Dracula: Cancel or Keep the NBC TV Series?

Dracula TV show: cancel or keep?Grimm has done very well for NBC on Friday nights and is one of their highest-rated dramas. How has Dracula been performing? Is it safe or likely to be cancelled?

Based on the classic Bram Stoker story, Dracula takes place in London. The title character (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) poses as an American entrepreneur while he seeks revenge on those who cursed him. He doesn’t count on falling in love with a woman (Jessica De Gouw) who looks like his deceased wife. Others in the cast include Thomas Kretschmann, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Smurfit, Katie McGrath, and Nonso Anozie.

The series debuted on October 25th to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.26 million viewers. This was a very respectable performance for a Friday airing.

Unfortunately, the ratings took a big dive in week two and then again in week three, falling to a 0.9 rating with 2.96 million.

Should Dracula be cancelled?

After seven episodes, Dracula is now averaging a 1.1 in the demo and 3.46 million viewers. Unless the next few episodes see a good-size gain, the averages will keep dropping.

With ratings like these, it would seem unlikely that NBC would want to order a second season. However, the network has partnered with Sky Living on the series, decreasing their costs. Dracula started airing in the UK on Sky Living last Halloween.

It’s also worth noting that NBC renewed Hannibal last spring and that show drew even worse numbers on Thursdays.

So, essentially, Dracula’s fate could go either way. We’ll have to wait and see whether it will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.

But, what do you think? Do you like Dracula? Do you think it should be renewed or cancelled?

I love how people are giving great feedback about this show. and i love how everyone is fed up with teen angst filled vamps. finally a grown up vamp and an actor with actual acting abilities to portray a great character. amazing story lines, even better acting and all round just filled with awesomeness

I’m one of those who watched the first episode and decided that was one too many! I would have watched more episodes, but for the fact that it was so politically correct! This series is supposed to take place in the late 19th century, not 2013!!! It’s bad enough when PC takes place in contemporary series, rather than incorporating it into the 19th century and Dracula!!!

I often feel that vampires may have been overdone but thank goodness for my curiousity because that’s what makes the show so enjoyable, how different this take on the legend is combined with and quality invested into its production.
Of course it could not be so wonderfully animated without amazing performances. …And I cannot in good conscience refer only to the perfectly chosen cast… I can’t help but feel as grateful to those responsible for the direction, writing, art direction, fight coreography, lavish sets, & costumes, lighting, music and more… This must not be an easy project to bring to life so beautifully and successfully. I find it action-filled, mysterious, clever, ever interesting and as stunning as a painting to watch. I hope it is able to convert others so it can be around for a good long run!

I am a big vampire/Dracula fan and am loving this show. I love the twist in the plot between Dracula and Van Helsing and the actors/characters in this show. I hope this series is not canceled and will continue through to the last episode. I know it is to be a mini series 8(, but it would be nice if it stayed around for a longer time period.
For those of you complaining about remaking Dracula, BITE the big one and change the channel!

Absolutely adore every bit of this dreamy fairy tale! Hoping so much that they will review it for season 2.

Gotta take into account viewers from UK and Asia too. Know that this show was made by some of the same people who made Downton Abbey, so you may see better viewership in the UK and in places where people appreciate sophisticated plots which is hardly expected from the US =P
