Deception: To Be Cancelled or Renewed for Season Two?

Deception on NBC cancelled or renewed? With Revolution taking a break, NBC decided to try a new Monday night drama, Deception. Has it been a ratings success for the network or will it end up being cancelled like so many of their other Monday night dramas?

On Deception, a wealthy party girl has been mysteriously murdered. Her childhood friend, now a San Francisco narcotics detective, is convinced by her former partner to go undercover into the wealthy world she thought she’d left behind. The cast includes Laz Alonso, Meagan Good, Victor Garber, Katherine LaNasa, Tate Donovan, Wes Brown, and Ella Rae Peck.

The series debuted in January to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.66 million total viewers. Those were hardly impressive numbers and were less than half of what Revolution’s premiere drew a few months earlier. Year-to-year however, it was a big improvement over the ratings NBC was getting for Rock Center with Brian Williams.

In week two, Deception’s ratings dropped more than 20% to a 1.6 demo rating and 4.14 million. That was not positive — and the ratings kept falling. As we now near the end of Deception’s 11 episode run, the ratings seem to have stabilized at a 1.1 demo rating with about 3.3 million viewers.

Those numbers are terrible and certainly there’s no ratings justification for NBC to renew Deception for a second season. They cancelled shows like Chase and The Playboy Club and they had better numbers than Deception.

On the positive side, at least NBC aired all of the episodes. Unfortunately, viewers are unlikely to ever get their storyline questions answered.

But, what do you think? Should NBC stick with Deception and give it another shot next year or should they cancel it instead? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

Its a great show. You just can not jump in right in the middle. Just catch up during the off-season and the next season will be just as good.

Keep Deception! I love the show. I never get to catch the episodes when they air, but I do watch them OnDemand. Keep it! =)

I think this show deserves a season 2. It continued to get better and better and I think will unravel as we see another season. One thing I will say is that Monday nights may not be a good night for airing. It seems that several NBC shows just aren’t catching with audiences and that is definitely something to look at.

I love Deception…one of the best show on TV! I just think that there is a variety of shows…and people are all over the place…when it come down to watching TV on a Monday night..but I think producers should advertise the show more…give it another season!!!

This show regardless of the ratings is exciting, adventurous and mind blowing. “Deception” needs to be brought back for a second season there is too many questions that has been unanswered that the fans have the right to know. NBC just needs to market and advertise this show more to raise its raings and views.

Love the show, didn’t see catch the first episode. I started watching on Primetime Demand and have seen ever episode. At first I was saying to my self with this story line how far can Deception go but I realize with all the secrets and plots , as long as you keep the characters interesting you can go on forever.

Deception is that show that was good when it premiered but became even better with each new episode. My WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD will be destroyed if I read somewhere from NBC that they decided to cancel this show due to ratings. (I jest). But seriously, RENEW this show NBC! I love you.

    But not.

I enjoy watching Deception and I’m curious to find out whether the show will continue into another season or are we done. This is a show that I enjoy watching with my wife once I get home from working at DISH. I used to have trouble trying to get all my primetime shows recored bucasue I didn’t have enough TVs. In the past, I’d have a lot of timer conflicts and all my DVRs were busy recording so my family wasn’t able to watch live TV. I made the upgrade to the DISH Hopper DVR which offers the PrimeTime Anytime feature. I can get the 4 major networks recorded automatically during primetime hours on one TV. It’s great not having to pick and chose my shows and I don’t have to remember to set up timer a timer for my shows. This keeps things simple and allows me to watch my recordings on any TV too.
