Find My Family: Mixed Premiere Ratings; Cancel or Keep It?

Find My FamilyABC quietly unveiled a new reality series on Tuesday night. Like the network’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series, Find My Family had audience members reaching for the tissues by the box. But, more importantly for the show’s future, how did it do in the ratings?

Hosted by Tim Green and Lisa Joyner, Find My Family helps people reconnect with family members after being separated for many years. The emotional reunions take place on-camera and in front of a place known as the “Family Tree.”

Following the performance finale of Dancing with the Stars, the premiere of Family attracted 12.76 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers look okay on their own but its significant that the series lost about 40% of its lead-in audience. ABC can’t be happy about that.

The real test will be next Monday’s broadcast though. Family won’t have the powerful Dancing lead-in and will expand to one hour.

What do you think? Is Find My Family worth watching or should ABC cut this series short? Cancel or keep it?

I was almost on the show. The night before my interview, I received a call and was told that my interview was postponed. That was Agust 31st 2009. I had some contact with the ABC representative shortly after that. But none since September. I have tried to email my contact person and the emails keep being returned. My heart is broken. I was excited that I was going to meet a family member that I didn’t know existed. I’m supposed to have surgery and am afraid to schedule it because I don’t want to jepordize the possibility of meeting my family member. As for the show being a fraud, not in my case. I have never met my family member. ABC has a very strong contract about that. If I try to contact my family member, they could sue me for a million dollars. I just wish somebody from ABC would contact me.

The Bachelor is a poor replacement for Find My Family. Please return Find My Family to KLAX TV 31.

I am very disappointed that abc has chosen to eliminate “Find My Family,” a sensitive, researched reconnection of willing birth family members, only to replace its time space with a shallow quasi-reality dating game melodrama, “The Bachelor.” Shame on you for not even giving viewers a heads up that “Find My Family” was potentially just a temporary weekly program. Before you suddenly withdrew its listing on your website you for quite some time clearly stated it would be returning shortly. Misleading! False advertising! Bring back “Find My Family.”

Tried to find out where the show went, but it isn’t even found on ABC’s site. Very sad they took it off. I hate that fake show The Bachelor.

Even though I’m not adopted, I have several friends that are. I am helping one right now, after 41 years, try to find his biological family. I loved this show and it brought hope to everyone, adopted or not. Please bring it back. This type of reality show is worth watching.
