Find My Family: Mixed Premiere Ratings; Cancel or Keep It?

Find My FamilyABC quietly unveiled a new reality series on Tuesday night. Like the network’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series, Find My Family had audience members reaching for the tissues by the box. But, more importantly for the show’s future, how did it do in the ratings?

Hosted by Tim Green and Lisa Joyner, Find My Family helps people reconnect with family members after being separated for many years. The emotional reunions take place on-camera and in front of a place known as the “Family Tree.”

Following the performance finale of Dancing with the Stars, the premiere of Family attracted 12.76 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers look okay on their own but its significant that the series lost about 40% of its lead-in audience. ABC can’t be happy about that.

The real test will be next Monday’s broadcast though. Family won’t have the powerful Dancing lead-in and will expand to one hour.

What do you think? Is Find My Family worth watching or should ABC cut this series short? Cancel or keep it?

I really loved watching this program and looked forward to seeing it. I always liked The Locator which was a lot like this one but that program is gone, too. I’m sorry to see these shows go. I would have thought many people would be interested in seeing programs like this. Please consider bringing it back.

After reading all the comments from people on cancelling or keeping Find my Family. I think that 9 out of 10 people including myself would like to see more families reunited and the show continued. This is a very special show & shame on ABC for taking it off. Their are an alful lot of children & adults that would love to know about their back ground, including medical history. Maybe another network will pick it up and start showing the program. I myself had to give up my daughter when she was only two days old. I was un-married and 18 years old. My parents wouldn’t let me bring her home.

We enjoyed the show “Find My Family” and looked forward to seeing it every week. It was a disappointment when we could no longer find it in the weekly listings. “Find My Family” was a clean, wholesome program. It held your interest and at times brought a few tears but also happiness for all those involved. We are sure it brought hope to those who are searching for their birth family. Hoping you reconsider and that it will return in the near future.

I am a budding genealogist and I find the show to be helpful in knowing that you just have to keep digging for information and sometimes you have to look outside yourself. This show has a wonderful purpose – reuniting families, and it is clean and wholesome. What is not good about that? I really would like to see this show continue very much!!
