Castle: ABC TV Series Renewed for Season Three

Castle season threeFollowing two weeks of record-breaking ratings, ABC has renewed their sophomore TV series, Castle, for a third season. This time around, the network’s showing more faith than ever in the series.

Castle revolves around an egotistical novelist (Nathan Fillion) who teams up with a police detective (Stana Katic) to solve crimes in the Big Apple. The drama also features Susan Sullivan, Molly Quinn, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Tamala Jones, Jon Huertas, and Seamus Dever.

Castle debuted in March 2009 and averaged a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.32 million viewers. This past September, season two got off to a slow start with a 2.3 rating and 9.26 million viewers.

Things weren’t looking so great but then the numbers showed signed of starting to pick up. In the last two weeks, Castle has hit some season record highs. Last week, with the help of a Dancing with the Stars lead-in, Castle achieved a 3.3 rating with 12.21 million total viewers. This week, the series hit a 3.5 rating and 13.86 million viewers.

That news has prompted ABC to renew Castle for a third season and to give the show its biggest episode order to date.

Season one of Castle is made up of 10 episodes. For season two, ABC ordered just 13 installments initially but, over the course of the season, upped that to 22 and then 24 episodes. Now, for season three, ABC has given Castle a full season order of 22 episodes right out of the gate.

The news is sure to make many of our readers happy. Castle was the big winner in our “Which bubble show should be renewed?” tournament.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Castle is being renewed? Do you think any changes should be made to the series or should things remain the same?

I LOVE THIS SHOW! It is one of the best mystery shows on TV. Please don’t mess it up by having Nathan and Stana “get together”. It always screws up a show when the writers give in to the idea it will ADD something to the show. It never does.
Plus, question: Besides Patterson, who are the other two authors who play poker with Nathan?

I have watched the show since day one and LOVE it. I love the chemistry between Richard and Kate and the comraderie amongst the team. Richard’s mother and daughter are delightful. I just started reading the book that the seeries was adapted from and thoroughly enjoy it as well. Keep up the good work with this series. Usually all the good shows go away.

CASTLE is by far a favorite though I miss the implied relationship aspect suggested last season. Terrific entertainment all ages can enjoy….I hope and presume they’ll be back on very soon.

This is such a great show. It is just fun to watch. Thankfully, so far, they have refrained from resorting to “SMUT”. Hope they never do..this show stands on it’s own

Reminiscent of the “The Thin Man” style of mystery. Very classy, great acting, great chemistry between all characters in series. Fun to watch. Excellent TV series.

Let go of the trash that passes for series and comedies, especially the “reality” shows which follow certain production lines anyway and are not at all spontaneous.

CASTLE IS THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION NEXT TO NCIS!!!!
I never miss the show or the reruns. Can you get this put on USA or TNT like the Closer so it can be show back to back as a series???

YOU HAVE A WINNER HERE. . .Do not blow it! There is far too much garbage reality trash on television. . . . .excellent shows like you have are few and far between.

So glad to hear that Castle is being renewed. It’s one of our very favorite shows over the past year and a half. Also glad that they are getting a full 22 episodes right off the bat. It is a hit. I think that people who haven’t watched this summer, may be because it was moved to Wed. night. I watch it when not gone and try to make it a point to get back by the time it’s on TV.
Would love to see Beckett and Castle have an understanding about how each other feels yet, not get together. That will kill the show. The tension is one of the things that keeps viewers watching. Anytime these tense relationships get together the shows end up going off the air pretty quick. So, keep it going, ok!

I just found Castle this season and really like it. I am very glad it is back for season 3.

Can you rerun season l and 2 during this off season? Televison programs have become so boring, so violent, and so ridiculous(Reality TV) that there are very few good and entertaining shows to watch.

I will certainly be tuned in each week to Castle.
