A comedy based on the Animal Media Group web series, the Downward Dog TV show centers on Nan (Tolman), and is narrated by her philosophically inclined and rather forlorn dog, Martin (voiced by Hodges).
Martin tells Nan’s story from the perspective of woman’s best friend. The comedy explores the ups and downs of modern-day human life, through the eyes of a devoted dog.
Nan is trying to negotiate a trying job, as well as her unfair, narcissistic boss, Kevin (Rothbart), while dealing with turmoil in her private life. Sometimes, the tumult distracts her from what Martin considers her priorities.
When he can’t have Nan’s undivided attention, Martin feels isolated and neglected and, as a result, acts out. Consequently, the two attend obedience school, which gives them a fresh perspective on the importance of their relationship.
Meanwhile, Nan is trying establish boundaries with her her ex-boyfriend Jason (Neff), while still retaining him as Martin’s dog walker. Rounding out Nan’s circle is her human best friend and co-worker, Jenn (Howell-Baptiste).

What do you think? Do you like the Downward Dog TV show? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Absolutely renewed! Best sitcom on T.V.
Sad, it was a great show.
I was upset to learn Downward Dog has been cancelled. I love this show and can name many that should’ve been cancelled and not this one. Ugh!!!
what you doing in cancelling great & funny shows and leaving awful shows on the air. this dog and cast are funny and I love this dog. please renew
I am upset that Downward Dog has been cancelled. I looked forward to watching it. It was a real treat. Please bring it back.
I loved this show!! I have three dogs…it was funny and poignant. please tell me that this is not final
Downward Dog is original, funny, poignant, and intelligent. ABC hardly gives a show a chance by showing just a few episodes in the summer. The writing is brilliant, the characters realistic… even Martin! Isn’t this exactly what we THINK our dogs are thinking? ABC, or another station with more heart, should reconsider.
I am so sad that Downward Dog was cancelled. ABC didn’t give the show a chance. It was such a great, insightful program that we thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot understand the shows ABC is cancelling and those ABC are keeping on….which are rubbish….. Please reconsider the cancellation….
Unbelievable, these morons at ABC wouldn’t know a good show if it bit them
I really liked this show.Sure hate to hear it will not be back.
I hate you people.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised by this decision. It seems every time a network airs something original, intelligent, and entertaining (which is rare), they cancel it in favor of dumbed down, unoriginal “formula” style programs. Downward Dog was smart, funny, and the quality of the acting was first rate. Please reconsider this decision and bring back a show I actually enjoy.
Please.
I’m begging here.
Who are the network wizards that came up with the horrible decision to cancel this awesome show? This is my new favorite show!!! Please fire the network wizards that cancelled it and bring it back!!!
I was so sad this was cancelled!! I just loved this show so much!! One of the best ones on! I laughed at Martin and his funny sayings. I can relate to this show bc I have 5 dogs of my own and it cracked me up to watch this. PLEASE bring this show back. It would be a great Friday night show!!
Like so many others, I’m unhappy and frankly shocked that Downward Dog was canceled. I don’t even have a dog right now, but I love Martin – his looks, his voice and the way he gives us a “dog’s-eye” view of the world. I can’t imagine anyone not liking this clever, innovative show. Please give it another chance
