It looks like the magic is over for the three ladies of Eastwick. ABC network has decided against ordering any additional episodes of the supernatural series, effectively cancelling it.
Eastwick revolves around three women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) who meet at a wishing fountain and become friends. Soonafter, mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) moves to town and unleashes powers within the ladies. The cast also includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.
The show got off to a slow start on September 23rd with a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The second installment fell to a 2.3 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers. The third week fell again to a 1.8 and 5.14 million.
In the weeks that followed, the ratings didn’t get any better and more frequently got worse. Last week, Eastwick hit an all-time low of 1.5 in the demo and 4.4 million.
ABC has opted to pull the show from the schedule for two weeks. This Wednesday, it’s replaced by the Country Music Awards. Next week, it’s being bumped for an interview special called In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson. Though Eastwick is scheduled to return on Thanksgiving eve with a new episode, the supernatural drama won’t be around for long after that.
ABC has decided not to order any additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively cancelling the series after 13 episodes. It’s unknown if the last episode will wrap up the ongoing storylines. For now, ABC plans to air all six remaining installments but, if the ratings keep declining, the network could easily pull the series before that happens.
What do you think? Why did Eastwick fail? Do you think ABC will really air all of the 13 episodes?

I think this is crazy. Eastwick was a fun and unigue show. I thoroughly enjoyed each week and found my self confused when I heard it was canceled. I am so sick of all of these reality crap shows. What is with the traditional drama hatin’? I believe ABC should take a second look at Eastwick and their advertising efforts. At least try it in a different time slot, i.e. Friday Night. Hey maybe even realize that some people actually like to watch T.V. on Saturday’s. We are not all drunkin fools that parade ourselves around every bar in town. Give me my show back! I am distraught.
I have come to the conclusion that Neilson ratings have nothing to do with what shows make it and what shows do not. The network executives are the ones that decide. They determine which shows will get promoted and have the best time slots and which ones will not, and we all know that promotion and a good time slot is the key to the success of any show. Out of shear frustration I went on the following website to see the persons responsible for my continual disappointment, (http://www.abcmedianet.com/web/bios/display_bios.aspx?bio_type=executives&bio_id=263…. ) Again and again they cancel shows which I enjoyed watching such as Kyle XY and now Eastwick, leaving me with shows that I have no interest in. I am the fool who continually pays for a bunch of shows that I am not excited about, but, I keep doing it in hopes that the following season will bring a show that I enjoy. Lo and behold one appears. So, every week I put on my comfy clothes, make popcorn and wait in anticipation for the show to begin. The odds are stacked against me … 52 weeks in a year – 20 weeks summer hiatus – 4 weeks christmas holidays – 12 weeks of repeats – 6 weeks of preempted programming = 10 weeks of actual shows, is it going to be a new one, a repeat or is it even going to be on? Yes! its a new one, for one hour I watch with enjoyment and then its back to reality until the following week when I continue my ritual. Am I the only fool out there that relys on these executives who are being paid from my monthly contribution to the network to GET IT RIGHT!
My husband and I really enjoyed the show, we looked forward to it every week, why is it that they always cancel the shows that are entertaing and fun to watch, I get so tired of shows that are always depicting murder, rape and sexual abuse, there is enough of that in the real world without having it for entertainment also!!! at least this was a little bit of
fantasy and it was entertaing to watch!!!
Please Please!!!! Don’t cancel this show. It’s one show that I love and I find interesting. I can’t even find it on the web and watch the episodes that I missed. Maybe it should be on at a earlier time. People go to bed early. This show was very entertaining so who cares about the ratings what about all the people who love it?
Every time I begin watching a new series and get interested in it, they cancel it – BAM. Why do we continue to watch? This is why I stick to mainly cable network shows these days, since I HATE the plague of “reality” junk that assaults my senses every time I turn on the TV (and the endless crime/hospital dramas). I think so many people have turned off their TV’s that only silly kids who like “reality tv” are still watching…is this why they only put out that type of show these days? It’s too bad. I was also stoked that there was going to be another female-character-driven show on now that Sex & The City and Lipstick Jungle are finished. Poor Lindsay Price and Sara Rue – maybe soon they’ll both find a show to be in that sticks around long enough to really find its audience (Yes, we DO exist!). I won’t even ask that you keep this show on, it’s useless – I was one of the many that begged for Pushing Daisies to remain on TV. The execs don’t care. Like we need more Kardashian-esqe “programming” instead. Please.
