Fans of the Community sitcom plan on showing their support for the comedy by staging a flash mob at NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters in New York. The event is scheduled to take place from 1-1:30pm today.
The event’s Facebook page notes, “The Flash Mob will start with the singing of O’ Christmas Troy (same lyrics as O’ Christmas Tree just replacing “Tree’ with “Troy”) while facing the Huge Christmas Tree! It will end with the chant Go Greendale, Go Greendale, GO! … You bring a picture or drawing of a Christmas tree and a Black goatee (which can be made out of construction paper or felt).
The group is also spreading the word on Twitter with the hashtags #OccupyNBC and #SaveCommunity. In addition, tongue-in-cheek posters have been created to help promote and save the show.
As fans are all too well aware, the low-rated comedy has been shelved for mid-season and NBC hasn’t decided when to bring it back. After 10 episodes, Community is the lowest-rated NBC comedy and currently averages a 1.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 3.67 million total viewers. That’s down by 16% in the demo when compared to last season.

What do you think? Does Community deserve to be saved? Do you think events like this help at all?

When will people learn that these demonstrations & campaigns to save a show don’t do any good? The nets all learned a lesson about that when CBS brought back “Jericho” & it soon tanked. Why waste time & effort? The net suits know the demonstrators make up only a small part of their viewers and depend upon the Neilsens to let’em know whether to continue or end a given show.
It’s simple; the new president is a bigger buffoon than the previous one. He gives Chuck a final season so fans can have closure, while Community has a bigger fan base and better ratings, but has been shelved for an unknown hiatus? He’s a joke, zero promotion this season for any series, horrible scheduling and horrible choice in shows (Whitney, seriously?). If they just put Community in the 9:30 slot and advertize it, they may get better ratings. Where it has been since season 1 without any lead-in is not helping the most intelligent show on that network at all. If NBC cancels Community, I hope that Sony takes it over to FX; it’s too good for broadcast anyways. I will also stop watching NBC all together and tell people not to watch their shows, like I have been doing with ABC since May of this year.
What? Big Bang Theory is a joke, not even funny. Community is the best comedy show on NBC right now.
Its a shame if this gets canceled, love the show. Big Bang Theory is the only show I would probably say is better then it as with comedies and of course, they are up against each other.
i think it should be saved but put onto cable as will always have a loyal fan base but it will never get or maintain the numbers that been on Network TV requires but put it on bravo and it’s the top show on the channel personally I would love to see it get put on the USA network as I think it would go so well with things like Psych
