Golden Boy: Cancel or Renew for Season Two?

Golden Boy cancel or renew?CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.

The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.

Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?

Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.

Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.

But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?

Our entire family loves Golden Boy. It is multi faceted especially the dynamic between Det Clark and his partner. Please renew it, give it another season to attract viewers.

Again these networks refuse to let a show catch on. Give it a chance for another year. Its a very good show and people need to be able to catch it from the beginning. Show it in the summer and follow with another season. I think it will be successful.

CBS, and all these networks, need to stop being so ignorant and outdated, continually following the old rules of tv. Take a hint from cable, stop trying to compete with these established shows and the reality and live performance shows, and air these new shows in the spring and summer until they pick up a following. They will never get consistent viewership without buzz and buzz won’t happen until there is a following, it’s just plain stupid. Especially when they’re trying to reach a younger audience, people still watch tv in the summer, as anyone can see from breaking bads success

I really enjoy this show because even though it is another cop drama, it is a completely different way of looking at it. I would really like to see what happens to him in the next six years that he gets to rise to be commissioner, and the illuding in the future flashes that happens to certain characters in the show. PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW!!!!!!

CBS needs to keep showing Golden Boy!!
The cast is great (kudos to Chi), the plot is interesting, and we’re rooting for Clark despite his very human traits.

Not renew this excellent show CBS ? Ridiculous ! The 18-40 demographic is NOT the only measure….how about quality ? If you want to attract more younger viewers drop one of your inane comedies and run Here Comes Honey Boo Boo or some other knuckle draggers favorite.

I really enjoy Golden Boy, it is one of a handfull of really good shows you have, and CBS has the best. Theo, Chi and the rest of the cast are very real and interesting and I hope you renew it. Please no more of the horror shows with pretty faces that all of a deteroriate or turn green, silver and blue) and as far as the reality shows, forget it. We , your viewers are reality, people working, looking for work, taking classes or whatever all require sleep and getting up early and we cannot go out every night that is where a good TV show comes in and it is Golden Boy, really hope you do not let this go.
I don’t get this age thing, if you like TV you watch it.

It’s sad when a smart show like this one, with great acting and interesting characters is not given the chance it deserves. Even Seinfeld didn’t have a great following at first. Please don’t cancel this show. Some of us want something more interesting to watch than Duck Dynasty.
