Dallas: Should the TNT Series Be Renewed for Season Three?

Dallas cancel or renewed for season 3?This evening, TNT airs the final two episodes of Dallas’ second season and, unlike the price of oil, the ratings have been down. Will the TV series return for a third season or will it be cancelled instead?

The new Dallas picks up several years after the original show ended. Time has passed but the Ewings and the Barnes are still at each others’ throats. And, though Larry Hagman passed away, there’s still plenty of drama at Southfork. The cast includes Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Judith Light.

Last season, the new Dallas was one of TNT’s most-watched dramas, averaging 4.42 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

This time around, the ratings weren’t so hot. The second season has averaged 2.64 million with a 0.8 demo rating. The numbers spiked for the JR Ewing funeral episode but they went back down the following week.

While the ratings admittedly haven’t been as strong this time around, Dallas is still TNT’s best performing show right now. Both Monday Mornings and Southland have only been averaging about 1.4 million viewers.

The cable channel also knows that the show is facing a lot more competition at this time of year — compared to when the first season aired last summer.

While TNT hasn’t cancelled or renewed Dallas yet, it seems very likely that the Ewings will return for another round of in-fighting and deception.

What do you think? Would you like to see Dallas return? Is the show as enjoyable as it once was? Should TNT move it back to summer?

SAVE IT!! Monday night is a bad day to air (Football, life in general)
I also agree it would be better in the summer – it was the best thing on last summer and I LOVED it all winter – but if it will save it – June is ok with me as long as it comes back!

I’m a Dallas Fan from the UK , who started watched Dallas from the very first episode back in 1978, I was 5 at the time…nearly 40 this year ….so a long time.I have never missed an episode and seen all the movies. I was gutted when Dallas ended. When it was first announced that Dallas was coming back last year I was a little skeptical that it wouldn’t be as good as…but from the moment Season 1 episode 1 aired it was like it had never been of air. Cynthia Cidre is an amazing writer and I hope it continues for many years.

The show must return… this is one of the best shows on TV, nothing else compares…I’ve been watching Dallas since it began when I was a kid with my grandma until it ended, and when I heard it was coming back I was thrilled…I have every season of the original series and now I’m collecting these as well.. It just keeps getting better, I’ve been able to help bring others along, catch them up on the characters and plots, and they enjoy even more!…It should not be canceled, It should be celebrated!

yes it should. they can keep it interesting for sure. I was young and kind of wild when the first one was on years ago, so I didn’t watch it much as I viewed it as a soap opera/chick flick, like I said , I was young and dumb, but hey, my wife did watch it back then, and she caught me up on who was who, during the first season and I can honestly say, we both want to watch it more. we record it if we are to busy to watch it at the regular time. did you factor in the folks who did record it, and watched it anyway later. it just seems to keep getting better and better!

The best show on TV. Better than Revenge and Scandal. If people discover it, they will be hooked!
