Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I think this is a bad idea at this time. Perhaps Hallmark should reconsider. I know many people who did not even know about this channel but are watching –After the election. It seems everyone is hungry for comfort of a simple story with happy endings. Perhaps you should reconsider
It is a shame that Cedar Cover is not being renewed 🙁 . It is a lovely show and there is not blood and guts or swearing. It is refreshing to watch and now you cancel it and leave it unfinished!!!!! Makes it a wait of peoples time to watch if there is no ending It just keeps you hanging!!!! NOT FAIR!!!!!!
Yes, they should have a reunion to bring closure to their fan!
What?! I am so disappointed! It is wrong to leave people hanging. I feel like I just lost my friends and for no reason. It has been a pleasure to watch a show that isnt throwing sex and cussing at me every 5 minuets! I am going to miss Cedar Cove. Maybe a movie to finish it up??
Very disappointed that Cedar Cove won’t be back. It was such a sweet, refreshing change from all the sex and violence (and that’s just commercials)! It would be nice to tie up the loose ends that the fans of the show are left with.
I am so disappointed by the canceling of Cedar Cove. It was one of the best series produced in a very long time and a refreshing change from all the violence on TV. Please consider bringing it back, there are many story lines that need to be tied up.
I was so very disappointed not to see Cedar Cove return for another season. It was one of the best series I have seen, and the scenery was gorgeous. There is so much TV on not worth watching, but this was a winner. Please bring back. Plus I would love to see how things turned out.
Please do bring it back. I’ve been waiting for it.
I read the entire Cedar Cove series of books and was thrilled to see it made into a television series. Although the series didn’t follow the books faithfully, I still loved the show and was so sad to learn the series had been cancelled. I would love to see it brought back.
I got tired of the Olivia and Jack back and forth. Nice looking character but he just seemed sleezy for a judge. Every chance he got he appeared tobe flirting with his good AA dark haired friend. Olivia had better people and opportunity in her life. A few other characters seemed out of place but loved the Bed/Breakfast couple, Mr Moon, and Olivias best friend.
I have enjoyed this series so much and am terribly disappointed there is not going to be a season four for Cedar Cove ! Please reconsider!!
Cedar Cove was great the first season and I adored the addition of Colin Ferguson. Sarah smyth is lovely but you never developed her character- give the young woman a job already and one uncomplicated boyfriend! Teryl was sensational but her intended Cliff needed reasonable hair! Cedar Cove is SO Hallmarkesque but the writers needed for the story to really move forward. They never had a plan….Teryl’s daughter- is she coming or going?Where’s her husband? We all LOVED Warren and wanted him to rekindle with his wife…come on bring it back and do BETTER! New writers or form writers who need… Read more »
I could only watch the first few episodes being a huge fan of the books. However, story lines quickly changed drastically from the series to the point where I wondered why they just didn’t come up with an original cast of characters for their story lines from the very beginning. It felt very much like a bait and switch. I haven’t been able to pick up a Debbie Macomber book since. I know there were fans of the show that never read the series, which is why I think if they had just made it 100% original, it probably would… Read more »
Hallmark could easily score big with a made for TV movie, maybe even a two night special to tie up loose ends in Cedar Cove. With a little clever advertising, it could be a ratings winner!! Hallmark does great movies, so stick with what you do best!!
It is hard to see shows getting cancelled when they have such great value in subject matters of real life! Cedar Cove I am sad to say I didn’t get to watch when it was airing, but I just watched the three seasons from my local library and I was addicted to the story lines. They are true story lines and there are many times I felt right there dealing with the same problems as Olivia and Jack. Please know that the Hallmark Channel and shows are great for family viewing and to be able to watch what is right… Read more »
Please bring it back to watch!!!!!! At least finish the fans with season 4….., please
