Dallas: Should the TNT Series Be Renewed for Season Three?

Dallas cancel or renewed for season 3?This evening, TNT airs the final two episodes of Dallas’ second season and, unlike the price of oil, the ratings have been down. Will the TV series return for a third season or will it be cancelled instead?

The new Dallas picks up several years after the original show ended. Time has passed but the Ewings and the Barnes are still at each others’ throats. And, though Larry Hagman passed away, there’s still plenty of drama at Southfork. The cast includes Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Judith Light.

Last season, the new Dallas was one of TNT’s most-watched dramas, averaging 4.42 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

This time around, the ratings weren’t so hot. The second season has averaged 2.64 million with a 0.8 demo rating. The numbers spiked for the JR Ewing funeral episode but they went back down the following week.

While the ratings admittedly haven’t been as strong this time around, Dallas is still TNT’s best performing show right now. Both Monday Mornings and Southland have only been averaging about 1.4 million viewers.

The cable channel also knows that the show is facing a lot more competition at this time of year — compared to when the first season aired last summer.

While TNT hasn’t cancelled or renewed Dallas yet, it seems very likely that the Ewings will return for another round of in-fighting and deception.

What do you think? Would you like to see Dallas return? Is the show as enjoyable as it once was? Should TNT move it back to summer?

Please renew Dallas for Season 3. Best Show on TV. Superb Writers… The time slot was the issue for the lower ratings this season. Season 2 had you on the edge of your chair. Great storyline and acting. Enjoy the John Ross character just like JR!

Yes! Absolutely! I have been a fan of the show since it first began! Although, it is really different watching now that Larry Hagman has passed on! He was an icon and will be sorely missed! He played his character like no other man I have ever watched! No one else could ever play J.R. Ewing like him! Everyone that watched loved to hate him! He always kept the viewers in suspense from season to season! Please keep the show going for years to come! He would want the show to live on even in his absence! He also managed to make me a Dallas Cowboys fan! I know that they will think of him every time they take the field from now on! I hope that he is able to watch them play from up above! J.R. Ewing will live on forever!

I hope they air a new season of Dallas. I love the show. Look forward to it every Monday night. I love the last show that lasted for 2 hours. I don’t know if that was it but can’t wait for it to air again.

Absolutely Dallas should be renewed for season 3. While it will not be the same without JR, it certainly will be able to stand on its own merits. The scheming John Ross has the ability to be the same scoundrel his daddy was – the whole cast is excellent and now that the Barnes/Ewing situation has finally (we think) been settled, the storyline can go on in new directions. Yes, I agree that this should be a summer series – hard to go up against The Voice in the spring, but it can certainly be a summer series hit. Please TNT renew this fine drama – it is great escapism and for some of us a great blast from the past!

Dallas should be renewed. There’s not many shows (series) on TV worth watching anymore BUT Dallas is Number ONE. This series is as good as the old ones. This is the first show I make sure I don’t miss. RENEW DALLAS for a 3rd Season.

Without a doubt, Dallas should be renewed for Season 3 and beyond. John Ross has the potential to become the same kind of scoundrel his Daddy was – absolutely delicious to watch – and the way he can manipulate his mother is awesome. Everyone in the cast is terrific and the writing is better than ever. No, the show will not be the same without JR, but it has the potential to stand on its own. Season 3 definitely!!!!

The new Dallas shows are awesome. JR was wonderful but now that he’s gone the others can carry on without him, just keeping his name and legacy in the loop. If the network will allow the show to flourish instead of matching it up against such strong opposition, the show will increase in viewers. It’s a great show. Patrick Duffy has what it takes to become the patriarch. Thanks to the network for bring the show back to us.
