It’s being reported by various sources that Chuck has cheated death (read: cancellation) once again. NBC has nearly closed a deal that will bring Chuck Bartowski and friends back for a fifth season. TV Line reports that the peacock network is making a deal with Warner Bros for at least 13 episodes.
Of course, cheating death is nothing new for the TV series. It’s been on the bubble each season and has narrowly escaped being cancelled each time. Fortunately for Chuck fans, the rest of NBC’s schedule has been such a disaster that Chuck’s numbers end up not looking so bad. Had the series been on one of the other three major networks, it would have surely been cancelled long ago.
This season, Chuck’s ratings have been the worst yet. The last two episodes have registered a meager 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. The season average is only a 1.7 rating and 5.19 million. Aside from Chase, whose remaining episodes are being burned off on Saturday nights, Chuck is the lowest-rated scripted program currently on the network.
With four seasons and 78 episodes already in the can, it seems very likely that Warner Bros. worked out a deal with NBC for a final season so there would be enough episodes for a syndication package. A sixth season seems highly unlikely but who would have guessed that Chuck would have gone this long?

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Chuck is being renewed? Do you think this will be the end?

I love Chuck super glad that it’s getting renewed. it’s one of my favorite shows on tv
Wow, The Admin replying??
I don’t remembered seeing that in the past….
🙂
But thanks, makes me glad to see that TPTB read the comments.
Grandizer » lol
Huzzah!!!! I shall go to Subway for lunch to celebrate.
If Donald Trump was right when he said his show is the most successful show on NBC at the moment (can someone confirm/deny this?) then NBC really are in a bad place – even worse than I thought. But I’m still extremely happy if they renew Chuck. Ratings does not equal funny or quality shows, if nothing else the ratings really indicate how bad people’s tastes are. Not saying mine is the best, but NBC certainly has better stuff than Celebrity Apprentice.
ES » It’s not true. I believe he had the top show in the demographic for one or two weeks when the show first began but that’s it. Now, it’s not even close to being NBC’s top reality show.
Oh well that’s a relief to know! I know NBC are having their problems these days, but they definitely do have good some shows even if they don’t get the ratings.
I’m from the UK and I love Chuck (I’ve been watching the 4th season along with you guys in America), our TV networks (Living TV) is way behind, and I didn’t want to wait. I’m given to understand that American ratings are based on some Nielsen system? And that this often doesn’t take into account people who don’t have Nielsen box? Personally, I think its got better with each season, more complicated, funnier, more drama. Like a lot of you have said, there’s nothing like it on TV at the moment.
I thoroughly enjoy this show. May be one of the funnier ones out there at the moment. Unfortunately, 13 more sounds like a sendoff, just to wrap everything up. What a shame. This is the only show on the network I watch anymore. Back in the good days, it may have been the only network I tuned to
Funny, now that you mention it….Chuck is only show we watch on NBC as well.
yes!!
Chuck is fun to watch, it was better earlier on but really enjoy the actors and really nothing like it on tv right now…
Let’s hope for the best, i really loved this show. its like love at first sight. i cant get enough of CHUCK FEVER 🙂
IF THERE WOULD BE ANY PETITION TO BE MADE, IN ORDER TO EXTEND THIS GREAT SHOW, WOULD GLADLY HELP.
I’m starting to think NBC really LIKES that #4 spot. A 13 episode order probably means they’re going to wrap it up. So there’s that.
I am beyond happy! I was so happy I was on the verge of tears & shaking. There are hundreds of non-Neilsen families, why should loyal fans lose their show because of Neilsen famlies not watching. Not fair is it!.
I hope they DO renew Chuck for one more season! I love it. Such great escapist FUN!!! =D
You’re right, Chuck is the lowest rated scripted show on the network right now. Aside for Law and Order: LA and The Event of course. Not to mention that Chuck has fared better than other NBC shows this year Outlaw, Undercovers, and The Cape.
Way to make things sound far worse than they are. Not that they aren’t bad, both Chuck’s and NBC’s ratings suck right now, but Chuck’s not as bad (relative to the rest of NBC) as you are portraying.
Adrian » Law & Order: LA and Event have better season averages than Chuck. Take a look: http://tvseriesfinale.com/?p=19830
Outlaw, Undercovers, and Cape are not still on the network schedule.
super glad that it’s getting renewed. it’s one of my favorite shows on tv.
Chuck me 🙂
