I see two reasons for the cancellation. One, the growing number and popularity of what I would call phony home improvement shows. These are the weird decorating shows with those loud personalities–not legit shows like This Old House, Bob Vila, and Hometime.

Two, and specifically dealing with Bob Vila, his show has gone downhill a bit the past few years. The projects haven’t been too good–using old shipping containers for the structure of new homes and that Miami Beach condo remodel–what a dud! The one project I liked from last year was the large addition for the homeowners parents. However, they only used 6 episodes and half of that was for extensive concrete pours.

Bob’s show hasn’t been good since season 13 of “Bob Vila’s Home Again” when they did that Modern Colonial in Centerville, MA. I believe that was also the final season to feature carpenter Bob Ryley, whom I always liked on the show.

Still, I would rather watch Bob Vila’s worst project than the best of the modern decorating shows. Let’s hope Bob gets it together and comes up with a new show!
