I just watched the final episode of Deadwood as well. I just googled it to see when the new season was starting. I didn’t have HBO when it was originally shown. So, I thought this was a new show. I can’t believe it was cancelled. We are living through the worst case of trash t.v. to date. Deadwood was a ray of hope that quality was making a comeback. Shame on the people responsible for ending it.

Just watched the last of deadwood. Great show! I’d like a final season. Truth be told Rome was just as good if not better. Think that show could use another season. John from Cincinatti, looked like a good idea but it really kind of sucked. Also “in treatment”? what rip off. Horribly boring. Just because something is cheap doesn’t mean it should be made. I could have made a better show in my garage with film students. Haven’t really seen anything good out of HBO lately. I think HBO did groundbreaking work with Sopranos, the Wire, Deadwood, and Rome. Second to none. Now they are making garbage not worth watching. End of an era I guess.

Deadwood was the best series ever. I have been able to get so many of my friends to watch it and they all love it. I have watched it about 5 times and never get sick of it. It just cant finish like this, we need a fourth season at least to finish it off.

My sister in-law gave us Series one and we were hooked we watched series 1-3 in 10 days without break. No ending so I will leave it to my imagination but how I wish there are more to watch….

Deadwood is by far, the best series I had ever seen. Full of wits and every scene is so enjoyable it makes you want to be inside it even as a WU sidekick!

Mr Milch, I congratulate you and thank you very much for your genius. I should hope you’d release Series four, in paperback perhaps?

Milch could have given the fans some closure and screw up royally. And that “John From Cinncinatti” had to be one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen!

BUT…HBO has a chronic history of cutting its most popular shows short. Carnival, Rome, Deadwood, several others. They let the Sopranos run far too long till it was so stupid I couldn’t watch any more. These other shows had YEARS of material left in them and I have no story closure. ********!

Lets hope Showtime doesn’t do this with the Tudors.

As so many fans would agree, the way they ended this show was very disappointing. It was a great western with a good story line. It is ashame that it does not have an ending. After seeing all three seasons and seeing how it was ended I don’t see why anyone would buy the DVD’s, unless, they, someday have an ending for this great show. DAVID MILCH NEEDS TO GIVE THIS CLOSURE SOMEHOW!!!!!

Never was much into westerns save for Eastwood’s Unforgiven.
My husband got this show & I couldn’t get into it.
Then about a month ago, I just wanted to see it & I was hooked!
My favorite characters being Bullock & Al. I even liked the eccentric Richardson & mouthy Trixie.
Such a shame this show is to stay buried.
It’s been 3 yrs now so I doubt the show will get an ending. As I type this, I still have 3 episodes left of Season 3.
I’m drawing it out..
All the great ones seem to just cancelled.

What a shame….. I had never really heard of Deadwood till a friend lent me the series.
Brilliant is all that comes to mind in every aspect. I never felt unsatisfied with any episode, however ending the series in such a manner was extremely disappointing. Perhaps if the TV series proves to be impossible to continue, could the writers contact a publishing house to release the rest of the story in a series of books?

I welcome any solution HBO can come up with, as long as the viewers get the satisfaction of an adequate (although spectacular would be more like it) ending.

Guys, it’s not entirely HBO’s fault. Be sensible here. HBO is a business. They are in it to make money. The facts are these. At the time, HBO was facing a crossroads, between Rome Season 2 and Deadwood Season 4. Both are monumentally expensive shows, and HBO could really only afford to greenlight one for its final season. Rome drew more ratings, and thus more subscription bills being paid. HBO is not without a heart though. They recognized that Deadwood had a strong fanbase despite having lower ratings than Rome. They originally offered to allow Milch to do a 6-episode season to close out the story. He refused. They then offered to allow him to do two 2-hour episodes to close out the story. He sat on it, while filming JFC. HBO was paying the salaries of the all the actors in Deadwood while Milch sat on his decision. The Deadwood cast is huge, larger than most television casts. It is a costly responsibility for HBO to pay the actors and getting no work out of them because ONE man cannot make up his mind.

In the end, HBO was forced to release the actors from their contracts because the cost was just too great to sustain. Now ask yourselves this, who’s fault is it that Deadwood didn’t get it’s just dessert? HBO could have canned the show and washed their hands of the fanbase entirely, but instead they presented Milch with TWO alternatives to not only give Deadwood it’s deserved finale, but also please HBO subscribers and Deadwood fans. Milch was unwilling to compromise, and instead tried to make a point, even though there was absolutely no way for him to get what he wanted (a full Deadwood season). So don’t blame HBO for the lack of a Deadwood Season 4. Blame Milch for being too stubborn to accept a compromise. If he had, we all would have seen the finale by now, and it probably would have been 100 times better than JFC season 1.

