To no surprise, ABC has cancelled the low-rated remake of Cupid. Unfortunately, not enough viewers fell in love with the series.
Revolving around characters played by Bobby Cannavale, Sarah Paulson, Rick Gomez, and Camille Guaty, the show was a product of last year’s writers strike. ABC offered series creator Rob Thomas the opportunity to revisit the “brilliant but cancelled” Jeremy Piven series from 1998.
Unfortunately, times have changed and, as is often the case with remakes, the new Cupid didn’t live up to the reputation of the original. Many felt that the new show wasn’t as good as the original and it was obvious that network agreed. ABC cut its episode order, delayed the premiere, and then cut its order again. When the new Cupid did finally debut, it attracted a limited audience.
In any case, after a brief and low-rated run, ABC is passing on ordering another round. Some 10 years after they cancelled the original, they’re pulling the plug on the remake.
Only six of the seven produced episodes have aired. There may be a DVD release at some point and the “extra” episode would make a nice bonus. Of course, the original Cupid still hasn’t been released so fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
The biggest downside is that fans are left hanging. Unless Thomas decides to spill his secrets, once again we’re left to wonder how the Cupid story would have turned out.

ABC is stupid for not giving this show more of a chance. It was poorly advertised, not to mention it premiered during an awkward time(mid/late spring when every other show is in sweeps). Don’t put shows on the air if you’re not actually going to give them a chance. The acting on this show was great, and the show itself was also very good(i.e. funny and well written). It had major viewer potential, it just needed more time and more publicity. I’m sad to see that ABC has cancelled yet another great show because they were too impatient.
I really find it useless to even watch a show you mite like off their network because it’s a 97 percent chance it will get canceled, ABC is a unreliable network to count on when viewing a new serious you mite love but, ABC want give the show or the people chance to even like it and, further more if they advertise their damn shows more often then they wouldn’t be getting all theses low show ratio ratings
I really liked this show too! I don’t know what day/time slot it had as I only caught it on my Tivo by chance, but maybe it wasn’t given a real opportunity (ie. decent advertising and a prime time spot). I’m sorry more people didn’t watch it – it makes me sad that such a light-hearted feel-good show couldn’t stand up to CSI, Law & Order and the like. Where have all the romantics gone?
this really sucks!
i was really starting to like the series.
it had just the right amount of everything-romance, comedy, looks-everything! i especially liked it because it wasnt about sex-which is the main topic each series is built around these days. I REALLY REALLY WOULD LIKE ABC TO RE-CONSIDER this. please:/
I found this show on abc episodes online. my friend told me i would love it and I watched three episodes and I am now hooked! I can not believe ABC canceled this series. The main actor (cupid) is amazing and I have fallen in love with his acting ability. Each episode is a boost of romantic, lovey dovey happiness and I love seeing different stories of people, falling in love.
I have never seen the original 1998 series, but I really like the updated version. I just wish there was hope! I would have gladly watched this show when it premiered!
ABC, you stink! ABC, you stink! ABC, you stink! ABC, you stink!
Bummer! I finally found a tv series that my 9 y/o daughter can sit down and watch with me. ABC, you stink!
NOOOOOOOOOO.
Im a boy 16 years old.I like metal, football and dont realy like films like this but when I saw this series fel inlove.Im str8 and its not ormal for a boy like me but if there is a second seasonI wold pay all the money I have just to watch it
ABC does suck! I really hate ABC the most because it never gives shows long enough to get a good following. The next time I like the look of show debuting on ABC-I will PASS-this is one more person (make that family actually) that you cannot include in your demographics to advertisers.
ABC SUCKS.
I feel they should do more in this show to prove cupid is real. If he isn’t suppose to be real then the show is not as good I thought,. I hope to see more of it.
Cupid was always a joy to watch. It’s a shame it’s cancelled. I couldn’t wait for the next episode to come on! I knew I could count on it making me smile. I work in a prison so I read horror stories that are REAL life. PreSentence Investigations are a reality to me on a daily basis. I know what it’s like to work with murderers, rapists, and the true horror of the worst humanity has to offer. I agree there are enough cops shows on. Watching a show like Cupid was a welcome break to reality. Some people enjoy something light hearted, silly and just plan funny. The show always seemed to end on a good note. Whoever decided to cancel a show like this is an idiot! Bring it back! Enough gore and horror. Put on something lighthearted and uplifting! What’s wrong with happy endings?
I love this show, I didn’t find out about it till recently. I went on line to figure out when it is normally aired but apparently it’s canceled now. Dang I wish I could do something to help get it back. This version of Trevor so much better.
loved this show, the ratings really suck, people watch tv through other means than TV, hulu, ch131, etc. too bad the idiots that cancel shows don’t look into this. good show!!
I was a fan of the original, and this version was also cute. As other posters said.. there are enough medical dramas and crime shows. I guess I’ll never understand the thought process of network executives.
