What’s This TV Show About?
Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, GLOW stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Jackie Tohn, Britney Young, Kia Stevens, Gayle Rankin, Sunita Mani, Marianna Palka, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson, Kate Nash, Britt Baron, Marc Maron, Chris Lowell, Rich Sommer, and Bashir Salahuddin. A fictional comedy, the GLOW TV show is inspired by the 1980s all-female professional wrestling league and the syndicated G.L.O.W.: Gorgeous Ladies of Wresting TV series. It follows a group of L.A. women at the center of a low-rated cable wrestling series. Kicking off in 1985 Los Angeles, with everything, “from Jane Fonda-esque leotards to big hair and a synth-heavy soundtrack,” GLOW celebrates the age of excess prevalent in mid-‘80s fashion and culture.
Because Nielsen doesn’t track streaming platform ratings, it is hard to gauge the performance of TV shows like GLOW, unless Netflix decides to publicize its success. Flying blind, I suspect I should seek my supper elsewhere though, because Netflix tends to give its original TV series a couple of seasons to prove themselves. Right now, my guess is that Netflix will give GLOW a season two renewal. However, I reserve the right to change my mind, should it generate bad buzz. In the meantime, I’ll update this page with new developments. Subscribe for free updates on any GLOW cancellation and renewal news.