I’ve fallen in love with the series Deadwood. What could’ve made HBO cancel this terrific series? Why not simply keep the show going and pay the actors whatever they would have required to stay in the show? Its almost always a matter of money that decides these things. Deadwood was so unique and had such a huge following that I can’t imagine why they stopped running this series. Such a waste! If there was any show I would wish to come back, more than any other, it’d be Deadwood! I love the repeats and miss the show a lot because eventually the repeats will end as well.

I know all good things come to an end. I could understand HBO’s need to
cancel Deadwood if they had something, anything better or equal to it on
their schedule. Have I missed what that might be? Certainly not “John from
Cinncinnati”. Louis CK, whew, that really sucked. I’ve read many of the comments
that were submitted and it seems that we really need more Deadwood. Please,
you’re more than willing to let us pay for HBO every month, give us a voice.
At lease do the movies to give us closure.

My Buddy and I rushed home every night with boyish excitement, fireplace burning, Labrador at our feet, dinner on the TV trays, each with one beer with the meal, laughing hysterically together imitating Jane by shouting *ock*ucker and eagerly settling in to watch DEADWOOD. We find out it’s cancelled. Our hearts are in our feet now. “BIG MISTAKE—HUUUUUGE” Not to add ‘insult to misery’, but if HBO is content to allow this, I along with the greater populace am gravely concerned for them and their future. Distaste in the mouth of a few hundred thousand people turns permanently into a foul disgust to a few million. Word of mouth can destroy and nothing passes faster, not even the media.

The show triggered my visit to Deadwood,SD. durying this years Black Hills motorcycle ralley in Sturgis. Though I was dissapointed to find the modern Deadwood, dead of any ties to it’s past, (except the cemetery) I loved the acting, writing, the dark comedy, and the reality of what it must have been like in a wild ass mineing town that the series provided. HBO pres. Carolyn Strauss should have been fed to George Hurst’s goons for lack of good business sense. At the very least she would make a nice meal for Wu’s pigs. Way to go HBO. I am canceling as of today!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to know how Deadwood ends, then check the history books. The show is fairly historically accurate. That ******* Hearst made lots of money and went on to start a publishing empire, presumably in order to manipulate public opinion of himself, which exists to this day. He also passed his genes on to Patty Hearst, kidnapped and brainwashed by the SLA. The Bullock Hotel, built on the site of the hardware store still exists today and you can get a room there if you want to see how Deadwood has turned out.

I had seriously contemplated getting HBO so I could watch Deadwood, you might say, ‘hot off the presses’, but NOW I have decided NOT, NOT, NOT to get HBO. Obviously, the $$ guys at HBO know how to START something that will draw viewers but are unable to KEEP their subscribers. They can ‘get it up’ but ‘cant KEEP it up’! Think I will just get the boxed sets and watch them over and over and bypass extra charges on my dish bill.

The management at HBO infuriates me. Carnivale – one of the most unique and creative TV series I ever watched – ended abruptly two yrs ago. Now they’ve sent Deadwood and Rome out to pasture and thus far the Sopranos finale seems to be a rush to conclusion. I like Big Love and The Wire but I don’t know if that’s enough to keep me and many others subscribed.

HBO MGMT – STOP CANCELLING YOUR BEST PROGRAMS. CHARGE A FEW EXTRA BUCKS. MOST WILL HAPPILY PAY FOR QUALITY ORIGINAL SHOWS VS. REPEATING MOVIES WE’VE ALREADY SEEN.

I definitly canceled my script a way back and 10 of my friends in addition, in fact I am not surprized how many people I personnaly know who have not bothered getting HBO in many moons anyway.

Greed mongers of commerce win again, is nothing important.
When we are gone what will they find in our caves and dwellings, paintings or coins? Bravo is a reality channel, most of the good music never sees the light of day and when it does its usually ruined by some marketing ass that forces the artist to comprimise or go back to waiting tables.

You people with alot of money in the gate keeper roles who deny the collective soul of humanity its expression, through your greed deserve your front row seat in Dante’s Inferno. May you arrive there soon.

May somebody with more soul than love of $$ please save this show.

Hmm I wonder if there is not political ass kissing going on here, Deadwood does not exactly present our country in the light the current administration would warm up to.

