Dogs in the City: To Be Cancelled or Renewed for Season Two?

Dogs in the City on CBS canceled renewedSome say that network television has gone to the dogs. CBS was hoping that canines would bring them some big ratings with Dogs in the City. Were they right? Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Dogs in the City follows Manhattan’s Justin Silver, the “go-to guy” for all things dog-related. In each installment, he meets with clients who have problems with their canines. Justin gets as imaginative as necessary to reach a satisfying resolution, often finding that the owners have as much to learn as their pups.

The TV series debuted on May 30th to a disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.72 million total viewers. The premiere drew less than half of what FOX attracted in the demo with So You Think You Can Dance and only narrowly beat some sitcom repeats on ABC.

Should Dogs in the City be renewed?

In week two, Dogs in the City fell 31% in the demo, to a 0.9 rating with 5.15 million. The next few weeks’ ratings rose a bit but the numbers still weren’t very positive. The six episodes of the season averaged just a 1.0 demo rating with 5.29 million viewers.

Compared to CBS’ other summer original programs, Dogs in the City was the lowest-rated show for weeks — until their (already cancelled) 3 series came along. That’s a pretty poor distinction.

While Dogs seems to have attracted a small but loyal audience, there sadly doesn’t seem like much reason for CBS to renew it for a second season.

But, what do you think? Do you like the TV series? Do you think that Dogs in the City should be cancelled or renewed?

I think that had the show aired at a more opportune time (a.k.a. Summer when everyone is busy) it would have gotten better ratings. It really is a great show and my family and I learned so much from it. Plus our dog thoroughly enjoyed watching it as well. I think it definitely should come back but not during the summer!!

Great show. I really would love to see it come back. It’s a learning show on how to train your dogs to do what you would like them to do. I get my friends involved in watching the show and it’s been canceled. No can do. Please give it a better chance and renew the series.

I love this show! So sad if it is not continued. My grandmother and I watch it every morning. Figures that a good wholesome show doesn’t continue and the others that are full of junk will. Justin keep on… you make a huge difference in so many lives.

I absolutely love Dogs in the City, but there didn’t seem to be a lot of advertisement for the show. Justin is very down to earth and his teaching tactics are so simple. I and many others would love to watch it another season; perhaps on another channel?

I am so glad to have found this opportunity to express my feelings for dogs in the city. I just loved this show! Justin definitely understands dog behavior. This first season proved Justin definitely knows how to help dog owners with many issues that they encounter. The way he related to the dogs in season one was just adorable and nothing but cute!!!! Please CBS give this show another chance.

I watched “Dogs in the City” every week. I loved it! I never watch any other reality type shows, but this one I found so helpful with my rescue dog. Please, bring it back to regular TV – I don’t have cable or whatever.

Dogs in the City is a refreshing take on reality shows especially those in the romance genre which are a useless waste of air time. We have learned so much about dog behavior, training and the dog’s role in a household from the examples Justin Silver introduced in the show. Plus he is an interesting and sincere individual who comes across as a “friend” in an entertaining way. Please do not cancel this show. It’s a winner!

Good show, and I agree with Robycop3, it is just on the wrong network. Animal Planet should pick this show up, it has the right audience for it. Although the Dog Whisperer would probably have a fit.
