Eastwick: ABC TV Show Cancelled, No Season Two

Eastwick canceledIt looks like the magic is over for the three ladies of Eastwick. ABC network has decided against ordering any additional episodes of the supernatural series, effectively cancelling it.

Eastwick revolves around three women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) who meet at a wishing fountain and become friends. Soonafter, mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) moves to town and unleashes powers within the ladies. The cast also includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.

The show got off to a slow start on September 23rd with a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The second installment fell to a 2.3 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers. The third week fell again to a 1.8 and 5.14 million.

In the weeks that followed, the ratings didn’t get any better and more frequently got worse. Last week, Eastwick hit an all-time low of 1.5 in the demo and 4.4 million.

ABC has opted to pull the show from the schedule for two weeks. This Wednesday, it’s replaced by the Country Music Awards. Next week, it’s being bumped for an interview special called In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson. Though Eastwick is scheduled to return on Thanksgiving eve with a new episode, the supernatural drama won’t be around for long after that.

TV show supportABC has decided not to order any additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively cancelling the series after 13 episodes. It’s unknown if the last episode will wrap up the ongoing storylines. For now, ABC plans to air all six remaining installments but, if the ratings keep declining, the network could easily pull the series before that happens.

What do you think? Why did Eastwick fail? Do you think ABC will really air all of the 13 episodes?

It should be given a little time for the rest of the story to unfold. I do kinda wonder why shows start off so fast. Like why not let the story revolve around the town of Eastwick for a while. Introduce the characters a little bit slower. There is so much more to the story. It is almost like the writers are in such a hurry to get to the climax of the story that they forget to make us Neeeeeed to know the characters. They just start in the middle and forget to make us WANT to know! I think people want a more intimate relationship with the characters. There’s such a hurry to get to the good stuff that writers forget the good stuff is most often the things that get us to the climax to begin with. I love the show for all it’s potential but I see why it’s struggling. I think if they slow down and give us a real story it can endear us to the characters a bit more. Hey why not go back to the beginning and show us what makes the story of Eastwick so great. Not just the girls!!! There is an entire cast and anything having to do with magic could start and end anywhere. So why the hurry? Sorry but all good climaxes have a great climb, ha ha ha!!!

I love this show! ABC Network must not want GREAT shows on their network. Why keep Dancing with the Stars going and not Eastwick? Sounds like they are pretty dense if you ask me.

I’m sad it is getting canceled. I was just getting into it. With these kind of mystery dramas, you have to give them a chance to pick up steam. I loved the premise and I loved the cast. I am very sad that another great show featuring Lindsay Price (my favorite) is going away.

Please don’t cancel this show. I have 2 children, and a husband, and that is my one hour a week that I look forward to so much. My dad is a television producer. I know good scripting, and I know good acting. This show is great. You would be making a huge mistake by taking this show off the air. If this is done… I and alot of other people will no longer be watching the ABC network at all. I don’t give a crap what is on you channel at what time. But if you all cancel what women, and men, are loving right now, it will just be a huge mistake. Please don’t take away what I look forward to all week. I loved the movie Witches of Eastwick, and I love this show. Please don’t take it away. Please. :(

Eastwick may not be getting the ratings that ABC wants, but if they would give it a chance it might pick up. I have noticed that it has improved as the season goes by.

Wondering Why November 20, 2009 at 2:01 pm

I totally agree with all of you, this is a great show and one of the very few ABC has to offer on a Wednesday night to top it off. This show brought something different and exciting, not to mention MAGIC lol i just love it. Most of the people I talk to about Eastwick wanted to start watching it because they didn’t even know it was on, and as soon as they saw it and liked it, “IT GETS CANCELLED” WHYYYYY!!!!!! Take off some of the useless Reality Shows and LEAVE EASTWICK ON!!!!!!! It will be a great asset but give it time, not just a few weeks and drop it geeesh, If another network does pick it up “which I hope they do” I WILL DEFINATELY TUNE IN TO THE ONE THAT DOES ;-)

it’s a cute, quirky light show, which is perfect for ending the middle of the week…..give it another try…..with the proper promotions, you might be surprised!!

Oh Please! Please! Please! don’t remove the show, I miss it soooooo bad. My husband and I looked forward to watching the show together. When I looked for the show to watch it and it did not come on, I couldn’t beleive it. I beg you, please don’t remove the show, give it a chance. I vote you KEEP THE SHOW! (If you don’t for the love of God – I hope another channel picks it up and it so just let me know I will be watching it where ever it is aired.) My vote is to keep running the show . . . . . . . . on and on and on. I don’t watch much tv, however, I made time for that one. I even recorded the show so I could watch it over and over and not miss a single episode.

I WANT ABC to KEEP Eastwick! It is a fabulous show! I don’t even OWN a teletube and I watch(ed) it religiously! Why, oh why, would they pull something that is catchy, a bit seditious and so quintessentially charming? I mean all the dirt is there that programmers like to shove down our throats – murder, espionage, money (lol) woes and deep, dank, dark secrets (oooooh). And to think I forgot to mention sex, lots and lots of sex! I would watch it even without those five as it satisfies something girl powerery in me I suppose. Plus the characters seem so imperfect…I agree with the guy above – just KEEP IT! Why does everything have to equate into oodles and oodles of money ALL the time.

I miss my early Thursday in the wee hours of solitude watching the online broadcast, waaaaah!!!!!