First it was Carnivale with no resolution and now Deadwood. Albeit Rome was canceled much too soon, at least we got a decent final episode as we did with Six Feet Under. We understand that these aren’t easy shows to make but that is why we SUBSCRIBE.If we wanted to watch mindless TV, we’d watch Survivor and American Idol and a lot of the other easy to make mush on network TV. With a few exceptions FX and now Showtime with shows like Weeds and The Tudors are putting out the only decent shows on television. As soon as the Sopranos is over we are done. Maybe it’s a Time-Warner thing. After all look at CNN. Maybe they figure if there are no minor celebrities dying (AN Smith) or no white chicks being kidnapped or murdered, then there is no point in putting it on TV. Then again we’ll just go ahead and cancel and wait for the final season of the Sopranos to come out on DVD. Then we’ll borrow that from a friend so we don’t give HBO anymore revenue.

Just discovered Deadwood in the boxed set and loved every minute of it. Devastated to find it will end before its time, but recommend to everyone to watch their favourite series like this one on DVD. That way, you get to watch as many episodes as you like back to back, you skip the stupid ads and you don’t pay a subscription which, largely, you don’t want.

I am very disappointed that Deadwood will not be aired anymore. My husband and I enjoyed this show as it had some substance and gave insight into the way things were in the older times.

The acting was superb and our hats go out to all of them. How will we know how this show will finish?
Up to now, we have said that the History Channel has great shows, but this is not very tactful to leave its viewers hanging in mid air.

Hope that this will change and they will be able to continue this series.

It seems a shame HBO doesn’t get what is so obvious, adults enjoy creative and well acted shows that continue to deliver stimulating entertainment. When the communities nominate the shows for multiple awards one might think the message is “Winner” lets keep this going just like we have the other awarded shows. But someone went to sleep at the switch, to which the only appropriate response is “HBO . . . throw your selves off the balcony!” your not getting anymore of my money for cheesy movie reruns I can see for free everywhere else. Having only one quality show per week just isn’t worth the extra money.

I just heard on the RADIO HBO was cancelling Deadwood. Unbelievable!!! Jesus Christ it’s always about the bottom line with these people. They keep raising their rates,, we keep paying, they keep buying bigger houses and bigger SUVs, we keep hanging on for a year between seasons paying for dead air space. HBO you guys suck. I’m done thanks for saving me a few bucks we only kept HBO because of Deadwood after Sex and the City ended.

The incredible dialogue in “Deadwood” gave me some hope for the America media and cinema. Somebody actually seemed to give a damn about creating something well-written and well-crafted instead of pandering to the lowest common denominator. Of course, we just can’t have that. Maybe, it is better to burn out than fade away…. Who knows?

The way the last season of a ground breaking series ended without ending the story, the lack of insight to not do everything in your control to keep it going, the failure to listen to the faithful longtime supporters and subscribers of HBO, are nothing less than a crime. The lack of intelligence is staggering, The simple fact they would even consider canceling this series is unbeleiveable. Someone needs to walk into hbo with a big check book and or a baseball bat and get **i* done.

I love Deadwood as well… really the best part of HBO was all the original series. I will always give a new HBO series a chance but it seems they are killing off Deadwood in it’s prime. I am not a fan of westerns but this is simply great actors, great dialouge and great entertainment.

Hopefully Rome can keep on building on the first season and The Wire can come up with a good twisting plot for this season. The rest of the line up has been fairly weak since Six Feet Under ended.

Oh well here is to hoping a 4th season is created so the series can end properly… not just gutted on the floor with no closure.

Shame on you. Deadwood is the best written show on HBO. It’s just another case of some “number cruncher” having no idea what good television is about. Bravo, to all you ******** at HBO for not being in touch with your customers. Enjoy, your exodus!

Deadwood is the ONLY reason to keep HBO, I always cancel after Deadwood is over, hopefully another network will pick up this true western way of life series

we will not be renewing our subscription to HBO once the final Deadwood movies are done. Hbo made a mistake, and lost this customer, by cancelling Deadwood.

likely, we will cancel HBO at the end of season 3, and renew just for the movies, and cancel again. there isnt any point in keeping it. the whole reason we HAVE HBO is because of Deadwood….

First “Six foot Under”, now “Deadwood” is going.

What next HBO? reality TV perhaps…

Looks like “FX” is the only tv station left to produce quality programming. “Rescue Me”, “Always Sunny in Philedelphia”, “The Shield”, “Thief”, “Nip and Tuck”, etc. Oh ya, and you don’t have to pay for it!

Watch out HBO, FX is passing you!! Maybe they will come up with a Western Comedy next like “The Horse Lisperer” etc.
