting with their remotes and tuning out. The show is doing dismally in the ratings, which actually gives me hope for America.

Of course it will be cancelled, it is far too intelligent and interesting a show to be continued.

I absolutely love this show. Everything about it makes it exciting, and I think that though the first episode missed the mark, people need to give it a chance. It gets better and better with every episode, as it gets redirected and refocused to find its true identity. Please please please don’t cancel this show. Give it a chance!!!

TV IS A WASTELAND, SO LITTLE WORTH WATCHING, THE BLACK BOX IS AN EXCEPION. DON’T CANCEL IT! GIVE THOSE OF US WITH ACTIVE GREY MATTER SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE USUAL MIND NUMBING NONSENSE TO WATCH.

Blackbox is a great show. It needs to stay on the air.
I thought for sure that Scandal fans would jump aboard as I have. It’s interesting and fun.
I vote definitely, definitely keep it.

I do find the show entertaining however extremely dangerous. Our society has a mass intellect deficit.

I understand the concerns of the medical professionals, to a degree. But they have to allow that for most of us, this show takes an interesting, sometimes amusing twist at looking at such very serious disorders, and IMHO, is well-acted & directed. But yes, it is FANTASY. Hey, “Alice In Wonderland” is fantasy, too… no one would claim otherwise, but it’s a staple of modern literature. I’ve found “Black Box” MOST enjoyable & interesting to watch each week, and certainly hope it remains in ABC’s stable. If ABC screws up, please, someone else PICK IT UP! As with MANY shows… “Produce it, and they will come.”