I agree with everyone. I am so sick of reality. Life is hard and live it everyday. I like to escape into a make believe world. I hadn’t really even heard of Eastwick with the Baseball series going on but then my daughter was called for a background and of course I went back to watch all the episodes. The show is great, new story line, comical. They really should push it a little more and give the show a chance. I think it will hold its own against Bones and House. It really seams the only thing left on ABC is the day time soap and Medical drama. We need more magic.
This show is really, really good. I do hope that ABC changes its mind. I’m sure if it weren’t on so late it would have better ratings!
DO NOT CANCELL THE SHOW HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT PEOPLE LIKE I KNOW
THE RATINGS TELL YOU BUT SOMETIMES THIS SHOW FALLS UNDER THE
SAME SHOW WE WANT TO WATCH. SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE GIVEN
THE SHOW SOME MORE AIR TIME.
Its very insane!!! EVERYTIME a show comes on that has something new to offer and is actually INTERESTING, they cancel it for more sex/drugs/killing or sweaty disgusting people on islands playing stupid homemade games for necklaces of plastic tiger teeth!!!! I am so sick of it. This is the FIRST new show I have even begun to watch in three years and LOW and BEHOLD, its getting cancelled. The exact reason I stopped watching TV to begin with. Just disgusts me!!!!
I so agree with all the above comments. Good points made by everyone!
Regretfully I agree with “I won
I love the show personally, and I think it failed because of poor advertising. I saw maybe 3 commercials for it before the premier and all through the series. It’s a great show with a good story, there’s no reason to cancel it. Maybe they should start blasting the show on the internet. Is MTV associated with ABC? Because any commercial on MTV is definitely watched.
Let’s try this comment again, figures.
I agree with all the comments above. Very good points in all. Unfortunately I also agree with Whitney’s comment “I won’t even ask that you keep this show on, it’s useless”. Here is my ridiculous opinion. Since I am NOT 1) a man in a lazyboy, in charge of flicking the remote control every 3 seconds. 2) interested in watching multitudes of law and order everything, csi everywhere, the entire sports spectrum, or drawn out medical shows – then the execs must think I am witless in that I will accept 1) reality shows that go on too long. 2) dance shows with too much yadda yadda yadda. 3) “family” shows that have indeed ceased to amaze me. I am woman hear me roar! I pay the tv bill! I work long days be it in the office, factory, home or on the road! I want intelligent, funny, interesting, fantasy or not shows that will keep my attention. I too (like Lea) have almost given up tv as a tired thing of the past. Every half decent show that has been driven by strong women characters in the last 10 years has been dropped. Usually after they have moved them around from week to week so we couldn’t find them. Or dropped completely before we had a chance to even fit them into our busy schedules. The networks have totally dropped the ball as well as MILLIONS of women viewers. Shame on them!!! And that is my ridiculous opinion!
i hope another website picks it up i really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really loved it it wasnt just any show it was the show ill never forget and im sad that they are canceling it just for that i feel like never seeing abc for that that was my fave show ill still watch it but im going to wish that another network picks it up because that would be the smart thing to do alot of people watch it so if someone picks it up that person is very smart. and abc is doing the wrong thing because that was the best show that they made an i hope all the eastwick people know ,that was the best show they ever made and the best one i ever saw i didnt like it i loved it i hope they pick it up because every single episode i saw never let me down and if know one picks it up i hope they still make it and it will go stright to dvd every singel wendsday when i got i didnt want to go know where but if i did the day would go faster and then i get to see eastwick ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhh it gets me so mad i cant belive they would take out the show we all loved so i hope they keep the show i bet u if they were us they wouldnt want their show to get canceled so that means they should keep it and make alot of people happy so i say keep it or let another network keep it so some network or abc please do the right thing not the wrong thing make alot of people happy
