Eureka: Syfy TV Show Renewed for Season Five

EurekaA staple of cable TV for the past four seasons, Syfy has officially renewed Eureka for a fifth year.

The TV show revolves around a top-secret community that’s home to the nation’s most brilliant scientists (and their families) so they can be free to work on new inventions. The cast has included Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson, Joe Morton, Jordan Hinson, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Ed Quinn, Chris Gauthier, Debrah Farentino, Matt Frewer, and Niall Matter.

Here’s the official press releases about the renewal…

NEW YORK, NY – August 17, 2010 – Syfy is greenlighting its hit original dramedy Eureka for a 5th season, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions, which produces the series.

Eureka seems like any other cozy, Pacific Northwest town, but is actually a secret community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. What they’ve unwittingly created is a place where anything imaginable can happen… and does. Eureka stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Niall Matter, James Callis and features Jordon Hinson. Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Bruce Miller are Executive Producers.

Since Eureka’s 4th season premiere on July 9, 2010, and with the most recent Live +7 data factored in, the show is averaging a 2.2 HH rating and more than 3 million total viewers per week (1,335 million Adults 18-49 and 1,531 million Adults 25-54).

In addition to great ratings, Eureka has also achieved new creative heights including: a time-altering storyline that has reset the series raising both the drama and stakes for the main characters; the addition of James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as the new character ‘Dr. Charles Grant'; a first-ever crossover episode with Syfy’s Warehouse 13, a top-notch lineup of special guest stars including Ming-Na, Jaime Ray Newman, Ed Quinn, Wil Wheaton, Jamie Kennedy, Chris Parnell, Matt Frewer and Felicia Day; and a recently announced holiday episode slated to air in December.

“Eureka remains a steadfast performer for Syfy with its superb cast and perfect blend of drama, comedy and eye candy,” said Stern. “Given what Jaime, Bruce and their entire team have done collectively to reinvent the show this year, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for season 5.”

Eureka airs Friday nights at 9:00PM ET/PT on Syfy.

thank you guys for not cancelling this series. As a long time sci fi veiwer, from the 60s, this is really the first series I have enjoyed except for the Star Trek on going series. It has laughter, tears, humor, sadness, anger, far out wierdness that all combines to make the show work. It does even have romance and this seems to work, as long as you don’t get to soap opera type shows. Keep the romance between the sheriff and the doctor and some of the others can have on again off again romances but you need to have at least one couple that is always there for each other.

I am a new fan of Eureka, so during the off season I’m catching up. And I am so glad it’s coming back for a 5th season. Let’s keep it going for many more seasons. I am also happy about Carter and Allison’s relationship. FINALLY…..

I love this show and hope it stays, but I also loved a dozen other shows on the the SciFi channel that are now canceled. I am really getting tiered of getting hooked on a show just to have the carpet yanked out from under it. Maybe the rating of some of the shows are low because people are waiting to see if a show it going to stick around before they get into it so that they won’t be left hanging as a show gets canceled. If SyFy does cancel a show the least they could do is order a few episodes made to wrap up most of the lose ends like was done on Farscape Peace Keeper Wars.
