Bunheads: Cancelled by ABC Family, No Season Two

TV series Bunheads on ABC FamilyABC Family has officially cancelled Bunheads after one season and 18 episodes. The fate of the Sutton Foster dramedy had been up in the air since the last episode aired in February.

In a statement, the cable channel said, “Bunheads is a wonderful series that we are very proud to have aired. The series had amazing storytelling, the most talented cast and a passionate and loyal fan base. Recognizing all of this, we took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back for another season, but in the end it simply wasn’t possible. We wish the cast and crew the best in their future endeavors.”

Bunheads debuted last June to 1.64 million viewers but the ratings declined over the course of the season. ABC Family ordered more episodes but when the show returned in January, the numbers got worse and worse.

The cable channel was supposedly working on finding ways to cut costs so they could bring the show back but those efforts were unsuccessful.

The last episode of Bunheads aired on February 25th and unfortunately left several storylines unresolved.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear the show’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

I have been following bunheads eversince it was aired and been wondering and at the same time waiting for their new season but the news saddens me that abc cancelled it…the last episode was when they were all in the hospital and the girls were saying my captain my captain after that i’ ve been anticipating for the next season episodes but unfortunately i guess like any other shows it comes to an abrupt end leaving some avid viewers hanging…i find bunheads very funny i really liked it a lot hope abc will come up with another show like that with sutton foster she’s very natural and entertaining…and the other casts as well. Godspeed to all the bunheads character.

What a sad series of events. This show managed to give us that feeling we had from watching Gilmore Girls. No wonder, having had the same creator. Ever since the writers strike the networks have wasted our time with “reality” shows that cost only a portion of a scripted show. They “were finding ways to cut costs”? That means they wanted cast and crew to work for nothing. What a waste on all the part of these talented people. I remember when networks were proud of their shows. Too bad those days have past.

    bummer, just found out.

There is no other show like it with the rapid fire dialog and witty comebacks. It was a fun show. There aren’t many shows left that I look forward to seeing but it was one of them.

They could have used a different starting as that probably scared a few people off thinking it was all about dance (which it rarely was)

If ABC Family can’t see that this is a good show it would be nice if another channel picked it up. Such as CW, TNT or USA, they have better shows than most of the regular affiliates anyway! They always cancel the good shows and keep the lousy ones.

Not surprised that this series was cancelled although I did enjoy watching it. I did not agree with many of the messages sent to younger viewers and I was not impressed with the acting.

Cancelled by the same morons who got rid of Kyle XY (still not over that)….they wouldnt know a good show if it smacked them across the face. Sad to see it go :(

In total agreement with Kim’s comments. Stations don’t give shows a chance to establish a
following anymore. Sutton Foster is fabulous. You can’t be taught that. Would be wonderful if ABC Family would reconsider and at least do enough episodes to wrap up some of the story lines.

My husband and I are true fans of the show. The girls were talented, the star (lead character) was hysterical, delivered the best lines very well and it was basically a clean show. We are disappointed. Best of luck to the whole cast.

I am vey sad that ABC Family decided to cancel this wonderful show, I think that it was a stupid decision and they should have let it run at least another season as to not leave the audience hanging on various storylines. It would ne nice to see another season to clear up things that happened so far. I think ABC Family should stop making new stupid shows like the Vineyard. A reality show is not a good idea for ABC Family, this isn’t Oxygen or E!, I think ABC Family should stick to fun, loving shows with witty characters, like Bunheads.

Bunheads is a great TV Show. ABC Family have made a silly decision to cancel this very entertaining show. Why silly? From their statement cancelling the series they “appear” to know they have all the ingredients of a great show, actors, storyline and subject, but have still decided to cancel it! If this isn’t silly, I don’t know what is! Come on ABC Family it’s not too late to reconsider this “silly” decision!
