Indeed a good reson to cancel HBO and as a subscriber I still insist they make the Deadwood situation right, how can one trust these people with your valuable time, who would watch half a movie, read half a book? Perhaps the only answer is the Jericho solution………….what happened to CBS when they attempted to cancel a serries midstream. There is too much competition to put up with this treatment, and at this point I don’t really care how much it cost to make it right because cost are derrived from poor planning and bad mistakes, and sometimes you have to eat it it to stay in business.
What is unfortunate is they will probably do this to me again…..”Game Of Thrones”

as for most of what has followed Deadwood, inferior crap and even their boxing sucks…………and by the way shows that interest me are being made on general package networks, FX, USA, and the like and for the fools that underestimate the consumer, ah let them also under estimate the voters……………Ron Paul 2012

I agree 100% and feel exactly the same way everyone else does towards HBO. I may be a little late here with this comment however, after revisiting the series “again” as I sometimes do, I have to say I feel just as annoyed and negatively as I did towards HBO when I saw how they ended Deadwood with that last episode four years ago (which IMO is completely undeserving for a series as great as Deadwood was).

And just as I did back in ’06, (as well as every time I revisit) I search the net (which is what led me to this site) hoping to find news of the return of Deadwood (the best, and the last great series HBO would ever produce, IMO).
Still I remain a faithful fan of the series today as do so many others. I guess I know now it won’t ever be properly finished, but it surely deserved to be and definitely should have been. Who ever it was at HBO that had the final say ending Deadwood the way they did, should be ashamed of themselves and I hope their careers ended just as abruptly and suddenly.

Like many people, when HBO cancelled Deadwood, Inside the NFL, and Arliss…..then
I cancelled HBO. HBO is not the network it once was and not worth the subscription anymore.

There are many of us in Florida and Georgia as well that are dissapointed in the lack of closure to the deadwood series.I thought HBO was reliable,does anyone know why they did not pickup deadwood? Also can’t one of the other channels pick it up? Or is it tied to a “if we don’t broadcast it no one can kinda deal? Very sad & curious. It was the best thing HBO ever did for the history/western lovers of America.TJ

Dead wood, Rome, Sopranos. Where will HBO stop? I am going to cancel HBO from my subscription with these decisions. You get a quality program and then you cancel for reasons that viewers never understand. I guess HBO does not like it at the top.

Truly shows the concern HBO has for it’s fans. Perhaps the vulgarity and violence were too much for some to accept, but there are enough fans that an impact would be made by cancelling subscriptions until there was some reaction from the “powers” at the network. Nice job HBO, all good returns to those who deserve it.

I have bragged about HBO being the best source for anyone interested in outstanding, original, way above almost all TV shows. For that matter, many high production Hollywood junk didn’t compare to Deadwood or shows like Sapranos, Six FT Under, etc. For you to pull the best show going is insane. I wil brag no more. In fact, I can do nothing but put you down as a “Used to be.” But you’re real good at pissing people off now. To hell with H bs O. You should go broke soon and the scabs in charge institutionalized in a high risk mental facility. Or better yet, offed at a dog pound. Let the dogs go and keep intelegent life safe. I am a huge Deadwood fan, so much so, that Deadwood time was like personal time for me.I took a break from the rest of the world,and got involved with something realistic on T.V. Not since I was a child watching the now ” Classics” have I ever watched anything more, I even watched the re-runs It took me there. It’s a shame that HBO would just drop the ball on something so Great.One show and any one watching with me was hooked. I wish the EXECUTIVES at HBO gave a HOOT, but it’s obvious they don’t. That says alot about them, we the Enormous fans of Deadwood deserve so much better!!!!

I constantly go on line to HBO to see if Deadwood is coming back! Is it or not? Our son and family are in Belgium and have watched the video’s of Deadwood and we have promised to let them know when it’s back. There are some stupid replacements on, not any can compare to DEADWOOD.

I can’t believe HBO and Mr. Milch could do this to all Deadwoods’s loyal fans, especially to replace with the stupid show John from Cincinnati. My husband and I watched the first episode of that show (before we realized it was the reason Deadwood went off the air)and it was AWFUL! While I hope the movies are made I am also beginning to doubt that they will be. Thanks a lot HBO.

We have to learn to expect that a very high quality program has no chance for a long life in American Television.

Unlike on the BBC where a quality show can run for decades, in America any well-done, outstanding projects are destined for the dust bin. We are a nation of ADDled brains. We can watch a show like American Idol for six years & millions of Americans are clamoring for more.

I cannot find any satisfaction even from the knowledge that I am not and never will be a watcher of even a minute of that drivel because I’d rather just read. By the way, for those Deadwood fans who cannot get enough of that period and are looking for a quality fix should go to the bookstore or library and Buy/borrow – Son of the Morning Star by Evan Connell. This book will help you relive the old west and especially give you a background for the Deadwood series and it will also help those who are wondering what happens next. All the answers are in the history books but this one is a great read.

