A staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule, ratings for Ghost Whisperer have dropped quite a bit over the season. Last week, the network surprised many viewers by cancelling the TV show after five seasons. The blow was softened when it was learned that the series might get a second chance on ABC. The alphabet network has now apparently passed.
Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ghost Whisperer began in September 2005 and ran for 107 episodes. The series’ regular cast has also included David Conrad, Christoph Sanders, Jamie Kennedy, Camryn Manheim, Aisha Tyler, and Jay Mohr.
Things had been looking positive for the series to continue and some outlets actually had even reported that the show had been picked up. Unfortunately, the deal didn’t work out.
We may never know the details but Ghost Whisperer executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander issued a statement that said, “After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future.”
While it looks like Heroes and Law & Order will get some closure, there’s been no word on any plans to go back into production and wrap up Ghost Whisperer.
What do you think? Sad to see it go? How would you have ended Melinda’s story?

i love this show everyone in my family watched it…it helped me get closure on the loved one i had pass away then you went and cancelled it now its harder to deal with it..it should go back on the air..
I think the ending should show the boy grown up and remembering Melinda and Jim. The surprise ending could be that it is his sister interviewing him.
I am very disappointed that the show was cancel. I am a loyal fan of the show, and I would at least like to have a ending to the show. The producer owe us loyal fans that much. What was the book really about, did she ever get her much wanted baby, there is a lot of question we want to have answered. Come on give us an ending.
I can’t belive that ABC would cancel the best show ever made! This show has opened the minds of so many and more and more people are wanting to follow Melinda’s story. If the rating are going down than perhaps ABC should increase advertising on the showing times. I never could watch season 5 when it played because of the time it played at. That’s not fair to Melinda’s fan to not even get closure after so many years when its to replace it with stupid shows like “Dating in the Dark”
Please bring back ghost whisperer it and medium are 2 shows that I really look forward to watching every week. In fact there are only a few shows I watch on CBS . I faithfully watched Ghost Whisperer and Medium and will be extremely disapointed if it doesn’t return for a 6th season. At the Very least you could bring it back to end the show on a good note and give us some closure instead of leaving us hanging!!!!!!!!! Please give this situation very careful consideration ! We would rather watch Ghost Whisperer that another stupid reality tv show! Very Unhappily Yours, T.C
I cant believe its being cancelled, coming from the UK I’ve only just started getting really into it. Why is it American shows never seem to be aired for long? in the UK we have shows that have run for 27 years!!!
Its very upsetting, Ghost whispherer is a show that lots of people can relate to, as most of us have experienced the passing of loved ones.
I love this show always have. I was very disappointed that they cancelled it. I would love it if at the very least they would give us a 2 hour series finale, and wrap up the lose ends and the series that has been on for the last 5 years. I would just like to say that it sucks to end the show like this.
I can’t believe the show is over. I love this show so much. I watched all of the episodes and for them to leave it without a good ending is very disappointing. There is a lot of unanswered questions from the show. Especially about the Book and I would love to see what the book is really about. They should at least have a great ending with Melinda’s boy grown up. I am very disappointed. Couldn’t believe the show was actually canceled. That really blows…I am such a loyal viewer. We deserve a good ending. Thats all I’m asking for.
I am very sad that the show is ended I looked forward to it every week. The least you could do is tell us more about the book her brother her father and the connection with the son….and give us closure.
This is as heartbreaking as when “Touched By An Angel” was cancelled. Our whole family from 8 years old up to 39 years old watched this on Friday, most of the time because we had to TIVO (recorded) it and watch it later but it didn’t matter what time we got home we watched it. I sure hope that when you TIVO something it show up on that rating chart too. I just can’t see people not watching it anymore I have friends who are watching it on other station except it is like in season 3 I think. VERY SAD!!!!
