Hawaii Five-0: Ratings Keep Falling, Beaten by Castle

Hawaii Five-0A couple weeks ago, we reported that the ratings for the new Hawaii Five-0 were not as good as the network would like you to believe. It may have started off as the season’s most popular new show but that’s not no longer the case.

Hawaii Five-0 got off to a strong start with a 3.9 in the 18-49 demographic and 14.2 million total viewers. In week two, they dropped 8% (not bad) and in week three they fell another 3% (still not bad).

For the fourth episode, the ratings dropped an alarming 11% to a 3.1 rating and 10.7 million viewers. We heard from several readers that all shows were down that night. Not so. ABC’s Castle was actually up by 4%. Still, if Hawaii Five-0’s steep decline was indeed an anomaly than you’d expect the numbers to bounce back the following week.

They didn’t. The numbers fell another 6.5% to a 2.9 in the demo and 10.94 million viewers. This week, they fell yet again — for the fifth week in a row — to a 2.8 rating and 10.23 million viewers. It’s only a 3.5% drop but, for the first time, Hawaii Five-0 was beaten by Castle. The ABC show’s its biggest competitor in the timeslot while NBC’s Chase is always a distant third. This week, Castle brought in a 2.9 rating and 11.32 million.

Hawaii Five-0 is still not in immediate danger of being cancelled. As expected, the network recently gave it a full season and ordered nine more episodes. The lower the ratings fall however, the less likely it is to be renewed for a second season. One has to wonder when the ratings will finally stop falling or maybe even start going back up.

What do you think? How low will the ratings fall? Are you still watching?

The show shouldnt be called Hawaii Five O but Korean Five O. Are there no Hawaiin, Chinese or Japanese actors left in Hollywood? Casting of the show is horrendous. Ok so, I understand if they want to have a sexy female actor but why get one that looks like a Tomboy and who appears to have a **** in her shorts.

The plot lines are also ridiculous. I suppose the same viewers who were clinging onto Heroe’s final season are the same ones who are now watching this show.

Please cancel this series, if not, scrub all the actors and story line and just have one hours worth of scenic backdrop instead.

I think u should try it on a different night or time. Its a good show I watch it every Monday when it on, I record Castle so when nothing on I watch him. You need to give it chance. Most people watch Castle to see if he & Beckett ever will get together, I know I do. Its the only good cop story out besides Blue Blood. Thanks

I didn’t watch the original so I had no real emotional connection or expectations for this show. Sadly, it still managed to underwhelm me. As others have said, Scott Caan can’t carry the whole show, particularly in light of the terrible writing. The plots or boring and unbelievable. That’s a deadly combination. I would guess that this show might limp through the end of this season and then it will be mercifully put to rest.

Now Castle, on the other hand, is a lovely show. Just the right touch of humour. Keep it coming!

Castle is more unbelievable than Hawaii Five-O. Castle’s the show that should be cancelled.

Lol I’m not one of those chicks who watches bc alex reminds me of “Mcdreamy”. There are some things about the show I’m not crazy about, but I do like the show. People have high expectations bc of the original. Stop comparing them. Of course the new version isn’t going to be like the original. Its nice break from shows like csi. There’s too many crime shows that are redundant. I like the twist of this show. Its different. I also think the ratings drop is bc its on a monday and what’s monday? Football! And what just happened this past monday? Two national televised football games.I hope it stays, I really do like it. Its a nice twist.

I love the show and look forward to it every week. It’s the best of that type on tv and I hope it doesn’t get cancelled

Please… put this turkey out of its misery ASAP, immediately if not sooner… it’s a disgrace to the spirits of the original cast, they had way more class and would never torture their suspects, no matter how loathsome they were… has Bush-style politics even crept into our television shows?

The only viewers who like this are a few chicks who think nAlex O’Loughlin reminds them of — urp — “Dr. McDreamy”.

it’s the networks whose ratings are dropping having you heard. Who wants to watch network television anymore these days. Any good show will always be canceled because they’re playing television for the obsessed teenager.
I can’t wait for network television to disappear completely.
From what I can see it’s an excellently written script with fantastic actors in a beautiful locale. Clearly a talk show if there ever was one. But ask your teenage daughter issues watching or ask your son who is high on drugs. They’re probably watching something else. Network television is terrible they should be canceled

Cancel it and put a show in that slot with talent that can actually act…only Scott Caan has any talent and he can’t hold up the entire show…..plus the writing is terrible.

I stopped watching or rather dvring after the third episode. It is so ridiculous and unrealistic. They hang a guy off a building. They get in an elevator with a family with their guns blazing. They throw someone in a shark tank. Let’s not event talk about the stupid bantering betweren McGarett and Danno. I watch Castle every week and think that’s the best show on Monday nights. The majority of the viewers seem to agree.

I think it will keep dropping and never pick up and hopefully not be back next season.

Hawaii Five-O is the only prime time show I watch regularly. I love this show!!! CBS would be foolish to cancel it. If they do, I will never watch CBS again!!!!
