Deadline has reported that HBO has renewed both Bored to Death and Eastbound & Down for third seasons.
Eastbound & Down stars Danny McBride as a star pitcher whose self-destructive behavior knocks him out of major league baseball. This leaves him broke, delusional and desperate to regain his former glory. The show also features Andrew Daly, John Hawkes, and Katy Mixon.
Season two of the comedy has been airing for five weeks and has been averaging a 0.9 rating in the target 18-49 demographic and 1.41 million viewers. Sunday’s episode registered a 25% increase in the demo number over the previous two episodes.
In Bored to Death, Jason Schwartzman plays a struggling thirty-something Brooklyn writer. He pretends to be a private detective, solving some cases and making other situations even worse. Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis also star.
Paired with Eastbound & Down, the comedy has also been back for five episodes and has averaged a 0.5 rating in the demo and just under a million total viewers. Though that demo number is small, it’s 25% bigger than what Bored to Death got last season. Sunday’s episode also saw a gain of 25% in the demo.
What do you think? Are you glad these shows will be back for a third season? Do you like one more than the other?

GREAT SHOWS cant wait for them to start
i’m down with e&d. plenty of directions for the series to go. even kenny realizes that it’s not all about him (well, some of the time). i like it and i’m a geezer.
I can’t waite for Bored to Death to come back what a wonderfully written show. It’s very witty and Ted Dansons charactor is the best hes does a wonderful job. Eastbound Down & Out not so much I find this show very vulger and distasteful I can honestly say I hope to see go away.
Ah muchos gracias HBO, thank you, I enjoy watching EASTBOUND AND DOWN, and the soundtrack aint that bad at all. The story of Kenny Powers who is about to become a daddy. How will that change him? Stevie his sidekick is married to Maria, who is she inside? Kenny spoke with a character played by Mathew McConaghue to play for a team in Florida. Hmmm…. new venue.
Looking forward to season 3.
The shows are good. I’d like to see them both stick around for a while. I’ve noticed when I talk to friends about the shows they didn’t even know they were on but are more than willing to watch one if I have it on DVR. I think people in my demo (I’ma 29 yr old male) are surrounded by tv and internet and there’s a million things that pull our attention in every direction. I bet you if this was 10 years ago these shows would have a lot more pulling power. They just need to figure out a way to reach their crowd that has just more recently been hit with a cluster bomb of entertainment.
And on a side note what happened to shows having a season longer than a handful of episodes ? I thought seasons where supposed to be 10 to 15 shows long? I’m pretty confused by shows having seasons that don’t even last 2 months…hence the name “season”.
I’m uber excited! I love both those shows & they have had pretty good second seasons
