CBS 2013-14 Season Ratings

cbs-tv-show-ratingsCBS is still the most-watched network but almost all of their established shows are down year-to-year. Plus, none of their new shows can really be considered hits. Which will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned!

CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Bad Teacher, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Crazy Ones, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Elementary, Extant, Friends with Better Lives, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Hostages, How I Met Your Mother, Intelligence, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Reckless, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, Unforgettable, and We Are Men.

There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.

Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.

Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.

The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.

What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?

I love Hawaii Five-0, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds & Person of Interest! All great shows that I watch each week. Please keep the seasons coming on all of them.

The only reason that The Mentalist ratings are so bad is because the show starts late every week because of football and later on in the seaon other sports. Most people who work aren’t staying up on a Sunday night to watch a show which usually starts 30 minutes late. I DVR The Mentalist every Sunday night because I get up at 5:00 a.m. to go to work.

PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE MENTALIST!!!

I really dont see Hostages being renewed after Dylan surendered!!! The gang would have to break him out of jail. I did like the show, but the writers messed up by wating to uncover why this is going on… They should have started the show with Dylan and wife finding out of her problem. Then he quickly gets a team together to invade the house. Then the first episode should have ended with the President going into surgury!!!

I really do hope they cancel Hostages, it’s so badly scripted. And I also think it’s time for Mentalist to quit too even though I like the show. All in all, I think the ratings are showing which shows should be eliminated.

The shows I watch regularly are NCIS, NCIS LA, Elementary,, TheMentalist, Hawaii 5-0, and 2 Broke Girls. I love NCIS, The Mentalist, and Elementary. Who knows what the powers to be will do. One of my all time favorites was TNT’s Southland, which they cancelled for the medical drama I can’t even remember the name of, but it lasted a blink of an eye before ut was cancelled. I was so pissed! NCIS AND SOUTHLAND are/were the best shows since Westwing or Homicide Life on the Street ect. I hope my shows stay!

I only watch CBS during the work week on Mondays and Thursdays!!! (besides fottball on sundays) I love hostages and they should swap the Mentalist (predicted cancelled) with Hostages!!! Mondays are a tough night for new shows (MNF and WWE amoug others)!!! As far as continuing Hostages, they ccould pull another American Horror story series and have a whole new plot every season!!!

CBS please don’t cancel Hostages!!! I think this is a great show and would love to have a season 5! The connection between Dylan & Toni are perfect! The problem I see with the ratings is that 11 million ppl are watching The Voice and right after is The Blacklist. I think this is killing the ratings for Hostages.

Please keep Hostages… people I talked to didn’t try it at because they couldn’t figure how the show could last keeping the family hostage for a series… Also, keep Mom, it is an intelligent comedy which our society needs since it’s obession with technology enables us to avoid real human emotions, this will help to keep us “real” with a light heart. Thank you.

While Person of Interest rating have changed dramatically from last season to this, it also moved to a new night and a later time. The 10:00 p.m. time slot isn’t friendly to most CBS shows, PoI still rates highest in that time period and is a success for CBS on Tuesdays. There should be an * to show that it moved to a new night and later time, same could be said for H50.