My wife and I canceled HBO based on the fact they canceled Deadwood. Soprano’s last 3 seasons sucked. Deadwood was the only show that continued to live up to the first episode. HBO, you suck! Let showtime or some other outlet pick it up, perhaps FX?

I am absolutely thrown. I have patiently been waiting through all the bullsh*t hbo tv movies, waiting for deadwood to come back on….. OK, first Carnivale, then six feet under, and now this? Oh, sh*t, who is picking this crap for us to pay to watch!?!?!?!? I am soooooo disappointed. What the f**k do these people think they are doing that they pull three shows, well four, if you want to count Sopranos, when they are at the height of the popularity. OK Sopranos was dying. But Carnivale and Deadwood have been like intense foreplay with no sex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have lost all faith in the powers to be on tv. Unbelievable….just unbelievable.

Talk about a huge fan of Deadwood I even thought about moving there,Crazy I know but I got so wrapped up in the series and then bam noting I’ve had it with HBO I will not invest any more time or money either if Mr.Milch does not pull his head out…I can’t beleive he would start a new series until Deadwood was finished. I would like to start to watch a new series (King Henry) is he going to do that to this one?

When I saw the promos for this summers new HBO series line-up, I was sick. I mean who watches this stuff? John from Cincinatti? As soon as they said from the creators of Deadwood I vowed never to turn it on in protest. HBO went from being a really cool network to a pay version of Lifetime. Rome is the only good show left, are they going to just cancel that as well? Maybe they can replace that with some boring show too. I can’t even remember the names of the other new shows since they looked so uninteresting. We may never get Deadwood back, but it’s a lesson learned that HBO has no loyelty to it’s fan base. Mmmm wonder what’s on Showtime?

I’m a biggggg Deadwood Fan myself and have been waiting patiently for those so called tv finale specials…..but unfortunatly I have to agree with Brian….I don’t think we’re going to be seeing anything happening….I can’t imagine doing the specials without the original cast….I’m sure I wouldn’t be interested in watching it without the original actors…what a big disappointment….I haven’t watched any other series since the cancellation of Deadwood….what is the point since they leave you hanging like they did with Carnivale and Deadwood…

Okay guys, the thing with Deadwood was just a bad series of events. For one, HBO allegedly couldn’t afford producing Rome and Deadwood. HBO sunk over $150m into Rome’s Season 2 sets (they were huge). Because of this, the approximate $90m that another season of Deadwood would require was out of reach. They couldn’t scrap the show they already invested $150m into, and David Milch at the time was beginning work on his new show and was unsure if he wanted to continue Deadwood. This led HBO to put Deadwood up on the chop block, with the loose stipulation that Milch could film 2 two-hour movies.

That’s all fine and dandy, but here’s where HBO really puts the final nail in the coffin: They release all the actors from their contracts. This is fatal to a big-production show such as Deadwood, since almost all of the actors are already high-demand talents. The chances of getting all of their schedules aligned for the 2 two-hour movies now is a longshot at best. If you notice, Ian McShane cotinually expresses his frustration in interviews, that there’s “no word” on when those movies are coming. Basically, it would be impossible to coordinate that it’s almost too daunting to even try. I hate to say it, but unless some magic is worked, Deadwood’s only finale is the one in the history books

Ok, this is getting real old. We watch several HBO series. Our top ones were Deadwood, Rome, Soprano’s & 6ft. Under. 3 of the 4 are over and only 6 Feet Under had a consistant run w/ an ending. The 2 yr waiting period between Soprano’s was ridiculous & pulling Deadwood is even a bigger joke.

HBO should pull that discusting Big Love & give us back Deadwood. I’m very tempted to cancel my subscription.

I am utterly upset this season that HBO has decided for some inane reason not to air Deadwood this year. As well as other viewers, I fell in love with that show and looked forward to seeing it every week. I am appalled that HBO would do something like this without any explanations to its viewers. For the amount of money we pay for the service, I feel maybe they should have taken a national poll of their viewers to find out what it is we want. Without us paying customers, there would be no HBO.

It is really a shame that HBO
listens to people who should not even be watching a program such as Deadwood. As it might infringe on one of the so called right to watch Mary Poppins on all HBO channels 24/7. It is just as stupid as when NBC canceled Kingpin after just one season.

Stay on top of this, please. We were HUGE Deadwood fans. (My son, in fact, was born there). It was television like I’ve never seen…before or since. How many shows can you cite that were written in iambic pantameter? It was like profane Shakespeare. I would LOVE to see these two movies get made.
