Brothers & Sisters: ABC Series Renewed for Season Five

Brothers & SistersThe alphabet network has renewed Sunday night drama Brothers & Sisters for a fifth season. As you may have heard, there are big changes in store for the TV show.

Brothers & Sisters revolves around the Walker family as they deal with their own personal dilemmas and run the family business, Ojai Foods. The ABC cast includes Calista Flockhart, Sally Field, Dave Annable, Emily VanCamp, Kerris Lilla Dorsey, Luke Grimes, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Maxwell Perry Cotton, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Rob Lowe, Ron Rifkin, and Balthazar Getty.

While the ratings this season are down from last year, the decrease isn’t dramatic (unlike most everything on the show). Last season, Brothers & Sisters averaged a 3.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.87 million viewers. So far, the ABC drama’s averaged a 3.0 in the demo and 9.23 million viewers.

The show’s now been renewed for a fifth season. No word on how many installments ABC will order but a full season of 22-24 episodes is expected.

However many episodes there are, they will likely be full of changes. Lowe is leaving the series later this season and Flockhart is supposedly going to be cutting back the number of episodes she’ll do. In addition, Gilles Marini, who plays the boyfriend of Sarah Walker (Griffiths), may become a series regular next season.

What do you think? Are you glad that Brothers & Sisters has been renewed? Do you think the cast changes will result in the show being cancelled or revitalized?

The show is loved and watched in Australia, its said to see Rob Lowe leaving and it left a tear in my eye, i don’t believe that the show looks unreal as i related to it very well as i have a similar family. I don’t want to see the show end.

Really glad to hear this is coming back for another series, the sale of Ojai foods scared me a little as I really do not want to see this show come to an end, and I can see that there is an argument that the series is centered around the business. However I’m invested in the show for the matriachal side, and the personal relationships.

I’d love to see Scotty and Kevin with a baby next year, as this would be something completely new for British television! And also adorably cute.

I absolutely love this series, the cast is perfect, I am really sorry to learn that Rob Lowe is leaving. I agree with Kate I do not want the show to come to and end. Its really good to hear there is at least another series with most of the original cast. I do love this series. Well done ABC for such a good production.

I love this show but wish Channel Four would put it back on prime time tv. The ratings are down because no-one knows its on or else they would love it too!!! Please please don’t take this show off. It has just the right amount of comedy, tragedy and emotion. It’s genius !!!!

I think this is one of the best series in years. The family is like many with its ups and downs. I am sorry Rob Lowe is leaving, but now maybe Kitty will team up with the dad from the park. I hope Nora finds happines this season. I can’t wait till the new season begins

Dear Readers, Channel 4 and ABC,

I’m of course really sad Rob Lowe has died!!!!! I think Calista Flockhart and Rob Lowe make a fantastic on screen couple and it is a tragedy that it’s come to an end!!! It’s going to be sad to see less of Calista Flockhart, but glad she’s still in it!

As the above events are sad!!!! But in a way, I’m thankful! As I’m feeling very emotional and angry but that’s what make a really well done television program (Up’s and Down’s, the downs never wanted but unfortunately necessary to make interesting and compelling to watch!)!!!!! I LOVE Brothers and sisters!! And I am very happy to here there will be at least another series!!! And I hope there will be many more after that!!! :D

Owww and I also want to say, I agree with the comment that “Nannie Annie” left, if channel four would put Brothers and Sisters back on to premier time Television, then:

1. People would know about it, lets face it; it does not get that much advertising already + would help with ratings!!!! (There should be more!) SO PLEASE MOVE IT BACK TO A PREMIRE TV CHANNEL AND TIME!!!

2. People who do watch the show LOVE IT!!!! So please, give people the opportunity to knew about it and I know they would love it as many other people do!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LONG LIKE BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am soooo pleased that there will be a season 5 of Brothers and Sisters. I LOVE this show! I have 5 kids myself, 2 girls and 3 boys and I can relate to the family dynamic in the show. One of the best shows to come out of the US in years!!

I’ve just watched the finale and even though I knew Rob Lowe was crashing out permanently, as it were, I still found it very emotional – I expected it to be a result of his heart, or the meds. Wasn’t expecting the rest of the family to get caught up in the accident.

I’ll miss Rob, but I adore Rachel Griffiths, so as long as she gets plenty more screentime (with that lovely Luc!) I’ll keep watching. The upside of Rob going is that Calista Flockhart is supposedly cutting back on episodes – she’s always annoyed me so I’ll be happy to see a bit less of her breathy faffing about!
